Troy Cougars Girls Team

Yes, the title is correct The Troy Cougars Club has a girls’ team.   Jayme Bates (Director), had a vision this year and it was too branch out the club and try to build a girls program and why not?  Girls’ basketball has come a long way over the years.   He decided to start slow and just have a 16U girls’ team.  He started by setting sometimes aside in the gym to have tryouts.  He set some dates up for early February not knowing how many girls would actually come out for the team.   At the first tryout there were five girls.  The second tryout brought two more girls bring it to seven. After the tryouts it was not looking promising that he would have enough players to form a team.  Jayme did not give up, he went out scooting for coaches and found two Coaches Zysnia Osepa from (Emma Willard, JV basketball coach) and Brian Linger.    Then he went on the hunt for more girls for the team.  He was able to recruit ten girls for this new team.  The work was just beginning two new coaches and ten new girls that have never played together.    Jayme then turned it over to Zysnia Osepa and Brian Linger.    Coach Z and Brian started scheduling practice but only a handful of girls could attend the different practice times because of their school commitments to other sports teams.  There were times Coach Z was lucky to get four to five at a practice at a time.    She still remained strong and committed. She reached out by email and text messaging so all the girls knew what was going on with the team at all times. .  She emailed the girls game plays so they could learn them before going to the tournaments.  She schedule a team bonding night at snowman in Troy so the girls could get together as a group before their first tournament.  Well all that hard work paid off this weekend with a 1^st Place win in the War on the Floors tournament. Congratulations to the new Girls Troy Cougars team and their coaches.

16U Girls Team competed in two tournaments one being on April 23^rd-24^th 2016 (NEF Spring Flying) where the team went 1-3 this was a hard fought tournament with the Cougars facing off with Berkshire Blazers, Newburgh Panthers and Saratoga Bomanites. The second tournament being on April 30^th - May 1^st 2016 Fame Games (Kingston, NY) the team went 1-1 facing the Saratoga Bomanites and the Lady Lions both games were hard fought games with the first game going into 2 overtimes with the Cougars pulling out the win.  The second game was back and forth the whole game being tied several different times with the Cougars losing their lead and being defeated by 7.  Congratulations for your hard work ladies.  The Ladies will play next in Carolina Classic in Troy/Albany, NY
