Why the name Sixers?

In the military, "Got your six" means "I've got your back."  The saying

originated with World War I fighter pilots referencing a pilot's rear as the six o'clock position.  So, when someone tells you that they've "Got your 6," it means they're watching your back.  By extension, that person expects you to have their back as well.

The military connection is very personal to our family, my wife Julie proudly served in the Navy for 6 1/2 years with a deployment to Iraq in 2004.  (Click on photo to read: "From Mortars to Motherhood")

In sports, just as in the military, teamwork and loyalty are a must for success.

I hope the name Sixers will be an inspiration and a source of pride on and off the field.
