2019 Season Recap and State Tournament Results

A big congratulations on what was the most successful folkstyle season in the history of the Chaparral Wrestling Club!!

Our team members (and their parents) have put in countless hours in the wrestling room, competing in dual meets and tournaments, and for many, travelling across the country competing at National tournaments against some of the best competition the U.S. has to offer. This was done with one goal in mind ----- to get better each and every day! There is not a single wrestler in our club who didn't achieve this goal and who isn't better today than they were yesterday. So please take a moment to reflect on the season, your accomplishments and all the blood, sweat and tears you poured into achieving your goals this season. Take a moment to congratulate yourselves for participating in the toughest sport around and for pushing your mind and body to places you never imagined.

More important than winning trophies, medals and belts, we came together and bonded as teammates. We created friendships that will stand the test of time. We developed friendly rivalries and a support network. Those teammates and parents who were the first to congratulate you in victory and the first to console you in defeat. Those that sat mat side cheering you on, either coming hours early to watch or staying hours late to offer their support. They didn’t walk away when they were done wrestling – they stayed for you. Why? Because they believed in you and they understood the value and importance of supporting their teammate and their friends. They knew the sacrifices you made all season long to get to this point. This is why we wrestle. This why we push ourselves and demand so much from ourselves in this sport. This is why the bonds created by wrestlers are like no other sport. Those who do not wrestle will never understand this. For having the courage to be a wrestler – you have our utmost respect.

While we look forward to what the off-season holds for us, we also want to reflect on what we accomplished throughout the year and at the 2020 Colorado State Youth Tournament. More important than individual results are what we were able to accomplish as a team. We finished the 2019-20 folkstyle season in 5th place at the 2020 Colorado State Youth Tournament in both the regular and rookie divisions.

  • We had 20 individual state placers
  • We scored the 2nd most points per wrestler out of 128 teams
  • We had the 3rd most combined team points out of any club in the state

We did all of this with only about half of our club kids competing!!

Congratulations to all the wrestlers who put their toe on the line this year! But please help us give a special round of congratulations to the following 2020 state placers:
