With the game tied 1 to 1 in the third inning, Naamans offense exploded for 8 runs on 7 hits. Patrick King’s pinch hit 3 run homer and Tyler Signora’s 2 run single were the big blows in the inning. Signora and Sam Mattern each had 3 hits. Mattern’s long home run in the 2nd got the scoring started. Michael Schell had 2 hits including a home run. Max Carney, Drew Bechtold, Jon Harris, Jason Durnan and Jimmy Pierce also had hits. On defense, Shayne Linkhorst gunned down a runner at third base from center field to kill a rally and shortstop Michael Schell made a great, back to the infield, diving catch on a ball to short left center field. Catcher Drew Bechtold continued his sensational play behind the plate. Naamans moves on to the Delaware State Tournament at Lewes little League.
Naamans 10 District I (MOT) 5

Naamans scored three times in the first inning capped by Michael Schell’s two run homer. In the second, Naamans scored two more on a Max Carney hit with the bases loaded. A five run fourth inning was highlighted by RBI hits by Carney, Drew Bechtold and Schell. Sarbaugh, Tyler Signora and Jimmy Pierce also had hits for Naamans.
Naamans 13 District III (Georgetown) 2

Other hits were contributed by Sean Sarbaugh, Michael Schell, Tyler Signora, Patrick King, Jonathan Harris and Sean Deely. Defensively, shortstop Jason Durnan and third baseman Tyler Signora handled seven infield ground balls between them flawlessly. Highlights from the 10 run fifth inning included a double and triple with the bases loaded by Carney and a pinch hit RBI single by King. With the win, Naamans advances to the championship game on Thursday 7/24/08 at 7:00pm. They await the winner of Wednesday’s game between Georgetown and MOT.
District I (MOT) 7 Naamans 0
Naamans run scoring machine was brought to a halt by MOT’s pitcher who held the offense to no runs on three hits. The three hits came from Sean Sarbaugh, Drew Bechtold and Jason Durnan.
District I (MOT) 9 Naamans 6
Naamans attempt to capture the Delaware State Title fell short with a second straight loss to MOT at Lewes Little League. Unlike the first championship game played the day before, this game was a classic. From the start, both teams battled for the title as if their lives depended on it. This was a heavyweight bout with two champions going toe to toe in the middle of the ring. In the first, Naamans scored one run on a leadoff walk to Sean Sarbaugh and an RBI hit by Max Carney. MOT fought back in the second inning with three runs. But Naamans countered with two more to tie the score at 3 – 3. Shayne Linkhorst got it going with a hit and was driven in by a Sean Sarbaugh double. Mighty Max Carney delivered another RBI single to score Sarbaugh. Both teams traded scoreless innings in the third, but MOT went ahead in the top of the fourth with one run on two hits. In the bottom of the fourth, Naamans took advantage of some MOT wildness on the mound and in the field to scratch out three more runs. With one out and the bases loaded on walks, one run scored on a throwing error by the pitcher. The second scored on a sacrifice fly ball to right field by Drew Bechtold. The throw to the plate was wild allowing the third run to score. End of the fourth Naamans 6 MOT 4. In the fifth, MOT cut the lead in half with a solo homer. But also in the inning, Jimmy Pierce turned in one of several “web gems” for Naamans with a leaping grab of a drive to left field that could have left the yard. Naamans in their half of the inning got the first two batters on with hits by Patrick King and Sam Mattern, but could not score due to some nice defense by MOT, including an inning ending double play. At the end of the fifth, Naamans 6 MOT 5. In the top of the sixth, after an absolutely amazingly spectacular, had to see it to believe it, diving catch by center fielder Shayne Linkhorst on the dead run, Naamans was two outs from Bristol. But this is where MOT delivered the knockout blow. They took the lead on a two run homer and a key two out hit to drive in two more runs. The inning ends with another great defensive play, this time by third baseman Tyler Signora diving to his left. But the damage was done. Naamans manages to get one man on base but cannot score in the bottom the of the sixth. MOT claims their second state championship in a row. Best of luck to them in Bristol.
At this point, it must be mentioned that the level of sportsmanship, enthusiasm and intensity by the Naamans players, was at an all time high from the first out to the last. They played their hearts out and once again showed why they have collected four District II titles as 8 yr olds, 9 yr olds, 10 yr olds and this year’s 11/12 yr olds.
