"SOFTBALL IS LIFE - THE REST IS JUST DETAILS"

Live it - Learn it - Love it.

Confucius Says:

"One who is out on a called third strike has no one to blame but themself.  There is no excuse one can give to justify standing there and letting the ball go by when you already have two strikes against you."

In the first of two games for the night, the Blue Angels picked up their second win of the season, holding off the hard charging Midnight Storm and ending up with a 10-7 victory they could take to the bank. Audrey Smoda carried the team on her back, garnering most of the hits for the Blues, going 3-3 with three RBI's. Miranda Neal added a line shot single down the right field line for the only other on-base effort by bat. Smoda also managed to control the pitching rubber, giving up just three hits, striking out nine and surrendering only two walks. On the first base side of the field, Emily Majewski stood out among the crowd, also generating a 3-3 performance for the Storm and an identical three RBI's. Hers were the only hits counted on the board for the team. Majewski, like her counterpart on the Angels, also turned in a stellar performance in her role as pitcher, surrendering a mere four hits while striking out four. The game started out with the Storm loading the bases in the top of the first and scored on an HBP but that is where the activity died. The Angels came back with the three in the bottom frame to take command but the Midnighters answered with four in the top of the second to tie things up. Even-Steven didn't last log as the Angels got the max of five runs in response and tallied one each in the third and fourth, just to keep everyone on their toes. The Storm picked up two in the fourth but time ran out and the game just kind of petered to a halt.

In the nightcap, the Cherry Bombers edged out the Sapphire Flames as the game clock reached its Zenith, picking up a well earned 17-14 win. A lot more hits were recorded in this contest and the top of the Bombers lineup produced the bulk of the power, amassing a total of thirteen on base efforts. Alex Sweeney captured the batting title for the group, going 4-4 with four RBI's while Monserrat Estrada trailed right behind her with a 3-3 record, including a double and two RBI's. Jordyn Byrnes, (2-2) and Sam Spagnola (2-4), both with two RBI's, rounded out the major production measure with Mia Laudando and Olivia Nelson contributing a hit apiece. The Sapphires made a great effort but were held to a mere three hits coming from Elianna Perez (1-1), Anna White (1-2, two RBI's) and Alba Dowdle (1-1, five RBI's). Neither team had a scoreless inning, picking up several runs each in each half of all the frames played. The Bombers struck first with a three-run top of the first but the Flames answered in their half with four. The Cherries returned fire in the top of the second and with a bunch of walks tossed in, maxed out at five. In the third, both teams ran up four on the board and mutually agreed that was enough for the inning. In the fourth, the Bombers picked another maximum with the Flames coming back with four before time was called and everyone went home.

Lights out and we will definitely meet again.

About WGS

WGS is a community based not-for-profit corporation established and maintained to provide a summer recreational fast-pitch softball program for the girls of Westchester and nearby suburbs.  The league is organized into four main divisions: T-Ball, open to Kindergarten and First graders, T-Ball offers competitive games in a beginner/teaching atmosphere to help those entering the sport learn how the game is played;  Juniors, a competitive group of teams for second through fourth graders that play against each other on Wednesdays and Fridays while still maintaining that learning base; Minors, for fifth through eighth grade girls where the competition on Tuesdays and Thursdays gets tough and teams vie for divisional and end of season tournament honors. Finally and new for 2026, we are establishing travel teams for 16U and 18U girls. We may be recreational, but we are still damned competitive and loads of fun.  And coming to Westchester in 2026 - fast pitch fall ball!
