Powerhouse 2011 16U - Players Choice Holiday Tournament Champions !!!...Results
The day started out slow and sour, as they could only muster up one run in the regulation 7 innings of the first game...but it was enough to send the game into the international tiebreaker inning thanks to a game-saving, 7th inning, 2-out, force-out throw from Raissa Reynolds in center field to 1st base...with a runner at third about to score. Then in the top of the extra inning, a couple of shots from Raissa Reynolds and DJ Garceau were enough force two errors and score Allison Weisnicht and Raissa for a two-run lead. In the bottom of the inning, an amazing double play and strikeout ended Preble's attempt after only two batters.
Unfortunately, Taylor Gutzman was injured in the top of the eighth and could not finish off her NO-Hitter, Complete Game, after seven innings. Lauren Janssen was able to come in and finish off their only 2 batters. The injury also meant that the team had to play with only eight players for the rest of the day.
In the second game, Powerhouse mercy-ruled the Lakeshore Rise 10-0 after six innings. DJ Garceau was 5 for 5 with 4 RBIs that game. Raissa Reynolds was 2 for 5 with the game's only double, and Ashley Baker, Lauren Janssen and Allison Weisnicht each had 2 hits, also.
In game 3 against Menasha, Powerhouse also mercy-ruled them, but in 5 innings. Melanie Leopold was 3 for 3, Ashley Baker was 3 for 4, and Nicole Sharon, Hannah Long & DJ Garceau all had 2 hits each. Mel and Ashley also had 5 stolen bases between them.
For game 4, Powerhouse was in for some stiff competition against the Player's Choice All-Star team. That team comprised of a few seniors that are already signed to play college ball next year and a few other notable juniors and sophomores from the area. Lauren Janssen was about to start her third complete game in a row and the day was getting long. Fortunately, Powerhouse got off to a fast start offensively by scoring a run in the first inning via a couple of walks by Raissa and DJ, a textbook sacrifice bunt by Mel Leopold, and a nicely timed single by Hannah Long, to bring home the run. Then in the second, Powerhouse got on the board again after another lead off walk by Lauren Janssen and a timely hit by DJ. After that, if was all about grinding it out and digging deep within all of the players,...and they responded with some great outs by both the infielders and outfielders, only allowing the one run in the sixth inning.
For the day, DJ Garceau hit 9 for 15 (.600) and Lauren Janssen pitched 19 innings of 10-hit, 1-run ball. What a great day by everyone!!!
Recap:
Game 1: Win 3-1 vs. Green Bay Preble
Game 2: Win 10-0 vs. Lakeshore Rise
Game 3: Win 10-0 vs Menasha

Powerhouse 2011 16U - Results from the Sparks Pumpkin Fest College Showcase
October 18, 2010
The 2010 Powerhouse 16U team traveled to the Elgin, IL Sportsplex this weekend (Oct. 16 & 17) to compete in the Sparks Pumpkin Fest IV College Showcase Event.
Game #1 on Saturday against the Northern Storm resulted in a 6-1 WIN. Raissa Reynolds was the game MVP with two solid, RBI-producing singles in the 1st and 2nd innings. Morgan Sarter led off the game with a Triple and both DJ Garceau and Ali Bauer had solid, RBI-producing Doubles.
Game #2 on Saturday against the Lemont Rockers resulted in a 5-0 Loss. Morgan Sarter was the game MVP with her stellar play at shortstop and had one hit. Ashley Baker also had a hit in the game.
Game #3 on Sunday against the Roselle Rampage resulted in a 4-3 WIN. Ashley Baker was chosen as the game MVP by the Rampage because of her play behind the plate with a diving grab of a short foul ball and a pick off on a throwdown to 2nd. DJ Garceau and Raissa Reynolds both had solid Doubles in the game and Nicole Sharon had two Singles. Christine Sharon had a clutch two-run Single in the 5th inning to give us back the lead for good.
Game #4 on Sunday against the Sauganash Storm resulted in a 4-2 WIN. Ali Bauer was the game MVP with her 2-run Double in the 1st inning. Four bean balls on our hitters and a line shot back off of Lefty's thigh later, we completed the game victorious for our third of the weekend.
All in all, it was a very successful and gutsy weekend for the team considering the multitude of injuries and lack of practice time we've had since August. It should be a sign of good things to come for all of the players next season.
