Bowden headed to Japan
When most players are putting their equipment away for the winter, one Ottawa City Midget player will be packing his gear for some additional training. 2B Stuart Bowden will be headed to Osaka, Japan in early December with three other Ottawa area players for two weeks of training with the Osaka Gakugei high school team.
The boys will attend regular high school classes in the morning wearing traditional Japanese uniforms and then practice/train with the baseball team in the afternoon. At night they will have time to explore the city of Osaka with its more than 2.7 million residents and such landmarks as the Osaka Dome, home field of the Orix Buffaloes of the Japanese Professional Baseball League. The Buffaloes alumni include former MLBers Chan Ho Park and Hideo Nomo. They will also spend time learning about Japanese history and culture with their host families.
The players hope to bring back not only memories and souvenirs but new baseball experiences that they can share with their teammates and coaches in Ottawa.
A special thanks to Greg Duggan (Canada) and Tom Clark (Japan) in setting up this amazing experience for the players.

Minor Midgets: Finalists in Cortland NY
Our OCBA Minor Midgets had a great run at the CC Kings Cortland Woodbat Tournament June 15-17. The team mercied its opponent in the quarter-finals before a thrilling 8-4 victory against the Seneca All-Stars in the Semis. Our team played heroically against a bearded college-prep team before inclining late on Sunday night. The coaches agreed the team played its best ball so far, and we are ready to move into the second half of the season!
OCBA players advance to OFSAA
Congratulations to OCBA Minor Midget players Mason Evers, Evan Stucker, Logan Klein and Ryan Klein who were part of the NCSSAA champions Mother Teresa baseball team and will be participating in the OFSSA championship in Oshawa June 6-7 in Oshawa.
Also congratulations to OCBA Minor Midget player Andrew Sahadeo, who will be participating in the OFSSA Track & Field championship in the Javelin competition on June 8 in Toronto.
Good luck boys. We are proud of your accomplishments.

Carleton University-OCBA Partnership
The OCBA U11 Jr. Ravens baseball team completed its first-ever league game on Wednesday night, defeating the Seaway Surge Mosquito team 9-3 in Merrickville. The game marks the culmination of months of effort by the Ravens baseball club and a group of parents, mainly from the Glebe and South Ottawa area to grow OBA baseball in the nation’s capital.
Ravens baseball team President George Rigakos says the Jr. Ravens idea was something the team and the Athletics Department had been discussing for some time but it was not until this past winter that momentum began to build.
“It was really something that emerged naturally from our camps and my own involvement with Little League baseball” Rigakos said.
The Jr. Ravens Mosquito team is a pilot project in partnership with the Ottawa City Baseball Association (OCBA) whose President, like Rigakos, is also a Carleton University faculty member.

The Carleton Ravens Baseball Club is once again offering a Summer Camp for players between the ages of 7-12 focusing on baseball fundamentals.
The full-day, weekly camps run through July and include outdoor and indoor skills development and general baseball fun for players at the Sr. TeeBall/Coach Pitch, Minor and Major levels (ages 7-12). Depending on enrolments, players will be organized by age and skill set. The camp will focus on baseball fundamentals including fielding, hitting and pitching and will include daily scrimmage games and/or skills events.
This year, the camps are offered July 3-6 and July 16-20 at the Arch Street PS and adjoining fields in partnership with South Ottawa Little League and July 9-13 at Carleton Place Arena and adjoining diamonds in partnership with Mississippi Little League. All are welcome.
