The second annual Blue Chip Collegiate Baseball League All-Star Game held at Mitchel Field saw a little bit of everything. Good pitching, defense, and timely hitting resulted in a 4-3 American Division victory.
The National Division struck first scoring a run in the top of the first. Matt Tesoriero (Cardinals, Catholic University) led off the game by getting hit by a pitch and stole second base. He eventually scored on a one out single by Joe Pellegrino (Titans-Gold, Adelphi University). Robert Bradley (Nine, SUNY Ulster) and Kyle Allen (Titans-Gold, University of New Haven) kept the American Division scoreless through the first two innings. The American Division eventually tied the score in the bottom of the third. Elvis Zavala (Diamond Birds, Dominican College) led off the inning with a triple. Zavala scored on a one out sacrifice fly by Nick Roselli (Titans-Blue, SUNY Binghamton).
The National Division regained the lead in the top of the fourth inning. Joseph Pellegrino doubled with one out and scored on a single by Justin Henry (Nine, Cabrini University). In the sixth, the National Division plated another run adding to their 2-1lead. Nick Siano (Cardinals, Adelphi University) and Justin Kimmel (Cardinals, Muhlenburg College) hit back to back singles with two outs. Joseph Pellegrino reached on a walk to load the bases and JR McCloskey (Diamond Spikes, Gettysburg College) drew a walk scoring Siano. Brayden Martino (Nine, Hofstra University), Cameron Heuer (Titans-Gold, RPI), and Michael Garcia (Nine, Ohio Valley University) combined to throw a scoreless 4th, 5th, and 6th inning for the National Division.
The American Division began its comeback in the bottom of the seventh inning trailing 3-1. Matthew Filip (Thunder, Queens College) reached first on an error leading off the inning. After a strike out, Hunter Goldstein (Nor’easters, UMass-Boston) drew a walk. Luke Schartner (Titans-Blue, SUNY Cortland) followed with a one out single loading the bases. After a sharp line out to left field, Andrew Schlomm (Diamond Birds, Emory University) singled scoring Filip from third cutting the National Division lead down to one. In the bottom of the eighth, Matthew DeStefano (Titans-Blue, Stony Brook University) doubled with one out. Robert Figuereo (Diamond Birds, Queensborough CC) followed with a single advancing DeStefano to third. DeStefano would eventually score tying the game at 3 on Matthew Filip’s sacrifice fly. With two outs and Figuereo on third, Dylan Lebron (Nor’easters, Mercy College) singled to give the American Division a 4-3 lead. Nick Carita (Astros, Manhattanville College) came on in the ninth for the American Division to pick up the save. Paul Dibella (Diamond Birds, Queensborough CC) hurled a scoreless seventh and eighth inning to pick up the win for the American Division.
The All-Star Game concluded after nine innings with a 4-3 American Division victory. The BCCBL would like to congratulate all the players in this year’s All-Star Game.
