Playoff Preview
1. Planeteers finished the season 8-0 and have been blowing out teams. David Noh (22.9 PPG, 12 RPG) put up lofty stats during the regular season, proving that he is a elite basketball player. He size, strength, and ability to finish make him hard to defend against. Playmaker Phil Shin finds open teammates like 3-point specialist Steve Yi. Other players on the team contribute to the team’s tough defense and timely scoring. Planeteers are hungry for a championship and will not let anything get in their way.
2. Teddy Bears also finished the season 8-0, dominating most teams they played. The addition of Shun Gokita (22.5 PPG, 7.5 RPG) and Daniel Yoon has bolstered their offense. Bo Noung (24.7 PPG) led the league in scoring, while Timmy Dam and Thomas Byrd continue to anchor the team at the PG and C positions. This is one of the most efficient teams in the league, and they will take advantage of any mistakes opposing teams make. After winning championships the first two seasons and getting close the last two, Teddy Bears are ready to reclaim their title.
3. Swishers have a strong record of 6-2, winning two games the last week of the season. Zachary Antoine (18.9 PPG, 13.8 RPG) continues to anchor the team on offense and defense. Perimeter players like Michael Nego and Tri Nguyen provide outside shooting and penetration, while inside players like Noah Clark and James Brown provide defense and toughness. The core players of Swishers have been consistent all season, and they are looking to go deep in the playoffs.
4. Bieber Fever finished the season 5-3, losing only to Teddy Bears and Planeteers. Core players like Alex Lee, Tim Tang, Jason Lo, James Ryu, and Mike Gong continue to drive them to success each week. The addition of Young Min Kim and John Wang has added more firepower to an already lethal squad. At their best Bieber Fever is a team that can pass, score, and defend. They play together and they play with confidence. Last season in the playoff semifinals they lost to a buzzer-beater by Rosco Monsters. This time Bieber Fever hopes to win it all.
5. OBLpros finished the season 5-3. The heart and soul of the team is John D. Barnes (20.7 PPG, 17.6 RPG), a big man who runs the floor, crashes the boards, and finishes around the rim. He plays hard every possession and pulls up for the occasional three. OBLpros also have other players on the perimeter who can hit shots and create spacing. More execution on offense and defense can turn OBLpros into a dangerous team that no one wants to face in the playoffs.
6. Supersonics 5-3 had some tough losses this season. With their roster they have the potential to win every game they play. Eric Tran (17.7 PPG) and Marcus Wilson (15.2 PPG) lead the team in scoring and set the tone for other players. The addition of Met Tang has given them much needed size and rebounding. Other players like Tommy Nguyen and Sang Nguyen also contribute in passing and defense. With more team play and clutch scoring the Supersonics can make a run for a championship.
7. Rosco Monsters had a record of 4-4, losing only to Teddy Bears and Bieber Fever. Even though there is a lot of talent on the team, they struggled to put it together during the season. It remains to be seen whether they can beat the top teams in the league. Last season Rosco Monsters made it to the championship game, and Mike Yoo had a MVP performance (for another team). With smarter defense and more execution on offense, they have a chance to get back to the finals.
8. Angry Birds had a deflating season with a record of 3-5. They had a tough schedule, losing to Rosco Monsters, Teddy Bears, Planeteers, and Bieber Fever, but they did beat Gwinnettians and OrientalExp. The core players of Kenny Lee, Kevin Nguyen, and Bryant Ly have been carrying the team the whole season. The addition of a true big man and better defensive scheme could help turn this team around. If Angry Birds can catch fire they can surprise in the playoffs.
9. RPM struggled this season with a record of 2-6. They beat Wings and OBLpros, but also lost to OrientalExp. Nam Nguyen (16.1 PPG) has emerged as a lethal scorer who can shoot and create his own shot. Johnny Hughes has the ability to dominate the block and Tony Ha has been effective in finding teammates. Better team offense and spacing can help turn this team around. If they can figure it out this could be a dangerous team in the playoffs.
10. Daiwan finished the season 2-6 to squeeze into the playoffs as a wildcard. They are competitive in almost every game they played, only to lose in the final minutes. Better conditioning and execution could help them finish games better. Chieu Juan Chang (13.2 PPG, 7.5 RPG) led the team in scoring and rebounding. Other guys also contribute to make this a well-balanced team. To make any noise in the playoffs Daiwan will have to do it a unit.
