FALL LEAGUE --- Scroll down for complete information or CLICK HERE TO REGISTER!

Total Baseball Development will be operating its TBD Fall League for High School players here in 2023 beginning September 10.  This will be the 19th year of the Total Baseball Development High School Fall Baseball League....just known by the players as the TBD Fall League.  The three primary locations will be Sioux City, the Iowa Great Lakes, and Highway 20 with again the possibility of hosting wild card locations at various and area high school fields and public and city parks.  Call us . . . we might play at your place!  Also at the Iowa Great Lakes there will be the 4th year of the youth TBD Fall League that includes the 4th and 5th Grade Division and the 6th and 7th Grade Division.  The High School Division of the TBD Fall League again will offer spots for players from 8th to 12th grades, with younger and older divisions as number of teams allows with the goal of competitive balance.  Opening Day will be September 10 and the five weeks will consist of two 5 inning games in three hours on the five Sundays of September 10, 17, 24 and October 1 and 8.  And as a player in the TBD Fall League there will be two FREE OF CHARGE Saturday camps. 

FALL SUPER SERIES

With weather permitting and all locations ending in the TBD Fall League on October 8, the TBD Fall Super Series will be held on October 15 for players interested in playing college baseball, location to be announced.........

Iowa Great Lakes 'Okobojis' FALL COLLEGE PROSPECTS BASEBALL TEAM PLAYING OUTSIDE OF THE FALL LEAGUE

New this year will be the rebirth of Total Baseball Development's fall College Prospects Team that will play now as the Iowa Great Lakes Okobojis.  The Sioux City Bancrofts operated in this capacity in the fall in 2009, 2010, and 2011.  Here in 2023 the fall Okobojis will be comprised of 14-16 high school players that do not play football and are interested in getting better and playing college baseball. The team will play a 22 to 28 game developmental and competitive schedule in the immediate midwest on seven weekends, with all games being outside of the traditional TBD Fall League.  The Okobojis fall season will culminate in a trip to Phoenix in late October to play on the Major League Baseball complexes of the Seattle Mariners and San Diego Padres.  The fall schedule for the Okobojis will be set by Friday, July 28 and posted here on the TBD website.  The roster will be built from primarily players that have played in the TBD Fall League providing opportunities to our players here in northwest Iowa, southern Minnesota, southeast South Dakota, and the greater area of central and eastern Nebraska.  

THREE TEAMS TO PHOENIX . . . TWO UNDERCLASSMAN TEAMS INCLUDING SOME JUNIORS & THE OKOBOJIS --- FOR MORE INFORMATION CLICK HERE

As an extension of the TBD Fall League, Total Baseball Development will be taking three teams to Phoenix. The Iowa Great Lakes Okobojis as part of their fall schedule and also two additional underclassman teams (allowing 5 juniors per team) comprised primarily of players playing in the TBD Fall League.  Each Phoenix team can carry any grade of underclcassmen players and five juniors born on or after May 01, 2007.  TBD will allow football players to travel and play in Phoenix as long as their football season is completed by , Saturday, October 13.  Those two additional teams traveling will be the Sioux City Bancrofts and the Sioux City Saints.  The Sioux City Bancrofts were operated by Total Baseball Development as a high school aged baseball club playing three fall seasons and five years total from 2008 to 2012.  The Sioux City Saints is the longest operating baseball organization in Sioux City, established in 1975 by Fred Stolen, and has taken many forms since then and over the years with the longest and most traditional tenure being a summer amatuer collegiate baseball team from that first year in 1975 to 2013.  What's old is new again! 

TBD PRE-SEASON WEEKEND ON LABOR DAY WEEKEND FOR TEAMS IN THE TBD FALL LEAGUE

And to start off simple and the fall right for good foundation, TBD Fall League will be offering the first ever TBD Pre-Season Weekend with TBD organizing field space and two hour field time scrimmages for teams on September 2, 3, and 4.  Balls will be provided.  This is for high school players and teams who have completed team sign ups by Sunday, August 27.  NO EXTRA CHARGE for this very new and progressive program offering extra baseball opportunities for players signing up for the TBD Fall League.  If your team is interested in this please have them call, text, or email Bob Protexter at: 712-490-7199 and protexter.tbd@gmail.com

• YES dropped 3rd strike rule.  Defense must convert this out by throwing to 1st base for the force out.

NEWS:

(August 1, 2016) Total Baseball Development is hosting the 12th year of the TBD Fall League in Sioux City. The Iowa Great Lakes is going on their 2nd year as a TBD Fall League location!  And with the most teams ever for the TBD Fall League last year in 2015 we are expanding to the Fort Dodge area for this year of 2016.  Your team will play at just one of the three locations for the entire fall unless you request to travel for 'inter-league' play! Your team selects the one location that is the most convenient and that will be your home for the TBD Fall League.

12 players to a team and teams play 2 five inning games in a three hour time frame for five Sundays.  Games are scheduled tournament style so on the last Sunday teams will compete for first place and the winners receive Championship t-shirts, trophys, and genuine fake champagne!

• The TBD Fall League is for high school baseball players 8^th  through 12^th grades . . . All Iowa players welcome as well as players from Nebraska, South Dakota, and Minnesota.
• Three hours of baseball every Sunday for five weeks before the leaves are down and the snow falls keeps your skills fresh and gets you a great jump on the competition for the 2017 season!
• Games will take place on the five Sundays of September 11, 18, 25, October 2 and 9.
• There are 12 players to a team.  Individual players or small groups can sign up and be assigned to a created team or FULL TEAMS can sign up.
  
• It gets you groovin for next summer so sign up now!!!

 

THREE LOCATIONS:

• The Sioux City location will host games at the Strikers Complex and expand to other Sioux City area locations as needed.  The Sioux City location will take the first 20 teams to sign up.
  
• The Iowa Great Lakes location will host games at the Harris-Lake Park High School baseball field, the Spencer High School baseball field, and expand to other Iowa Great Lakes locations as needed.  The Lakes location will take the first 12 teams to sign up.  
  
• The Fort Dodge location will host games at Patterson Field, Wrigley Field at Harlan Rogers Park, and expand to other Fort Dodge area locations as needed.  The Fort Dodge location will take the first 8 teams to sign up.
  

ADDITIONAL POSSIBILITIES:

• Your team will play at only one of the three primary locations throughout the fall unless you volunteer for Interleague Play, which means you could play at either of the other two sites on various weekends based on your request or via an invitation.  Teams must approve of this.
  
• Additional Wild Card sites within reasonable distance of the three primary locations may be used only if the tournament style scheduling allows and if teams approve of a Wild Card site.  Multiple Wild Card sites have hosted TBD Fall League games in the past.  Sioux Central's High School field in Peterson, Iowa was used in 2015 as a Wild Card site, and in 2016 the Alta High School field in Alta, Iowa may be either used for a Wild Card site or for Interleague Play.

HERE IS WHO IT IS FOR:

• ·         High school baseball players from Fall 8th graders all the way up through high school seniors
•             High school baseball players from Iowa and also from Nebraska, South Dakota, and Minnesota
•          High school baseball players that want to get better at the game
•         High school baseball players that want an edge on the competition on the first day of practice in 2017
•         High school baseball players that like baseball

 

HERE IS HOW IT WORKS: 

 

• Teams will play 2 five inning games in a scheduled 3 hour time session every Sunday . . . So your team will play one 3 hour session every Sunday at either 12:00 noon or 3:15 pm.
• After Church and before sundown.
• The 1st session runs from 12:00pm to 3:00pm
• 2nd session runs from 3:15pm to 6:15pm
• Schedules are set Tournament Style and are set for the first Sunday based on TBD Fall League pre-season rankings.  Then the schedules are set up for all following weeks based on your team's Fall League standings, results, and team record.  Pre-season rankings are based on the grades of the players on the team. 
• Schedules for all Sundays will be posted here on the front page.  After each Sunday the schedule for the next week will be posted by or before midnight on Monday. 
• FIVE Sundays of competitive baseball starting September 11, 2016

 

More about the Fall League .......

 

• Each player receives a TBD Fall League t-shirt with team colors and a number on the back.  Rosters will be printed to identify all players.
• All players hit in the lineup. 12 men to a team. (13 max option available – Please ask.)
• Free substitution on defense. 
• Pitch counts for pitchers.
• Fall League standings for all teams, with pre-season rankings based on the overall age of your team and last year's finish if you played in the TBD Fall League!
• ALL metal bats used must be BBCOR Certified, and the TBD Fall League will be wood bat optional again this year.
• The 2016 TBD Fall League will be for 2017 High School eligible players. This means 8th graders can play, and players from all states are welcome to play.
• Full teams will provide their own coaches and we will work to provide coaches for teams that are created from individuals and small groups from many schools.  Those teams are listed as All-Star teams.
• The TBD Fall League is a great way to have fun and to get better at playing baseball in the fall!!!

Players are responsible for:

- Own equipment; including bats, helmets, gloves, catching gear, baseball pants, and protective gear.  You will be provided with a numbered t-shirt jersey and a field to play on . . . Get after it!

- Own good attitudes - You are already on a baseball field so that should put you into the good attitude mood already.  Appreciate the abilities that you have and play hard.

- Own hustle - Move the games along as sessions are timed.  If you walk on the field then you are losing at bats and opportunities to make great plays.  Do not leave any innings on the table.  90 % of hustle is on the players, with 5% on the coaches and 5% on the umpires.  The more hustle exuded the more baseball played . . . and more baseball is a good thing.

TBD FALL LEAGUE SIGNUPS, ROSTERS, and SCHEDULES . . . 

• Team / Partial Team Signups: If you are having a full team or partial team please make sure you, your coach, manager, or team organizer goes to our website and clicks "Downloadable Forms & Printable Flyers" by the yellow arrow in the left-hand blue column.  Then fill out the roster and email it to protexter.tbd@gmail.com or send it in by regular mail.  This will be cross referenced with the online signups received to make your roster.  We will organize teams by requests and by the school listed on the signup. 
• Individual Signup: If you are an individual signup or a very small group we will group you by need of position to the create the proper team pitching wise and defensively to the best of our ability.  Remember: Pitching and Defense wins Championships!
• ROSTERS: As the signups come in and the teams round up we will start posting rosters and lists of players on this website so you can see who has signed up, and so you can get all your guys to sign up in time.  This will be general at first with mostly just names, and then simple rosters, and then more specific with jersey colors and numbers a bit later. We would rather be late and accurate with final rosters than early and constantly making changes.  Thanks for your patience. 
• SCHEDULES: For the schedule of the first Sunday on September 11 we rank all the teams league wide and schedule championship tournament style.  Because of very many variables and some interesting team creation situations the schedule for Week 1 will come out late the week of September 5.  Again, we would rather be late and accurate than early and constantly having to make changes.  Again, thanks for your patience.

ABOUT Bill Krejci:

Bill Krejci is the former Head Baseball Coach and retired Athletics Director at Southwestern Community College in Creston, Iowa where he served thirty six years at the college.  Krejci works with USA Baseball as a Special Advisor and Talent Evaluator, and is a former Team USA field manager and hitting coach for all various age groups including the dominating Team USA 18U where he coached the likes of Joe Mauer, Manny Machado, and Bryce Harper.  USA Baseball is the national governing body for amateur baseball, representing the sport in the United States as a member of the U.S. Olympic Committee (USOC) and internationally as a member federation of the World Baseball Softball Confederation (WBSC).

 

Krejci engages with campers in Iowa and throughout the United States just like he engaged with these big league players he has coached in Mauer, Machado, and Harper and many others. Quick stat: Five of his former Team USA players played in the 2013 Major League Baseball All-Star Game at the New York Met’s Citi Field: Mauer of the Minnesota Twins, and JJ Hardy and Machado of the Baltimore Orioles, Freddie Freeman of the Atlanta Braves and Harper of the Washington Nationals . . . the very much so possible National League MVP here in 2015! 

 

This coming Sunday, September 27 you will get to interact for an hour and twenty minutes and then some with a hitting coach who has traveled the world with Team USA; who has ventured to Russia to conduct baseball clinics and workouts, and who here right at home in Iowa captained the ship as head baseball coach at Southwestern Community College to the tune of twenty-two years and a school record of 543 wins.  Krejci is a native of Chicago, Illinois and retired from Southwestern in 2014. Bill lives in the Des Moines, Iowa area with his wife Teresa.

What is PSR?

Each team's Pre-Season Ranking is devised by adding the graduation dates up and dividing by the number of players on the roster, so in general terms it's like golf . . . low number is ranked higher.  Players signing up after 11:15pm on Friday, September 12 and assigned to a team may not be figured into that teams ranking percentage, unless teams are re-ranked which is highly unlikely. The team's preseason ranking will be listed on all subsequent weeks rankings, and can and may and will be used for scheduling purposes.

Each team will get two game results each Sunday which will create a record for that team, and that record along with Runs Given Up along with Pre-Season rankings and head to head results and other variables will be used in scheduling the following weeks.

Players are responsible for:

- Own equipment; including bats, helmets, gloves, catching gear, baseball pants, and protective gear.  You will be provided with a numbered t-shirt jersey and a field to play on . . . Get after it!

- Own good attitudes - You are already on a baseball field so that should put you into the good attitude mood already.  Appreciate the abilities that you have and play hard.

- Own hustle - Move the games along as sessions are timed.  If you walk on the field then you are losing at bats and opportunities to make great plays.  Do not leave any innings on the table.  90 % of hustle is on the players, with 5% on the coaches and 5% on the umpires.  The more hustle exuded the more baseball played . . . and more baseball is a good thing.

TBD Fall League RULES:

  

2015 Total Baseball Development Fall League

Official Game Rules:

+ Teams are to be set with twelve man rosters with all players hitting in the lineup.  Thirteen / Fourteen player maximum is allowed only with prior approval. Free substitution on defense is allowed with the exception of pitchers re-entering as a pitcher after another pitcher has pitched. The home team is allowed to hit in the bottom of the last inning of the second game regardless of score if time and pitching allows. If the home team is winning before that bottom starts and has won the game already, then that game score stands as the final score before that bottom begins. The home team of the first game will be the visiting team in the second game. The on deck hitter at end of game one leads off the second game for both teams, and the lineups stay the same from game one to game two.

+ Pitchers will be limited to three innings of work and or a sixty pitch, pitch count. A thirty pitch, pitch count will be used per inning. A pitcher can exceed thirty pitches only when the pitch count is thirty or less when an at-bat begins. The inning will then either roll over (the inning stops where it is at and the next inning starts with same base runners in place), a reliever will be used (the next scheduled pitcher can begin his appearance and his pitch count and inning count begins immediately), or a ringer (coach/instructor may be used if/when available) will complete the inning. The base umpire will keep the pitch count and communicate with the pitcher on pitch count. The pitcher will be notified when he begins a batter with twenty five or more pitches.

+ No bases will be awarded for hitters that walk or are hit by a pitch until the third occurrence in one trip to the plate, at which point the result will be the result, and the batter will take his base if walked or hit by a pitch.  Until that third occurrence that batter will stay at home plate and hit again with a new count.  The player making the last out will take his place at first base for that walk or hit by pitch. Exceptions for ‘last out’ runners are catchers and the pitcher at that time, where then the next last out will run. For score book continuity that batter will be credited with a walk or a hit by pitch.  

+ Courtesy runners are to be used for catchers and pitchers with one or more outs.

+ The three hour game sessions will be played in double header fashion with each game being five innings each with ten to fifteen minutes in-between games. The less the break the more the baseball! The more you hustle on and off the more baseball! After the first pitch of the first game for each session the umpire will record the START TIME and communicate this with each dugout.  No new inning in any session but the last session of the day will begin in the second game of that session with less than fifteen minutes left in that sessions three hour time frame.  No new inning in the last session of the day will begin in the second game of that session in that sessions three hour mark of the three hour time frame.  Delay of game tactics to run out the clock will be dealt with appropriately by the umpires.  If the first game is tied after five innings then the sixth inning of the first game will start with a runner (the last hitter from the previous inning regardless of position) at second base. If the first game is tied after six innings then the game will be a tie, and the result counts as a tie.  The same situation will be applied to the second game for the 6th inning, and then as time permits, the 7th inning will start with a runners (the last two hitters from the previous inning regardless of position) at second and third base. The 8th inning will start with bases loaded with the last three hitters from the previous inning as base runners.  

+ All baseball rules outside of the TBD Fall League rules will be the Iowa High School Athletic Association Baseball Rules.

+ All teams will receive a win, loss, or tie for each game. Any second game with at least one complete inning will count towards the team’s standings as a final game result.  The home plate umpire will record the final score of both games after the second game, and will confer these scores with each head coach of that day.

+ Play hard ~ always.

+ Have fun ~ lots of it.
