Let's get this roster finalized and prepare to kick some booty!

We're shooting for a final practice sometime this weekend, so we'll be in touch.

28+ CFMSBL MARLINS REPRESENT! HEAD TO SEMI'S!!...........

January 16, 2010

Jay Laub's gutsy performance earns Marlins a playoff spot. The battle of sea creatures begins at 10am Sunday morning! Orlando Marlins @ Pinellas Piranhas.

Astros ace Jay Laub went the distance, surrendering 2 unearned runs on 8 hits and 4 walks while striking out 8.
Laub certainly pitched well enough to win, but the Marlin's offense struggled and the Florida Yankees (2-0-1)took advantage of 2 Marlin miscues to tie the Fish. Both teams will advance to the dance, and have their work cut out for them.

In Game 1 Friday night, it was the Lugnut's Matt Stevens who shined, cruising through 6 2/3rds without surrendering a hit and giving the Marlins there only win of the tourney.
Stevens earned player of the game honors in game 1, while Josh Montero and Cory Huston earn POG's for game 2 in a losing effort. Both were 2 for 4 with Montero driving in a run.

Game 3 is the obvious choice as Jay Laub more than earned his POG.

Titan masher Jim Matoska joins the Fish Sunday morning, bringing a little shot in the arm the offense needs.

MARLINS SCRAMBLING TO SURE UP PITCHING STAFF, AS SEASON BEGINS IN 2 WEEKS.......

January 24, 2010

With just two weeks until opening day, the Orlando Marlins find themselves scrambling for some pitching after long time starter Jimmy Grove's arm maybe lost for the season.

"It wasn't feeling 100% since the fall season, and I think that tourney last week may have done me in." said Groves.

It is a huge blow to an already thin pitching staff, as the Fish are left with two starters and a thin bullpen for a long 24 game spring season.

"We're working into the night" said Marlin's GM Josh Montero. "We don't have alot of time."

The season begins in two weeks, so get your dues in before next weekend!
This year's fee is down 20 bucks, to $220.00. Please pay via pay pal, a check to Brian (address is on league site) or get it to me and I will send to him.

We will, in all probablity, be playing Joe Mahon's Yankees in a scrimmage game next weekend for our final tune up.

Will be in touch.

MARLIN'S FARM SYSTEM IN FULL SWING.........

January 28, 2010

Marlin's Farmhand 2B Annabella Musumeci (shown above), is just one of the many bright spots this organization is looking forward to.

In her second season, Musumeci has improved dramatically after making the change from Oviedo Little League T-Ball Orioles to Oviedo Babe Ruth T-Ball Reds.
Although she flirted with retirement on several occasions this off season, ala Brett Favre, she has committed to the 2010 spring season. Dad and the Oviedo Reds are thrilled.

Off the field, Musumeci is excelling in her VPK class and her love of animals has her thinking about a career in Veterinary medicine.
She is a rabid Scooby Doo and Shark Week fan and is currently in the middle of a huge My Little Pony collection.

It's players like her that has the Marlin's future looking bright.

MARLINS NOT SO SHARP IN 8-2 LOSS TO 18+ YANKS.....

February 1, 2010

The 2010 Marlins hit the field on Sunday morning with just enough to field a team and came away with a loss.

"There was a lot of rust out there on the field" said Marlin's head trainer, Luigi DeMartino about his players.

The Marlins had a player or two out of position, but the old ball coach filled in pretty nicely at 2B in the last 2 innings.

The Fish are trying to get one last scrimmage together this Sunday for some fine tuning.
Season should be starting shortly. Please get your dues in if you haven't already. I don't want anyone left out opening day.

IN OTHER NEWS......

...........P/1B Larry Hingle underwent successful tongue surgery last week, after trying to take a lick of an icicle on a freezing cold morning early last month (shown above).

"I saw him squatting down and I knew what he was going to do" said teammate Josh Montero. "I said , 'Don't do it!!' He said, "Doin it".
Seconds later the ambulance was called and Hingle was on his way to the hospital.

"He lost some tongue surface when he tried to pull away from the icicle, but I think we were able to save the taste buds" said Dr. Lipschitz.

Hingle is not expected to miss the start of the season.

FIG'S ADDED TO STAR-STUDDED ROSTER, FIRST 2 GAMES POSTED..................

February 12, 2010

The Orlando Marlins have added to their loaded roster with big lefty Matt DeFiglio.
Figs was expected to return to the 18+ after his fall debut with the Fish, but has decided to stay put and help the Marlins in their quest for greatness.

"Thats huge!" said GM and 1B Josh Montero. "Looking forward to having him back in Teal and Black...AND the lineup!"

The Fish are elated to have him back. Welcome back Figs!!

The first two games have been released;
Sunday 2/21 at the Indians and Sunday 2/28 vs. our old pals in the Brewers.

February 19, 2010

With the bulk of the team returning and the addition of a few new huge pick ups, the Fish are hoping to enjoy one of, if not there best season in there existance.

Game time is 7pm, so be out there by 6:30pm at least!

We will be wearing our new grey uni's. For the few of you who don't have them yet, we'll have some black jerseys for you to sport.

MARLINS WIN WILD AND UGLY OPENER, 14-10.............

February 21, 2010
**

The Marlins would like to extend their condolences to the Bono family. Our hearts go out to Mickey and his family for the loss of his 5 year old niece. God bless her and your family Mick.

“Opening day jitters” are being used to describe the Orlando Marlins performance in their 2010 opener.

The Marlins (1-0) stumbled out of the gate last Sunday, as they fell behind the Tribe early and trailed 8-2 after 6.
Indian’s skipper Doug Elliott had his team fired up and ready to play ball, as he usually does, and drew first blood with a 3 run 2nd. The tribe’s starter Brian English held down the potent Marlin lineup through six innings, but the sleeping giant that is the Marlin offense awoke in the 7th and plated 12 runs in the final three frames for the come-from-behind win.
Defensively, the Fish kicked the ball around to a tune of 11 errors, allowing 8 unearned runs, but the 14 runs scored were good enough to hold off the never give up Indians.

Marlin’s starting pitcher Jeff Francher looked quite strong considering it was the first time picking up a baseball since the fall season. Francher went 3 innings while surrendering 1 ER on 4 hits, while striking out 4.
Newest Marlin hurler Kevin Gallaher also looked strong after not throwing a pitch since last spring. Gally also went 3 innings and struck out 4 without surrendering an earned run.
The pitch by committee night continued with lefty Steven Tolbert getting his first work in awhile, throwing an affective inning, while Marlin’s closer Mickey Bono closed out the final 2 for the win.

The Fish got a good look at two of their new power sticks in EH Chris Westervelt and former Black Sox catcher, Brent Spooner.
Spooner went 1 for 3 with a ribbie and 2 walks and looks to be as advertised as one of the top catchers in the league.

Westervelt contributed nicely to his new ballclub, going 1 for 4, with 2 RBI’s and a walk, while rocketing several fouls that were clearly deep enough to clear the OF fences had they been fair. It’s not a matter of IF he’ll jack a few out this season, it’s WHEN!
Welcome aboard guys! Nice to have you with us!!

Marlin's new lead-off man Jason Black also played well, going 2 for 4 with 2 walks and a SB. The Marlins are anticipating a great season and alot of swipes from their newest set of wheels!

The Hingle-Erickson Construction Player of the Game award (say that three times fast!) goes to DJ Jazzy Mick for his great defense at SS, his first win of the season, shutting down the Tribe for the final 2 innings and his 3 for 5, and RBI day!
Nice job Mick!!!

Next up for the Fish are the Brewers, who knocked our beloved Marlins out of the playoffs this past fall. The series is tied 1-1 between these two giants, and Lawrence Hingle will try to pitch his team to a payback victory Sunday at 3:30pm.
Should be a great matchup! CFMSBL Game of the week!!!!

BREWERS HOLD ON FOR WIN..........

February 27, 2010

Wrap up and stats updated tonight, Thursday's game vs. Mets postponed....

MARLINS SQUANDER 11-2 LEAD, HOLD ON FOR 15-10 WIN IN BAKER'S DEBUT.......

March 8, 2010

“It’s never easy with these guys” a Marlin fan was overheard saying as they left the ballpark Sunday night.
Although this year’s version of the Marlins is, without question, the strongest, deepest and most talented squad ever assembled in their 6 year existence, it’s taking a little time to shake off the rust of a long off-season.

“Hey, the 2008 Red Sox team started 0-2-2, and rolled off 17 wins in their final 20 games en route to a 2nd championship” reminded one CFMSBL analyst.

The Marlins however, haven’t started off as poorly, but they’re play has some fans concerned. Marlin brass is not so alarmed.
“We’ll be fine. It’s only been three games for God’s sake!” said Marlin’s spokesperson Carlo Giambatta. “You friggin mama lukes wanna fry a guy if he makes a f&%$ing error! Relax!!”
After his comments, fans blasted the franchise and Giambatta was swiftly relieved of his duties as spokesperson and hasn’t been heard from since.

These instances were all a result of the Marlin’s most recent game vs. the Diamondbacks, where they built an 11-2 lead by the fifth inning, only to see it all but disappear and found themselves clinging to a 1 run lead in the 6th.

The Fish responded with 4 insurance runs in the top half of the inning, and Larry Hingle came on to close out the bottom half.

Marlin’s starter Jeff Francher cruised through 4 innings, mounting 7 K’s but got into a little trouble in the 5th where a fielder’s choice that couldn’t produce an out and a bases loaded misplayed fly ball plated 2 runs. After another batter, Kevin Gallaher came on in relief with a bases loaded and no out situation. Gally eventually put out the fire, but the fired up D-Backs plated 8 in the inning, making it an 11-10 ball game.

The Marlin’s offense bailed out the defense, pounding out 16 hits in 6 innings, good enough for 15 runs.
Some note worthy performances were C Craig Howell’s 2 for 3 night with a 3B, RBI and a SB, SS Mickey Bono, 3 for 4, 2B, RBI, OF Matt DeFiglio, 2 for 3, RBI, but stand out nights have to go to OF Tim Stahl, 3 for 4, 2 RBI’s and CFMSBL rookie, IF Will Baker in his first game with the Marlins, impressing his new teammates with a 2 for 4, 2B and 4 RBI night! Baker hit the ball with authority all night and is another dangerous stick in an already murderous lineup.

Stahl and Baker are your Hingle/Erickson Construction players of the game! Nice job guys!!!

Next up for the Fish are the Angels, Friday night at 7pm. On the hill making his first start in a Marlin’s uniform is the big guy, Kevin Gallaher, looking to move his team up in the standings of the black and blue Tim Marsh division.

Hope to see everyone at Johnny’s after the game to kick off the weekend!!

GO FISH!!!!

IN OTHER NEWS………….

Marlin’s fall 2009 Teal Slugger Cory Huston, who underwent shoulder surgery in January, is looking to return to the ballclub as early as March 21st.

In what was originally thought as season ending surgery, it now looks as if Huston will miss just 4 games of this young 2010 season!

“It is an incredible recovery” said Dr. Ira Finklestein, Marlin’s head physician. “This surgery can easily sideline a player for months. Huston has shown amazing progress and is just about ready for game action.”

Huston will be eased into the lineup and carefully placed defensively, in order to get him reps without sabotaging his recovery.

HUSTON, TIFT RETURN AS MARLINS EDGE REDS......

March 25, 2010

How many times have we seen it since just fall? A severely pull hamstring, shoulder injury which required surgery and now post-surgery, Cory Huston continues to be the warrior-like player the Marlins new he’d be.

After trying to leg out a would be inside the park homer last fall, Huston went down hard between 1st and 2nd base, even at one point trying to crawl to 2nd to at least put a runner in scoring position for his club. The Result; A return to the ball field the very next game just days after the hamstring injury.
After dealing with shoulder pain which would sideline the average player, Huston stayed off the D.L. and played a solid SS throughout the fall season, and then started the Marlin’s only playoff game on the hill, despite the pain. That incident put him on a fast track to surgery.

Now, just 9 weeks after major shoulder surgery, Huston returned to his team and contributed almost instantly.

The potentially devastating Marlin lineup had a quiet night, being held without a hit through 4 2/3rds by the Reds (3-3) starting pitcher, until Matt DeFiglio ripped a shot into right field with the game tied and runners on first and second.
With the game tied at 4 a piece, it looked like the Marlin’s first hit would produce the go ahead run, but the Reds right-fielder, making a great play, gunned down Larry Hingle trying to score from 2nd.

On to the 6th and still tied, Marlin’s starter Kevin Gallaher ripped a single, followed by a Will Baker single.
Up stepped Huston, who was still trying to get his timing back after striking out his first two at bats.
With first and second and nobody out, 3rd base coach and manager Rich Musumeci signaled for a bunt. Huston instead swings and rips a single into center scoring Gallaher for the game winning RBI.

The Marlins were helped out by their defense as well, recording just 1 error, and the pitching performance churned out by Gally .
Gallaher went the distance, surrendering 3 ER on 7 hits and 2 walks while striking out 8 en-route to his first win as a Marlin.

But the Hingle-Erickson player of the game is Cory Huston for coming back so soon and his game winning RBI.

Next up for the Marlin are the Astros (2-3-1) at high noon Sunday. Jeff Francher (1-0, 6.75 ERA) gets the nod for his 3rd start of this young season.

TIFT RETURNS........

The Marlin's bullpen received some good news Thursday, as LHP Jeff Tift re-joined the ballclub.

"It was a sticky situation" said Marlin's GM Josh Montero. "We wanted Jeff, Jeff wanted to be here, we just couldn't come to an agreemant on some terms until late Wednesday night."

Montero was up deep into the night trying to finish the deal with Tift's agent, Sid Feinstein.

In a post-game interview, the hard throwing Tift stated he was "glad to be back and excited to be part of a great organization again."

Welcome back Jeff!!

FRANCHER DOMINATES IN MARLIN'S WIN OVER ASTROS...

March 28, 2010

Jeff Francher looked like the pre-injury version in the game against the Astros, as he hurled his first CG shut out since his elbow surgery, as he surrendered just 3 hits and one walk while striking out 8.

Some good offensive performances from 2B Jason Black, P Larry Hingle and Utility Cory Huston as they all went 2 for 4 with three RBI's between them, but this day belonged to Francher who was the "no-brainer" for the Hingle-Erickson Construction player of the game.

Great Job Jeff!!!

MARLINS NET BICHETTE, HINGLE TOPS TITANS.........

March 31, 2010

The Marlins beat Titans for first time since their championship run in the fall 07, with a brilliant pitching performance from staff ace Larry Hingle. Hingle held the defending champs in check for 7 and 2/3rds, surrendering 3 runs (1 earned) on 9 hits and a walk while fanning 8.

Newest Marlin Dante Bichette came in for the final 4 outs, and is a welcome addition to the ballclub.

C Brent Spooner had a field day, harrassing Titan's pitchers Frank Shaw and flame throwing Chris Brock, going 3 for 4 with 3 RBI's a 2B and a SB.

Marlin's leadoff man Jason Black stayed hot, with 2 hits and as many RBI's.
Hingle shares his own award with Spoons as both contributed mightily to the Marlin's victory.

MARLINS GET RIGHT BACK TO IT WITH 4 GAMES IN A WEEK...........

April 17, 2010

Your 2010 Orlando Marlins return from their 2 week hiatus to take on the 38+ Red Sox (2-3-1) today, and a showdown with the first place Dodgers (7-0-1) on Tuesday night, first game scheduled as part of the restack for second half, followed by double header next Sunday beginning at 3:30pm vs. the Braves (4-5) and at 7pm vs. the much improved Pirates (4-4).

The Fish have a chance to take the division lead with a couple of wins this week, but it won't be a walk in the park.
The Dodgers have improved an already post-season-ready club dramatically, with the additions of some former Baron's players and former Cub's #1 starter, P Jared Bahnsen.

The two Tim Marsh division giants will square off again just a couple of weeks from now, so the winner won't have too much time to gloat.

C'mon out and catch your Marlins!....But you'll have to scalp some tix, cause all games are sold out!

GO FISH!!!

MARLINS A BIT STIFF AFTER 3 WEEK BREAK...

April 18, 2010

The post-surgery Jeff Francher is looking more and more like the pre-surgery version that helped the 04 Yankees to a championship.

With every start he seems to be gaining more confidence and velocity.
This week's victim was the South Lake Red Sox.

Francher retired the Sox in order 4 of the 6 innings he pitched. The complete game was his second in a row, albeit a shortened version, but there is no doubt he could have gone further, as his pitch count was very low.
The veteran starter surrendered just 1 unearned run, 1 hit and 4 walks en route to his 3rd win of the season.

The Marlin's offense once again took a few innings to awaken, as they were held hitless through 5.
With the game tied at 1 a piece and set to be called after the sixth, the Fish went to work and plated 7 runs with some key hits, a few walks and a HBP.
OF Matt DeFiglio drove in the game winner on a base hit to right, after a Hingle single and a Westervelt ROE.

The Hingle-Erickson player of the game goes to Francher once again, for his second straight dominating CG, despite the slippery conditions. Keep it up brother!!!

Defensively, the Marlins were sound, save the one error in the 2nd, but the intensity just wasn't there, most likely due to the combination of the constant rain and the 3 week layoff.

Look for the Fish to snap out of it Tuesday night, as they take on the first place Dodgers. On the bump for the good guys will be Larry Hingle, 1-1 3.07 ERA

MARLINS TAKE DIVISION LEAD WITH WIN OVER DODGERS, 5-3.........

April 20, 2010

Your 2010 Orlando Marlins (7-1) are on the move! With a victory over the Dodgers(8-1-1), the Marlins are now the Tim Marsh division leaders.

Before the win, the Marlins had enjoyed a 9-4 series advantage over the Dodgers since their inception in 2005.
“I don’t know what it is” said team spokesperson, Angelo Baggarazzi. “We seemed to have their number over the years, no matter who they throw.”

This time it was former Cub’s ace Jared Bahnsen who felt the sting of a Marlin defeat.

Bahnsen, who was signed during the offseason, was up for the challenge and was throwing hard early, as he kept the Fish off the board until a Larry Hingle bomb to right-center in the 4th.
The Fish added 3 more in the 5th after a few walks and key hits by Brent Spooner and Cory Huston, which put the Marlins up for good.

Hingle, who started the game for the Fish, had everything working for him, including his “Linda Ronstadt fastball”, fanning 12 Dodgers in 8 innings of work.
Kevin Gallaher, looking for some work off the hill before his next start on Sunday, came in the 9th to close it out for the save, striking out 2 himself while surrendering a harmless unearned run.

The Hingle Erickson Construction Player of the game goes to Hingle once again, and Brent Spooner, who was 2 for 4 with 2 RBI’s and for sacrificing his face when diving into home head first in the 8th for an insurance run.
There was lots of blood and profanity, but Spoons is expected to recover and be back on the field soon.

The Fish look to defend their lead when they take on the Braves Sunday at 3:30pm and the Pirates at 7pm, for a mid season twin bill.
Taking the rock in game one; Kevin Gallaher 1-0, 2.08 ERA and Jeff Francher 3-0, 2.35 ERA, will be looking for win number 4 on the season in game 2 vs. the Bucs!

SEE YA SUNDAY!

MARLINS TOP BUCS IN SWELTERING HEAT, FRANCHER PICKS UP HIS 4TH WIN OF SEASON.........

May 8, 2010

As the summer draws closer, the mid day games get tougher to play, and deeper rosters start to come in handy.
Of course, the bodies on the roster have to actually show up to be of use.

The Marlins (10-2) took on the Pirates (4-9) in a brutally hot day, Saturday.
Manned with just 11 players of there 19 man roster, the Fish were able to pull out the win over a rebuilding Pirate squad, who only had 9 to start with themselves.

Marlin's starter Kevin Gallaher took the hill and looked pretty good the first 3 innings, but the heat seemed to get to him in the 4th, when he walked the first three batters.

With a wealth of arms to go to in relief, the Fish called upon #16, Jeff Francher who's having his best season since his elbow surgery a few years ago.
Up 3-1, Francher came in with bases loaded and no one out and got out of the inning with minimal damage, 2 runs.
For the remainder of the game, the Bucs would only see 4 more base runners as Francher allowed just 3 hits in 4 innings, improving his ERA to 2.59 and a team leading 4 wins.

Jeff Tift came on in the final inning for some work and was his usual nasty self, retiring the side in order.

Offensively, Utility Cory Huston was his usual RBI machine-self, driving in 3 on the day, with 2 coming off a nice shot through the hole between SS and 3rd, good enough for a double.

Larry Hingle had an RBI double of his own, and Black, Bono and Montero added 2 hits a piece.

Special thanks to Mickey Bono and Chris Westervelt for stepping up and splitting the game behind the plate, with both starting catchers and their back up unable to make the game.
The Hingle Erickson construction playerS of the game go to Bono and Westy. Great job back there guys!

Up next for the Marlins are the ALWAYS dangerous Orlando Indians (9-6-1) Tuesday night at 7pm.
The Fish should have closer to a full squad than they had today and they are going to need it.

On the bump for the Fish will be lefty Larry Hingle, 2-2 3.67 ERA.

GO FISH!!!

BONO HOMERS IN HEARTBREAKING LOSS TO TRIBE.......

May 14, 2010

The Marlins fell to 10-3 Tuesday night, as they made an already tight division race even tighter, with the Lugnuts quickly climbing up the standings.

Bono hit a solo shot to right on an inside fastball from former teammate, Tony Burnham, helping the Fish to a 5-0 lead, but Bernie clamped down the rest of the way giving his team a chance to come back.

The Marlin's bullpen could not close out an elusive 3rd win for starter Larry Hingle, who pitched a solid game. But give the Indians credit, they kept it close and got the key hits when they needed them.

1B Josh Montero led the offensive charge with 2 hits and 3 RBI's, earning the Hingle-Erickson Construction player of the game honors.

The Fish get back at it Sunday night when they take on the hungry Yankees (8-8). It's a big game the Marlins must win to hold on to a slim Tim Marsh division lead.

On the bump for the Teal and Black is the red hot Jeff Francher 4-0, 2.59.

LET'S GO BOYS!!! LET'S TURN THESE HIGH AVERAGES INTO SOME RUNS!!!
GO FISH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

IN OTHER NEWS.....

Marlin's slugger Josh Montero needs just one more hit to be the all time team hits leader. Montero is currently tied with former Marlin turned Brewer, Joe Del Valle at 124 a piece.

He is also within 20 RBI's of current team leader Darrin Reichle at 84. Although almost guaranteed to take the hits category within the next game or two, he would have to have an incredible amount of fortune to grab 21 RBI in the remaining 9 plus games. That record may have to wait until next season.

Montero already owns; Runs scored (90), triples (8), HR's (4) and stolen bases (64).

There is a belief, especially in the sports world, that you can "jinx" a player or a team.

ie; "This guy's throwing a no-hitter!" Or, "This kicker hasn't missed a field goal in 2 years!"
We all know the results of these statements.

For this reason, the Marlin's organization would like to REMIND everyone;, The Lugnuts have NEVER LOST to the Marlins in their existance.
This game is in the bag for the Nutters. They will win out and take the division and a first round bye!

The Marlins will head into the post-season with their tail between their legs, as a late season slump, injuries and the absence of key players took its toll.
The Fish slipped to 3rd seed today, and depending on outcome of Sunday's game vs. the Rays, could be as low as 4th.

Defensively, the Marlins were pretty solid, but they could not overcome the outstanding pitching of the Reds new ace, LHP Ben Kozlowski. Koz struck out 14 through 6 innings of work, without surrendering a hit.

Save a 9th inning attempted comeback by the Fish, they were completely shut down.

Down 5-0 with 3 baserunners the whole day, the Marlins put together a couple of hits and scraped three across the plate. With first and third and two out, SS Mickey Bono represented the winning run, but Red's reliever Brian Tyndall got him to ground out to Red's skipper and league commish, Brian Blevins who put the final nail in the coffin.

The Fish must now save their pitching as they prepare for a first round, one game playoff Thursday night.

A HUGE thanks to Jason Taddie for coming back for the final two games and helping us out! Nice job behind the dish today!!
Taddie is the Hingle-Erickson Construction player of the game!!

Stats and directions to field for tomorrow, later tonight.

A NEW SEASON!!.............

June 5, 2010

IT'S POST-SEASON TIME!!!

First round of playoffs begin Thursday night at 7pm. in a single game elimination. The Marlins (13-5) drew a tough one as they'll be hosting the Indians (14-7-1) on field 2.

The Tribe always plays the Marlins well and they have a strong core of guys that can bring it. The Fish will have their hands full as will the Indians. Should be a good one!

The winner of this battle has the daunting task of taking on either the Brewers or Lugnuts in a best of three in round two.

It's Hingle on the Hill for the Teal and Black! Bring out the thunder sticks and cheer on your Marlins!

GO FISH!!!!!!!!!!

MARLINS ADVANCE TO SECOND ROUND WITH WIN OVER TRIBE........

June 11, 2010

The Marlins defeated the Indians 10-3 behind strong pitching, great defense and an 8 run 6th inning, earning a date with the Lugnuts in the second round. (wrap-up Friday night).

The Hingle-Erickson players of the game are Jason Black; 2-4, 2 runs, RBI, 4 SB's, Cory Huston; 3-5, 2 runs, 3B, 2 RBI's, SB and Larry Hingle himself; 7 IP, 2 ER, 8 K's

The Fish will put their 0-8 record against the Nutters on the line, as they try to take another step closer to a coveted spring championship.

MARLINS BLOW BRILLIANT START BY FRANCHER, DOWN 1-0 IN SERIES.........

June 13, 2010

The Marlins find themselves in a hole after losing 2-1 to Lugnuts, again. Francher was brilliant through 7 2/3rds, but the offense sputtered again, in part to the dominant pitching by Nutter's starter Brad Weis.

The hard throwing lefty is a neutralizer to this lefty-heavy squad, but the Fish aren't about to jump out of the water and hand the Nutters a trip to the championship. The Slugnuts will have their hands full Tuesday, AND (dare I say this) THURSDAY night!!!

Great job today Marlins!! Let's keep our heads up and stay positive!

Stats later today. Francher is the Hingle-Erickson Construction player of the game!!!

See you Tuesday night!

GO FISH!!!!

FINALLY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

June 15, 2010

The Marlins evened the series at one a piece Tuesday night, which made it the first time they have ever beaten the Lugnuts. It took the aid of 5 former Black Sox and 2 ex-Lugnuts to do it, but it's finally done!

After both squads worked on the field to get it into playing shape due to a late rain storm, the league deemed the field unplayable. The game was then changed to the more cozier, Hankins Park.

Nutters starter Matt Stevens was fired up for this one after some playful guestbook banter between the two squads. Hopped up on adrenaline and some funny looking green pills, he came out firing striking out 6 of the first 8 batters he faced, helping his team to jump out to a 5-0 lead.

The Fish stormed back in the 4th to tie it up at 5 a piece off 2 homers, a 3 bagger by C Craig Howell and a 2 run shot to center off the bat of Mickey Bono.

The Lugnuts went ahead 6-5 in the top of the 5th off Jimmy Groves who relieved Kevin Gallaher in the 3rd.

The Marlin's bats stayed awake in the bottom of the 5th and never looked back, as they plated 11 runs off 3 relievers, including another homer by Howell (2) and ending in a walk-off walk by former Lugnut, Matt DeFiglio scoring Richie Brower, who made his return to the team after a 6 week hiatus, for a final score of 16-6.

There are several candidates, but Howell is your Hingle-Erickson Construction player of the game!

Barring more rain, game 3 will be Thursday night at 7pm. Larry Hingle (1-0, 2.57)on the bump for the Marlins, but its all hands on deck as the Fish try to make it to their first spring championship series.

COME ON OUT AND MAKE SOME NOISE!!!

WELCOME BACK RICHIE!!!!!!!!!!

LUGNUTS END MARLIN'S SEASON WITH TWO 9th INNING WINS, 2010 MVP's NAMED............

June 20, 2010

The Lugnuts pulled off another 9th inning comeback to oust the Fish from a would be championship appearance.

A disappointing ending to what could have been a championship run, but the Marlins should hold their heads up as they had to overcome many obstacles over the course of the season.

Jeff Francher named season MVP, Craig Howell, Cory Huston take post-season MVP. Season wrap up and final stats this week.

MARLINS DROP PRESEASON OPENER, 6-1 TO DEFENDING CHAMPS, LUGO AND TEAGUE RETURN.............

August 15, 2010

The Marlins jumped right into the fire this fall pre-season, when they took on the defending champion Orlando Brewers Sunday morning.

Some of the fire power the Marlins enjoyed this past spring season is gone, but there were some familiar faces as the team welcomed back P/IF Perry Teague and Utility player Curtis Lugo, and invited out C Paul Lavoie to see where he was at in his rehab of his blown out ankle.

Spring MVP Jeff Francher started for the Fish, and was solid in his 3 innings of work, but was unfortunately tagged with the loss as Brewer pitching kept the Marlins off the board until the final frame, taking the game 6-1.

OF Steven Tolbert drove in the only Marlin run, and Montero, Musumeci, Pompa and Bono added a hit a piece, but it wasn't enough to keep toe to toe with the champs.

Recently signed P Yovannis Pompa, formerly of the Brewers and Barons, pitched well, but was harrassed by the hard hitting Brewer lineup. Teague, aka Joe Cool, picked up where he left off 2 years ago throwing a scoreless 7th and Tolbert, seeing his first action since early last spring, surrendered 2 runs, one off a dinger in the 8th (a fly ball at Jones).

Although the Marlins were without a couple of solid sticks today, they pretty much showed fans what to expect this fall season; Pretty decent pitching, solid defense and an offense that will struggle at times.
It is unknown at this point if the high price free agents of this past season will be back next season, but if not, new GM Mickey Bono has some work to do and is up to the challenge.

IN OTHER NEWS…………..

………P/3B Jimmy Groves wasn’t at the Marlins game against the Brewers today, instead he was seen working out with the Brevard County drug rehab team in Cocoa.
Groves put on a clinic in the drug infested city, obviously not with his hitting, and already had a street named after him off A1A.
Groves hopes to rejoin the team in its next workout.

………………………..2B Jason Black and his wife gave birth to a bouncing….err, make that sprinting baby boy. Jacob Black , born on July 16th, is rumored to be close to signing a deal with the Windermere junior varsity track team.
Congrats J.B.!!

........................The Marlins re-signed OF Will Bodie shortly after the close of the 2010 spring season. The speedy outfielder will join his fellow returning mates, Perry Teague and Curtis Lugo. Teague hit the D.L. with a torn ligament last year and Lugo returns after spending the last two season with the Brewers, helping them win 2 championships.

WELCOME BACK GENTLEMEN!!!

MARLINS, LUGO CANNOT SEAL THE DEAL. POMPA SIGNS WITH BRAVES........

August 21, 2010

C/Utility Curtis Lugo, P Yovannis Pompa and Marlin's new GM Mickey Bono could not agree on a deal, which sent the Marlin's front office scrambling just hours before the draft.

"We were extremely far apart with both guys." said Bono. "That's all I can say."

The Fish, who are in desperate need at the catcher position, thought they had the position pretty much taken care of with Lugo and Paul Lavoie working out with the team, but Lavoie, who looks to be headed back west to California, and Lugo who wanted more money than the Marlins were willing to spend, found themselves in panic mode.

Lugo has decided to sit the season out and Pompa has been rumored to have signed a lucrative deal with the Orlando Braves

Cooincidentally, the Marlins received a call from former player Gus D'Andrea's agent, shopping his services. D'Andrea, a versatile guy, can help at catcher as well as OF and 2B.
The Marlins were happy to welcome him back and the deal was made instantly.

Not happy with the depth at the position, owner/manager Rich Musumeci stepped in and reached out to another former player in Jorge Zepeda.

Zepeda was signed shortly after and will help boost the offense with his power.

A big welcome home to Gus and Jorge, see you on the field!!

MARLINS SIGN TWO MORE, SCRIMMAGES SET FOR SUNDAY AND WEDNESDAY............

August 28, 2010

The Orlando Marlins continued their active offseason, by signing big dog P/C/1B Jason Bailey and speedy OF John Monford, just about rounding out there fall roster.

Scrimmages set for Sunday morning at 10am vs. the Yankees and Wednesday night at 6:30pm vs. the Tainos, both at Jones H.S.

Please get your $130 league dues in this week so we can be included on schedule. Season is set to begin the week after Labor Day (2 weeks).

Also, the league will be doing some repair work to the fields (mound, batter's box, etc...) and are looking for a few volunteers to help out. With a bunh of guys, it won't take long at all.
Let's do our share and get these fields in better shape!

Let me know if you can help during the Labor Day weekend.

GO FISH!!!

YANKS TOP FISH 4-3 IN LAST INNING...........

August 29, 2010

Despite the loss, which obviously means nothing, the Marlins looked pretty good today, hitting the ball with authority and playing a solid defense.

Free agent rookies CF John Monford and P/1B Jason Bailey and first round draft pick and former Met Jordan Pagano, showed they are ready to contribute right away.

Monford, the speedy new leadoff man for the Marlins, struck out and reached on the dropped 3rd strike his first at bat, but came back in his second with a shot over the Yankees centerfielder's head for a stand up double, which if not for a twinge in his hammy, could have easily been a triple.
Monford also looked great in CF and seems to possess a pretty live arm.

Bailey started at first and finished up behind the dish and looks like he'll be a great help in those areas, as well as on the mound where he will see some action Wednesday night against the Tainos. Bailey was 2 for 3 offensively.

Pagano is extremely versitle and can play just about anywhere, but is expected to see most of his time at SS, replacing Mickey Bono who may be starting the season a little late.

Groves started and looked to be in mid season form, as he's been well ahead of the team in his off season work outs.
Groves surrendered just 1 hit and 2 BB's with a hit batter in 4 innings, while striking out 5.

Also getting some action on the hill was Larry Hingle, who will be tossing for his tournament team this fall but came out to get some work in.

If POG awards were given out for scrimmage games, it would have to go to 3B Will Baker, who was 2 for 2 with a 2B, 2 RBI and a HBP. Baker is also expected to get some mound work Wednesday.

Please remember to bring your league dues Wednesday or get them into Brian this week. We need to be paid up as a team before schedule is released.

FISH NIP TAINOS 6-5 IN WELL PLAYED GAME. REMATCH SET FOR WEDNESDAY......

September 3, 2010

The Fish pulled one out Wednesday night against the expansion Tainos, and will be facing them this Wednesday at 6:30pm at Jones for the final tune up before the start of the regular season.

Please bring $3 to cover field costs, and your $130 league fee if you haven't already done so.

Thanks!!

MARLINS PLAY IT CLOSE WITH NUTTERS THROUGH 3, SPANKED BY D-BACKS IN 5.........

September 17, 2010

The Orlando Marlins (0-1) fall victim to lightening storm Sunday and Orlando Diamondbacks (2-0) on Thursday.

Spring MVP Jeff Francher started both games for the Marlins, holding the high powered Lugnuts to one hit through the first three innings, but was harrassed by a revitalized and up and coming D-Back's squad.

The Marlin's defense was not the sharpest last night and the offense was even worse, as they could only muster up 4 hits off the young D-Back starter.

The Fish will regroup and take on the always tough Orlando Reds (1-0) next Thursday night at 7pm.

Stay up boys. Hit the cages, play solid D, have fun and the wins will come.

GO FISH!!!!

MARLINS BOUNCE BACK WITH TWO CLOSE WINS, VS. REDS AND BLAZERS. CREW UP NEXT!........

October 1, 2010

The Marlins improved to 2-1 with wins over the Reds and Blazers.

In the Reds game, Jimmy Groves made his first start of the young fall season and earned the win when the Fish broke a 2-2 tie in the 5th. RHP Jeff Francher came on in relief to close out the final 4 frames and earned the first save as a Marlin.

NY Life player of the game for this one is OF Stephen Tearpock, who could not get in a groove over the spring season, but seems to have his swagger back this fall. T-Pock was the difference with his 2 run double in the 2nd. He then later added a walk and a single.

The Blazers jumped out to a 5-1 lead after 2 innings Thursday night, as they and the Marlins defense, harrassed starter Steven Tolbert. In a fall season that will see alot of experimentation for the Marlins, T-Bert got the first start of his CFMSBL career. While he walked 5 batters in his 2 innings of work, he did look very good.
"He was pretty much right around the plate." said C Paul Lavoie.
"He just needs some reps on the hill."

T-Bert surrendered just 2 hits while striking out 2 and all 5 runs were deemed unearned.

The Marlins also got to take a look at their new toy Jordan Pagano. Pagano, a rookie with the Mets this past spring, re-entered the draft after the Met's contraction.
The Marlins, looking to add bodies to a roster full of holes, traded up to grab the #2 overall pick this fall in exchange for their spring pick, which will be sent to the Brewers.

Pagano impressed the Marlins with his defense and was primarily picked up to help out behind the dish where the Marlins were thin.

Pagano also pitches, so the Fish called him out of the pen to try and conserve their starters Groves and Francher for the big matchup Sunday against the Crew.
All he did was shut down the Blazers offense and gave his team a chance to chip away at the lead.
7 innings, 1 unearned run, 4 hits 2 BB's and 10 K's was the young Italian Stallion's line, earning him the win and the NY Life player of the game award.

OF John Montford and Utility Joe Mendoza drove in 2 runs a piece, and C Paul Lavoie continues to find his swing, going 2 for 3 with a 2B and a BB.

Shout out to IF Josh Montero for playing exceptional defense. Montero was expected to start at 3B, but was shifted to 1B last minute, then sent to replace Pagano at SS in the 3rd. Great job Joshie!!!

Way to bounce back guys!

Next up for the Marlins are some of their spring mates, the 4-0 Crew. The Fish will have their hands full, but hope to give the boys from Lakeland a competitive game.
Francher 0-1, 10.29 ERA gets the nod Sunday at noon!

MARLINS ROUGHED UP BY CREW, 11-1...........

October 3, 2010

Larry Hingle and the Crew (5-0) dismantled the Marlins (2-2) Sunday, behind exceptional pitching and a barrage of key hits.
Marlins defense was of no help either to starter Jeff Francher, who pitched his heart out.

Groves came on in relief, but the damage was done.

Tim Stahl, Stephen Tearpock and Steven Tolbert had a couple of good shots off the big left hander, but it was too little too late.

NY Life player of the game goes to Paul LaVoie, who after taking a shot off his lower leg in his first AB, pushed through the pain from the knot in his leg to return to the catcher position a couple of innings later.

Stats updated tonight.
Next game a week from Thursday, 10/14 when we host the Titans. Rest up and get ready for a mini marathon.

SHAW, TITANS HOLD ON FOR WIN......

October 16, 2010

T-POCK HOMERS TWICE, MARLINS BLOW 9-1 LEAD, FALL TO SOX, 12-11............

October 17, 2010

The Marlins (2-4)took a skeleton crew out to Minneola Sinday, to face the Red Sox who had a skeleton crew of their own.
Unfortunately for the Fish, one of the 9 had to leave early, and they'd begin to relinquish their 8 run lead.

Mickey Bono, back from his 5 game hold out, started on the hill for the Marlins and pitched a solid game, but the thin bullpen could not find the strike zone and surrendered 9 runs in the final 2 frames for their 4th loss of the season.

Post game wrap-up and stats Monday....

MARLINS DROP 6th STRAIGHT IN 2-1 LOSS TO TRIBE

November 6, 2010

In a season marred with injuries, the Marlins continue to give it their all as they drop a heartbreaker to the rival Indians.

Former Marlin P Tony Burnham, who has a bed waiting at Florida Hospital for his visit for shoulder surgery, pitched a gem, holding the Fish to 1 run on 2 hits through 8 innings.
"Bernie's velocity was NO where what it once was, do to his injury, but he still managed to shut down our offense. RIDICULOUS!!" joked Marlin's skipper Rich Musumeci.

Offensively, it has been as predicted by MSBL analysts, the Fish have had their struggles scoring runs.
Despite having baserunners and multiple runners in scoring position, the breaks and key hits just seem not to come.

The pitching staff hasn't been the team's strength as management thought it would be. The loss of Groves was a huge blow, and there just aren't as many uninjured arms to go to.

Marlin's starter Jeff Francher finds himself in a quite different situation than he had in the spring. There has not been as solid as defense behind him, nor has there been much of any run support.
Add the fact he has been asked to carry the load after fellow starter Jimmy Groves went down with a season ending shoulder injury.

The bullpen hasn't been the strength of this team as evident in a over 7.00 team ERA, though there have been some bright spots and encouraging outings to look forward to for the spring.

Speaking of encouraging, the Marlins, in there fall experiments, have uncovered a gem in now Utility player Tim Stahl. Stahl has been asked to play 3B and 2B in 3 games, and not only did he play well, he played like he's been playing those positions for years. Not just in routine plays, but tough plays he had to hustle for.
The Lumberjack has been beard and error free this fall!

Stahl has also moved up the lineup with his .400 avg, which ranks 2nd on the team as well as 2nd in RBI's.
Stahl's hustle on EVERY play has not gone unnoticed, receiving player of the game honors twice, and hundreds of "that-a-boys" from his teammates.

First round draft pick and former Met Jordan Pagano has also been a player the team can build on. "Jordan is a solid infielder and a heck of a pitcher" said Musumeci. "A big thanks goes out to the Brewers for trading their fall pick for our spring pick!"

Questions have risen regarding Musumeci selecting Pagano in this year's draft. Anti-Italian sentiment has surfaced as accusations that the was the only reason the Marlins selected Pagano. "Thats %$#@ing bull$*&+!!" said team spokesperson Carmine Raggazzi.

The Fish take on the Astros Sunday am. Taking the rock for his second start of the year and his career, will be Steven Tolbert.

Should be a good game against a great group of guys.

GO FISH!!!

MARLINS CAN'T HOLD ON, LOSE 5-4 IN BOTTOM OF THE 9TH.....

November 7, 2010

Astros top Fish with run in bottom of the ninth, La voie, Bono take co-player of the game honors. Stats updated a little later.

FRANCHER, LAVOIE AND STAHL TO REPRESENT FISH AT ALL STAR GAME........

November 20, 2010

The Orlando Marlins, coming off their worst season in franchise history at 2-9, will be sending P Jeff Francher, C Paul Lavoie and first alternate Utility Tim Stahl.

Although the season was a total bust, some Marlins did have great seasons.
The fall season was basically just to keep the pitchers loose and have a shorter break in period once spring training rolled around, but starter Jimmy Groves went down with a serious shoulder injury and Jeff Francher was forced to carry the bulk of the load. Despite the work load, defense issues and no run support, Franchie muddled through and turned out some great outings earning him another all star nod for the Fish.

C Paul Lavoie spent the last 2 years on the D.L. with a broken ankle. Although the ankle still wasn't 100%, the 45 year old veteran said enough is enough and got back on the field. Lavoie proceeded to rip the leather all season, finishing with a .476 avg and placing 2nd on the team in RBI with 5.
Lavoie had a good season defensively behind the plate as well, serving as the team's main catcher.

If your replacing IF/P Mickey Bono in the all star game, you have some very large shoes to fill (not literally. he actually has very small feet which equals a really small......well, you know).
Up to the task is first alternate utlility player Tim Stahl.

Stahl has paid his dues sitting and watching over the past 2 seasons, but this fall he made the best of his extensive playing time with the team and showed the Fish what they've been wasting on the bench.
Offensively, Stahl finished the season at .375 with 4 RBI, good for 3rd on the team, but what the Marlins were really amazed with was his ability to play the IF with authority.

Stahl started 2 games at 3B and played 2B a few games and finished error free.

Congrats to our all stars and hope to see everyone at Tinker field around noon!...

GO FISH!!!!

More on the future of the team coming soon!!!!
