Playoffs Preview
1. Ballumanati finished the season 6-1 to earn the #1 seed. They have been dominant all season, blowing out weaker teams and beating stronger teams in close games. They lost once in what seemed to be a fluke ending where Shun Gokita (19.4 PPG) was 2-10 from the charity stripe. After struggling for 2 seasons, Joshua Kim (18.0 PPG) has emerged as one of the top players in the league. Ballumanati has size, depth, and superior team play. Every player has a role, and every player contributes. They generate steals on defense and get a lot of easy baskets. A championship is on the horizon for Ballumanati. 2. Rosco Monsters also ended the season 6-1, losing only to Ballumanati. This is a physical team with a lot of size. They like to hand out punishment rather than take it. Billy Chin and Hanson Wong gobbles up rebounds in the paint. Players like Kevin Duong and Trevor Callender can dominant games with their athleticism and skill. Katai Sayyakone is the emotional leader who pushes the team to victories every night, while Andrew Liu provides deadly spot-up 3's. After losing in the semifinals last season, Rosco Monsters are primed for a victory parade. 3. Teddy Bears finished the season 5-2, losing only to the top 2 seeds. Bo Noung (24.7 PPG) leads the league in scoring, while Timmy Dam leads in assists (5.7 APG). This team has a lot of size with Thomas Byrd, and versatile forwards like Met Tang and Vechat Nhep. James Yi also contributes by shooting 3's and getting to the line. Teddy Bears have a lot of experience, and they always find a way to win. If they can get more consistent scoring from other players and force teams to play their style, they have a chance to get back to the top of the podium. 4. Hamsters at 4-3, had some good wins and tough losses. They improved greatly from past seasons, when they were known as Rocketeers. They picked up Eric Tran (21.0 PPG) and Jerry Liao who provide steady guard play and scoring. Kevin Kong (10.7 RPG) leads the league in rebounds with his determination and knack for loose balls. Better bench production could help this team stay competitive. Due to lack of size, Hamsters will struggle against the top teams, but they have a chance of advancing in the playoffs if they play tougher defense and keep games close. 5. Team Kang also went 4-3, but lost to Hamsters and ended as the #5 seed. Team Kang run a very small rotation of 7 players, but they play with great chemistry. Roy Kang is a scoring point guard who can hit a ton of 3's and also dish. He has good handles and can create off his dribble. Team Kang have decent size and rebounders with guys like Nate Parker and James Pock. Kar Ou could be the key to this team's success in the playoffs. He plays both ends, and knows how to slash and fill in the gaps. If everything clicks for Team Kang, they could surprise in the playoffs. 6. Natural 9 struggled this season with a record of 1-6. Dang Tran continues to lead the team in points and assists. Players like Jae Moon and Sy Kingsada have provided consistent support, but not enough to get the team over the hump. Tommy Yi can be a wildcard when he shows up. If Natural 9 play tougher defense they have a shot of pulling an upset in the playoffs. 7. INFI also have a record of 1-6. Qing Zheng has been the most consistent scorer on the team, with his ability to shoot 3's and make nifty layups. Xiao Wang contributes a little bit on offense and is the backbone of the defense. INFI would be more successful if they work on fundamentals and team play. With enough self-believe and intensity, INFI could make a playoff push. 8. Old Timers at 1-6 had a disastrous season. Other teams look forward to padding their stats when they get to play Old Timers. Bobby Ly and Alex Chiang are the only players who have consistently shown up for games. If some of the better players show up for the playoffs, Old Timers have a chance to pull off an upset. Otherwise they are heading to the lottery, hoping to draft a Lebron James. |
