June 18, 2012

Union was extremely well represented at the 2012 Jersey Area Girls Soccer (“JAGS”) Tournament, which is one of New Jersey’s most prestigious soccer tournaments for girls’ soccer.  The tournament was held on June 16th and 17th.  This year’s tournament, featured teams from the Tri-State area, as well as, Pennsylvania, Massachusetts, Delaware, Maryland and Virginia.  In attendance, were coaches from 46 College and Universities from around the area.

Union’s Storm showcased their offensive skills, by starting strong in the opening game and defeating the Toms River FC Hotspur (NJ) by a score of 4-2.  The game played at The College of New Jersey (TCNJ), featured a great display of two and three touch passing by the Storm players.  In the second game, the Storm faced the Pennsylvania Rush Nike (PAE).  In this game, ths Storm displayed tactical disciple and a lethal counterattack as they defeated their opponent 2-0.  In the final game of the qualifying round, the Storm played the Watchung Hills Spirit (NJ).  Overall the match was very well played, where Watchung constantly pressured the Storm’s defensive backs and keeper, leading to a final of 0-0.  Overall the results earned the Storm a division title and an opportunity to advance to the title game against the Penn Legacy (PAE), who was the undefeated winner of the other division. In the championship game both teams showcased respect for one another as the game was played in the midfield for the most part of the opening minutes.   However as the summer heat increased, so did the intensity of the game as both teams showcased strong organized attacks only to lead to solid defensive performances.  At the end of the 1H, the score was 0-0.  However, the Storm struck the only goal of the game in minute 52, as the ball was won in the midfield, which lead to a left run that eventually lead to the ball in the net.

Congratulations Storm!!!!
