The third annual Blue Chip Collegiate Baseball League All-Star Game held at Mitchel Field saw a little bit of everything.  Good pitching, defense, and timely hitting resulted in a 2-1 American Division victory.

The game started with Alex Chang (Astros, Trinity College) tossing two shutout innings for the American Division.  Chang finished the regular season tied with the League lead for ERA at .78.  He retired all six batters he faced recording a strikeout.  Neftali Parache (Nor’easters, Nicholas State U) started the game for the National Division.  The League leader in strikeouts (72) retired the side in order in the bottom of the first recording two strikeouts.  In the bottom of the second inning, the American Division would score the game’s first run off of Parache.  Sean McAdams (Seminoles, Mercy College) led off the inning with a double and advanced to third on a ground out to first hit by Andrew Park (Seminoles, Trinity College).  McAdams would then score on Bayram Hot’s (Titans-Blue, Marist College) ground out to short giving the American Division a 1-0 lead.  Parache struck out the next batter to end the inning.

The National Division would send six batters to the plate in the top of the third against the American Division pitcher Mike Losak (Seminoles, SUNY Oneonta) to tie the game at one.  Luke Schartner (Dodger Nation, SUNY Cortland) would lead off with a walk.  After a strikeout, Brad Sakellarides (Strong, SUNY Farmingdale) would also reach base with a walk.  With runners on first and second, Liam Daly (Arsenal, SUNY Purchase) singled scoring Schartner.  Losak would bounce back striking out the next batter and getting the final out of the inning on a fly out to short.

As the sun set and the lights turned on, pitching dominated the game.  From the top of the fourth inning on, Michael Gatti (Next Level, U of New Haven), Danny Macchiarola (Next Level, Col of Holy Cross), Jacob Galaz (Titans-Blue, STAC), Carlos Martinez (Steel, Hofstra U), Zachary Dezinski (Steel, Sacred Heart U), and Steven Hardiman (Next Level, Bentley U) of the American Division combined to keep the National scoreless for the final 6 frames.  The six pitchers combined to strike out 10 National batters allowing no hits while walking one batter.

From the bottom of innings three to seven, Jack Lang (Nor’easters, Keene State Col), Andrew Alameda (17 Sports, STAC), and Timmy Mott (17 Sports, Molloy College) of the National Division kept the game close by keeping the American scoreless through the final 5 innings.  The three National pitchers struck out four while allowing 2 hits.  The two hits were singles off the bats of Albert Ramos (Steel, Adelphi U) and Mike Scordo (Astros, U of West Florida).

The American Division would take the lead in the bottom of the eighth inning off of National pitcher Jason Schwartz (Titans-Gold, Molloy College).  Andrew Park would lead off the inning with a single.  Luca Goldflam (Titans-Blue, Williams College) would then double advancing Park to third.  Mike Frazzeta (Storm, SUNY Maritime) would load the bases reaching on a walk.  After a strikeout, Nick Gnardellis (Beast-Black, Delaware State U) singled driving in Park.  Schwartz would retire the next two batters on a fly out to second and a strikeout.

The All-Star Game concluded after nine innings with a 2-1 American Division victory.  The BCCBL would like to congratulate all the players in this year’s All - Star Game.
