(Dingmann and Wiener each hit home runs on Sunday!)
SPRING HILL--Kenny Chesney famously stated, "Keg in the closet, pizza on the floor!" Derek Wiener once said, "I like Coke!'' Either way, the Saints and Wiener kept up their end of the bargain with a 6-4 victory Sunday afternoon over Spring Hill. Wiener delivered the decisive blow once again to secure the Keg traveling trophy and give the Saints the #1 seed as they enter Region 15C play for the club's 23rd time dating back to their first Region contest in 1988. With the score tied at 4 entering the 9th inning, Blaine Fischer led off the inning with a hit and then two batters later, Nuke smashed a two run home run to give the Saints the lead and the comeback kids held on for their 12th straight victory. The win also captured the franchise's 13th SCL North playoff championship including 3 playoff titles in the last 3 years. Ashton Dingmann clubbed a solo home run to start the comeback and Dingmann ended up with the pitching victory as well throwing 4 innings of relief and striking out 3. Payton VanBeck started on the mound and struck out 8 over 5 innings pitched. Blaine Fischer, Gavin Kampsen, and Luke Illies all collected 2 hits for the boys in blue who tallied 9 hits as a team. The game entered yet another memorable chapter into the historic rivalry that has been played 56 times in total since 2007. The Saints have won 7 of the last 10 games vs. the Chargers including 12 of the 21 total playoff games. The Saints will open Region 15C play Friday night in Watkins at 6 p.m. when they face Pearl Lake. Elrosa drafted Brett Engelmeyer from Greenwald to bolster their pitching staff.
