SUMMER '06 HIGHLIGHTS

NIKE SANTA BARBARA RESULTS

Congratulations to our girls on an exciting weekend. With over 35 colleges in attendance, our girls played very well against all-star teams and finished 4th overall. The last game was an indication of how far they have come as they lost a close game to California State Semi-Finalist Lynwood. Lynwood is traditionally one of the top four teams in the state. See brief summary below each game:

C-Dub Eagles 101 So Cal Lady Tigers 26
Our girls pushed the tempo from the opening tip and sustained their defensive intensity for 32 minutes. It was the first time these girls reached triple digits in a game!

C-Dub Eagles 48 Got Game 66
After getting down 18, we battled back within 6 before GOT GAME opened up the lead late. Got Game is one of the top So. Cal Club Teams, but we wouldn't back down.

C-Dub Eagles 52 Swish Future 51
After trailing by as many as 10, the girls battled back yet again. Trailing by one with 10 seconds to go, Swish Future missed a FT and Blakely Goldberg raced down the floor to score a running left handed shot with 2 seconds to go to win the game.

C-Dub Eagles 54 Lynwood 61
Great game in which our girls led by 1 at halftime. Down 4 with under 2 minutes to play, we stayed toe to toe with one of the perennial powers in the state of California.

4th PLACE FINISH IN THE NIKE SWISH/STORM INVITATIONAL

CW WINS THE NIKE BATTLE AT THE BEACH!
What an amazing finish to an awesome summer! The CW Gold team went to San Diego to compete in the Nike Battle of the Beach in front of college coaches. Against top all-star teams from around the West Coast, our girls did a tremendous job finishing 6-0! Outmatched in size and athleticism, we wouldn't be outmatched in discipline and effort! After 2 tough games in pool play, the Gold team won their pool and played Salt Lake Metro Gold in the opening round of the championship bracket of the open division. A convincing 30 point win advanced the Gold team to the semi-finals. In the semi's, the Gold team battled a really talented Orinda Magic team that boasted 4 girls over 6 feet tall and held on late to win by 7. Advancing to the improbable Championship Game, the girls took on the Nor Cal Elite out of Sacramento. Trailing by 12 with 4:38 to go, the girls came out of a time out refocused and regrouped. The teamwork, effort and discipline of Golden Eagle Basketball took over as they closed the gap in regulation and pushed the game to overtime. In overtime, trailing by 2, Christine Dela Rosa scored at the buzzer to force double overtime. In the second OT, again down two, Blakely Goldberg got the ball with 3 seconds to play and scored a left handed lay up in traffic to force a sudden death, triple overtime! After a frantic race up and down the court, Blakely made it to the lane and drew a foul. She calmly drained the first free throw to give the Clovis West girls the championship. As the girls stormed onto the court in celebration, their efforts were applauded by many not associated with our team--but respectful of the girls team work and never say die attitude. This was a tremendous summer for all of our girls, capped off with an amazing championship against their toughest competition of the summer. They were the only school team competing against all star teams. We are so very proud of the efforts of each and every girl that commited to our summer program. Enjoy some time off and we'll see you soon! GO EAGLES!

In the championship, Canyon Springs jumped out to a 21-8 first quarter lead and our Lady Eagles responded with a 22-3 run and took a 9 point lead into halftime. The girls came out to start the second half firing and opened up the lead to finish with a 72-53 win over a very talented Canyon Springs team and claim the championship title! It was a tremendous effort by our girls. Patsy Brown was selected as All-Tournament and Blakely Goldberg was selected as tournament MVP after scoring 25 in the championship. This was the Eagles second tournament championship during this preseason. Great job girls!
The varisty team traveled to Phoenix, Arizona to participate in the Nike Tournament of Champions. The girls played four games against some of the best high school basketball teams in the nation, including knocking off the State Champion from Colorado which boasted 9 girls at 5'-10" or taller! There were 80 teams signed up for this tournament. The teams were divided into five brackets and Cloivs West was placed into the GRAY BRACKET. The Clovis West Basketball program hosted the first annual Nike Central Valley Showdown. The team defeated both Manogue and Sanger High Schools on their way to a semi-final match against Bishop Gorman from Las Vegas. The Bishop Gorman team had two 6’4” girls and is currently ranked number 17 in the nation. After withstanding an initial run that had the Eagles down 17-4 the girls played this powerhouse team even for the last three quarters. In their final game of the tournament, the CW Eagles played Reed High School from Reno, Nevada. Reed High school finished last year as the runner ups to the Nevada State Champions. The Eagles fell short in this game to earn fourth place in the tournament.

Natalie Butler, Brianna Orlich, and Blaire Caeton were selected to the All-Tournament Team.

The varsity team braved the elements and returned home from Reno after winning their first tournament of the season. The team played and won four games by scoring 309 points while only allowing 163 points. They played Hug High School, Douglas High School, North Valley High School, and Carson High School.

Ashley Orlich was named Tournament MVP while Blakely Goldberg and Christine Dela Rosa were named to the all tournament team.

It was a great tournament and all the players made valuable contributions on the way to the team earning the championship.

Madison Pitts scored a team high 15 points for the Eagles in the 29-26 victory, and Amaris Clayton was named to the All-Tournament Team for her contributions during the four-day tournament.

The Junior Varsity Eagles basketball team traveled up to Merced to compete in an eight-team tournament this past weekend. The ladies dominated Atwater in their opening contest, winning easily 52-29. Their semi-final game against Modesto was a defensive battle in the first half. Leading by one point heading into the third quarter, the Eagles found themselves in a scoring drought, managing to hit only one free throw in seven minutes. Finding the range in the final quarter, the ladies fell a few baskets short, losing 24-37. In the Third Place game, Clovis West took on the host team Merced and played a near perfect half of basketball over the first 14 minutes. Jumping out to a large lead, the ladies held on down the stretch taking home the victory, 45-39.

Lauren Radtke led the team in scoring with 38 total points during the weekend. She hit five three-point baskets and scored a season high 18 points in the finally. Madison Pitts dropped in 28 points during the tournament and shot 61% from the free throw line. Amaris Clayton scored 28 points over the three games, while leading the team with 15 points in the tournament opener.
Congratulations to our freshmen girls for going 5-0 and winning the
Buchanan High Frosh tourney! The girls defeated Corcoran, Kingsburg, Fresno High, Lemoore, and Sanger on their way to the championship. This is the team's second tournament championship this season. Great job to the girls and Coach McAlister.
Congratulations to our girls playing on the Kastner 8th grade team and their second place finish at the Hanford West Tournament. The team defeated John Muir and Wooodrow Wilson on their way to the championship game. Great job to the girls and Coach Caeton.
The team played in the Reyburn Tournament and by defeating Clark, Alta Sierra, MLK, and Reyburn earned a 4 win and 0 loss record. The team averaged nearly 40 points per game while only allowing an average of 15 points per game. The tournament was highlighted with a 1 point win in a very competitive game against Alta Sierra. From a fan's point of view, these two teams played one of the best intermediate school basketball games in recent memory. Congratulations to Coach Crumpton-Murray and the players.
