1. The Parkland League WILL NOT be using the dropped 3rd strike rule for ANY of the 10-u divisions! There has been lots of confusion and miscommunication within the league.  It may or may not be updated in their rules but make sure to clarify in pregame.

 

2. Update from clinic April 12: There was some discussion about a ruling when the batted ball deflects off the pitchers glove or body and then hits a runner before it passes a fielder. After some research and clarification, the runner is NOT out unless they INTENTIONALLY make contact with the ball. ASA Rule 8-7-J-4 (page 103)

 

This is also addressed in Rule 8-8-F:  The runner is not out when hit by a fair batted ball after it touches and fielder INCLUDING THE PITCHER and the runner could not avoid contact with the ball.

 

It is also a NFHS (high school) rule 8-8-6 and is also 2015 NFHS test question #5

 

HOWEVER...if the ball deflects off the pitcher and then the runner runs into the fielder trying to make the play then the runner is out for interference.
