 Program Descriptions

• In-town Junior YBA
• 1st and 2nd Grade Program: This is a clinic based program that we run on Saturday Afternoons at Kennedy Middle School.  We generally have three courts at the scheduled time.  The program will most likely begin on December 4th. Our goal is to give your child 9-10 sessions. These sessions are very much an introduction to the game of basketball with a focus on teaching the fundamentals of the game. It is for all abilities. Our instructors keep it fun with many drills as well as each session concluding with a short scrimmage to start to introduce them to games. As we get closer to December 4th you will hear from the league on team assignment and the time of the session for your child. I encourage you to register early. The cost is $150 for the upcoming season.
• 3rd and 4th Grade Program: Your child will be placed on an assigned team for the season. We will have a rotating schedule that will be held on Saturday afternoons at Kennedy Middle School. During these sessions we will start with a 30 minute theme of the week session where we will go over 2-3 drills to have your kids work on certain fundamental skills of the game of basketball. We will then have a game against another team that will be approximately 30 minutes long. We will keep score and all kids get rotated in every 4-5 minutes so the playing time for everyone is fairly equal. Last year we had a total of 6 teams in this league and most likely will be the same for the upcoming season. This program will begin on December 4th as well. We typically give the kids 10 games for the season,  I encourage you to register early. The cost is $150 for the upcoming season.

• In-town Regular YBA
• 5th and 6th Grade Program: This program is designed to continue the development of basketball skills and competition. We will have a 10 game regular season in which we maintain standings and then we will have post-season playoffs. The program last year had 6 teams and depending on interest we will most likely have the same. Every player participates in every game as there is mandatory playing time requirements for each game. All of the games will be held at McDevitt Middle School. Generally the games are held Saturday afternoons in a rotating schedule.  Once we make up the teams and we move closer to the regular season start date which will be December 4th you will hear from your child's coach. There will be a few practices in November. The times and dates of those practice are TBD. I encourage you to register early. The cost is $150 for the upcoming season.
• 7th and 8th Grade Program: This program is designed to continue the development of basketball skills and competition. We will have a 12 game regular season in which we maintain standings and then we will have post-season playoffs. The program last year had 7 teams and depending on interest we will most likely have the same. Every player participates in every game as there is mandatory playing time requirements for each game. All of the games will be held at McDevitt Middle School. Generally the games are held Saturday afternoons in a rotating schedule plus there may be a game or two on Wednesday evening. Once we make up the teams and we move closer to the regular season start date which will be December 4th you will hear from your child's coach. There will be a few practices in November. The times and dates of those practice are TBD. I encourage you to register early. The cost is $150 for the upcoming season.

• Travel Teams Waltham
• ONLY 4th – 8th GRADE ELIGIBLE: This program is designed for those that wish to experience a more competitive and serious atmosphere of basketball. We currently offer this to a child that is in 4th through 8th grade. We play in the Metro West Travel Basketball League. Depending on interest and the amount of kids that tryout we generally offer 1 to 2 teams per age group. Please keep in mind that to be eligible to try out for the travel program you must sign-up for the in-town basketball league. Your child is required to be play both. When signing up for in-town there is a box that you can check if you are interested in travel which will allow us to see who wants to tryout. If your child is fortunate enough to make the team then you will register for travel after the team is made up. There is no guarantee that your child will make the team if he tries out as it will depend on ability as well as the number of kids that try out for each age group.There are two practices a week at various locations/times at Waltham Schools as well as the Waltham Park and Recreation building. The games will all be on Sunday. The home games are at McDevitt Middle School. There will also be away games are various towns mainly in the Metro West Area. We will be having try outs towards the middle of October for the upcoming travel season so please register for the in-town season ASAP and check the interest in playing travel box so we can circle back with you in the coming weeks on dates, times. The travel teams regular season begins in December and runs through the end of February. The playoffs will be in March. You should expect to have two practices a week starting towards the end of October throughout the season. The cost is $310 for the upcoming season.
