Hey boys! I cannot wait to get out on the field. So much so, I am sitting here going through LeagueLineup web-sites all over the country just to read something fresh.
I came across this on a softball site (HA Softball!) and thought it was quite humerous. I converted it to baseball, thought you might enjoy it..........

Why Baseball Is Better Than Sex
You can play baseball as much or as little as you want;
YOU get to decide.

In baseball, the other team pays attention throughout, even if they're done scoring.

In baseball, nobody comments on the size of your bat, as long as you know what to do with it.

In baseball, you don't feel guilty when you win an ugly one.

In baseball, you don't have to compliment the other team on how good they look in their new uniforms.

You don't have to buy the other team dinner to get a game.

If you get all scratched up in a baseball game, you can brag about it to your wife.

In baseball, you can play the same team every day for a year and it's never the same twice.

You don't mind if your parents come to watch you play baseball.

You can play three, maybe four baseball games a day.

Playing the wrong baseball team won't get you shot.

During a baseball game you can spit sunflower seeds all over the place.

The other team doesn't demand that you shave before the game.

After an unusually long and difficult baseball game you can still ride your bike home.

The other team can smell like road kill and you'll never know it.

If you don't score in a baseball game, the other team doesn't ask you if you've had that problem often.

No matter how drunk the other team is they never throw up in your bed.

Baseball games usually last at least 60 minutes.

You can drink a 12 pack of beer and still swing your bat.

FISH MAKE UNEXPECTED ROSTER MOVES........

January 23, 2006
The Orlando Marlins filled some unexpected vacancies recently with the signing of free agent C/IF Doug Elliott and first pick in the 2006 spring draft IF/P Shawn Regan.

The Marlins learned late last week that SS Brian Joslin will be taking some time away from the game this coming season. “Work and other commitments would have kept me from quite a few games this season, and I didn’t want to hurt the team or my progress by missing every other game” said Joslin. He hasn’t ruled out a return possibly later in the season however. “Hopefully he’ll clear up that schedule and get back on the field” said manager Rich Musumeci.
The team denounced any rumors that there were contract issues, and that Joslin was “holding out” for a better deal.
In his thick Virginian accent, Player/Coach Jimmy Groves said, “Those dang rumors are horse#@*!. He just needs some time off, he’ll be back.”

Joslin’s timetable for his return is unknown at this point, so the team was forced to move on and secure some depth in the infield. They did just that with the signing of 37 year old free agent Doug Elliott. Elliott can play all infield positions as well as catch, and seems to possess a heck of a stick. Coach Groves, when learning of Elliott’s age said, “37?? This guy plays like he’s 20!! Does he have a brother?”
Elliott will serve as the team's # 3 catcher behind Stafford and Taddie, and float between SS and 3rd base.

Utility player Brian Hoover will also be taking some time off. Hoov's services will also be missed due to his versatility. Hoov has played first, second and third base for the Marlins, and also saw time in the outfield.

The 2006 spring tryout and draft, held at Tinker field this past Sunday, was surprisingly small. Only 8 ballplayers turned out, leaving some teams without a pick.
Despite the limited number of bodies, there was not a lack of talent there, and the Marlins feel they got the cream of the crop in young infielder/pitcher Shawn Regan. Regan has had a 6 year break from the game he loves, and is eager to get back into it and help the Marlins in anyway he can.
The 6 year absence from baseball was not evident, as he impressed many teams with his work off the mound, smooth mechanics on defense, and his quick bat speed. Speaking of speed, Regan should help the team on the base paths as well, as stolen bases were not one of the Marlin’s strengths in 2005.

The Marlin’s roster has not been finalized and although the remainder of the players from last season are expected to return, management won’t be counting their chickens until they are all in camp and signed.
With that in mind, the Marlins have been negotiating with free agent pitcher/first baseman Keith Beck and one or two other interested ball players.

IN OTHER NEWS......
..............The Marlins would like to thank Gus D’Andrea for generously purchasing a new catchers mask for the team. That’s being a team player Gustavo, thanks!!

..............First baseman Todd Teeter has been experiencing some pain in his surgically repaired elbow, which caused him to miss the last two practices. Teeter says he believes the elbow is OK. He is just trying to ease back into it.
Teeter was one of the four All Stars representing the Marlins in the 2005 All Star game, and is a big part of the Marlins blueprint for success. “We need him back in the lineup. I want him to baby that thing (elbow) and avoid any set backs” said Musumeci.

..............It was planned to play the Crew in Lakeland this coming Sunday for a scrimmage game, but it doesn't look good. We will be running our regularly scheduled practice (9:30am). The Orlando Knights of the 18+ league expressed interest in scrimmaging us, but that is uncertain due to the field conditions (temporary mound).

*******UPDATE******

The scrimmage with the Crew needs to be back on. I have been informed that they have already paid for the field. Please let me know as soon as possible if you can make it. Need to get a head count.
Thanks!!

Please remember to bring your $$ to this Sundays practice.

MAN-CHILD UMPIRES GET REVENGE, MARLINS DROP OPENER 5-4..........

February 12, 2006
The Orlando Marlins, after high hopes of beginning this 2006 campaign hot, were edged out by the A's 5-4. The team played extremely well, suffering only one error but that error led to 2 runs and the loss. Although, a 4 run lead is difficult to turn into a win when your pitching staff is still a bit rusty from the off-season.

The game started out with 2 umpires with chips on their shoulders stemming back from last fall season's ban from doing Marlins games, getting their revenge on Marlin's manager Rich Musumeci.
Last fall these umpires were instructed not to work Marlin's games due to their unprofessional conduct (umpiring while intoxicated and swearing at Marlin's players in front of 5 year olds).

Today the league wanted to start on a clean slate between these umps and the team, but it didn't take long before the one-sided calls began.
An overthrow to a catcher trying to get a force out at home with bases loaded in the first inning, turned into an out with a drop during an "imaginary exchange", and a Marlin called out at first on an errant throw which clearly pulled the 1st baseman 5 feet off the bag in the second. Somehow the 1st base umpire has mistaken a live human being for Inspector Gadget.
The Marlin's manager was tossed when asking for help on the call in the 2nd inning, fulfilling the umpire's goals.

The Fish managed to hold onto a 4-0 lead until the 6th, when reliever Tony Burnham ran into a little trouble. After pitching out of a bases loaded jam in the 5th striking out the A's # 3 and 4 hitters, Burnham was pulled in the 6th for Marlin's closer Perry Teague. Teague retired the first batter he faced, but after a hit and a throwing error, the Fish trailed for the first time in the game.
The A's then stepped up their game and held the Marlins scoreless for the remainder of the day.
In fairness to Burnham, he is still recovering from a broken foot, and didn't get much work in with the team during spring training because of it.

Offensively, the Marlins managed 11 hits, but could not get more than 4 runs across.
Standouts on the day were Marlin's rookie Doug Elliott going 2 for 4 with the game's and season's first RBI, leadoff hitter Bobby Esteves with his 3 for 4, 2 RBI performance, and catcher Jason Taddie's 3 for 3 showing.

Starting pitcher Jimmy Groves looked strong, striking out 5 in 3 innings, while surrendering 2 hits and 2 walks.
Marlin newcomer Keith Beck was impressive as well in his 2 innings of work, picking up a K and giving up 2 harmless hits, and Perry Teague continued his 0.00 ERA since joining the team last fall.

Marlin's management has once again notified the league commissioner about the umpires, and has been told they are looking into the situation.
Hopefully, they will reinstate the ban, and we won't have to deal with the stupidity again.

Next game will be Monday night at 7pm against the Orlando Mets (0-1), who lost a tough one today against the league champion Reds (2-0), 2-1.
On the mound for the Fish will be Darrin Reichle, followed by Robb "Pray for Rain" Cymerman, rookie phenom Shawn Regan, and whoever else we can dig up.

GO FISH!!!

REICHLE, CYMERMAN SOLID AS FISH WIN 5-2.................

February 15, 2006
The Orlando Marlins (1-1) beat the Mets (0-2) Monday night in the coldest game in team history. Game time temperature was estimated at 40 degrees, but the Fish were prepared with hot chocolate, a fire in their bellies from Sunday’s loss to the umpires and A’s and a visit from 007 himself, Bond….James Bond.

Starting pitcher Darrin Reichle took the win going 5 innings letting up an unearned run, 4 hits and striking out 8 Mets, while reliever Robb “Pray-for-Rain” Cymerman closed out the last 4 innings for the first save of his career. Cymerman, who was the team work horse last spring, faired terribly during the fall campaign, suffering from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder after the Ray/Hancock arm breaks. “It looks as if Cym is back” said a jubilant teammate. Cym gave up an unearned run, surrendered 2 hits and 2 walks while striking out 2.

Defensively there were a few miscues which led to Met runs, but the pitching and offense was strong enough to overshadow them.

The Marlins grinded out 10 hits, and took advantage of a couple of Met errors, but they certainly didn’t run away with this one. Met’s starter Al Little, making his second start in as many days, was tough to get something going on. “I don’t know how he did it” said Marlin’s manager Rich Musumeci. “How did he pitch 10-11 innings in two of the coldest days of the year, in his first 2 games to boot, and still be effective?”

Offensive player of the game was Todd Teeter. Teeter went 3 for 4 with an RBI and a run scored while continuing to experience pain and discomfort in his surgically repaired elbow.

Long time Marlin’s fan James Bond showed up and caught a few innings of his favorite team, but after a cup of hot cocoa and some autograph exchanges with the players, he was off as quickly as he appeared.
“It was great to have him show up and support the team” said centerfielder Tony Burnham, “But has anyone else noticed when 007 shows up, Glenn Reichle is no where to be found?”

The Marlins have a tough game coming up Sunday against another divisional foe. This time it’s the first place Reds (2-0). Game time is 3:30pm. Taking the mound for the Fish will be Jimmy Groves. Groves had a no decision in his first start of the season.

IN OTHER NEWS…………… Former Marlin shortstop Brian Joslin has reportedly contacted the team in hopes of resuming contract negotiations. Joslin, who held out during spring training while his agent battled with the Marlins for a new contract has been reportedly bumming around hitting strip clubs, casino boats and eating pizza like a starving Ethiopian boy eats caterpillars. Joslin refuses to acknowledge that he is in his 2nd year of a 3 year deal. After 3 years he can become a free agent and go where he pleases. There have been no comments from Marlin’s management, but rumor has it the Marlin’s have yet to return his calls.

REICHLE FLIRTS WITH NO-HITTER, AS FISH WIN 8-0.............

February 21, 2006
The Orlando Marlins (2-2) bounced backed Monday night against the Yankees after a disappointing loss on Sunday to the Reds.

Staff ace Darrin Reichle (2-0) put the Marlins back on track with a convincing 8-0 victory, going 7 innings surrendering 1 hit, 2 walks while striking out 12. Reichle had a perfect game going until a two out walk in the 6th, and a no-hitter going until 2 out in the 7th. A round of applause could be heard from the saddened Marlin’s bench and stands as the no–no was broken up by a flare over the 1st baseman’s head that landed just inside the right field foul line. “We wanted that no-no for D-Man” said second baseman Robb Cymerman. “But knowing he isn’t even at full speed yet, I expect he’ll have more chances for one.”
The Marlin’s defense played extremely solid behind Reichle, making some spectacular plays including a dive by displaced first baseman Todd Teeter playing centerfield for the first time in a Marlin’s uniform. Perry Teague had an outstanding night at SS, while Glenn Reichle and Drew Stafford splitting first base duties, had great scoops of their own.

Offensively, the team has room for some improvement as only 3 of the 8 runs were earned. Some noteworthy performances included Shawn Regan’s breakout game going 3 for 4 with a stolen base, and Jimmy Groves 1.000 OB% night with 4 BB’s in 4 plate appearances.

It was a nice come back from the game vs. the Reds a day earlier. Starting pitcher Jimmy Groves was in control with a narrow 1-0 lead against the defending spring champs until the 5th inning, when an error opened the gates to 4 runs and a 3 run Red’s lead. Keith Beck came on in relief but didn’t have his best stuff, as the Reds bats woke up and pounded the Fish en-route to an 11-1 victory. “It all happened so quickly” said third baseman Doug Elliott. “All I know is I went to the bathroom and to grab some water. Next thing I know, the umps are calling the game due to the run rule!”

The Reds countered with Joe De Valle, who was mentioned in trade talks with the Marlins during the off-season, who proceeded to show the Fish what they missed out on. What he doesn’t know is, how close he actually was to becoming a Marlin.
At the last minute, the Marlins regretfully denied the trade due to the depth at pitching they already had, opting instead to wait for the draft to try and beef up the offense a little.
De Valle struck out 8 Fish while surrendering only 2 hits on way to his first win of the season.

Next up for the Marlins are the Titans (1-2), who beat them last fall due to a chaotic game ending blown call. They are one of the class acts of the league, so it should be a great game.
Taking the hill for his third start of the 06 season is Jimmy Groves (0-1) who has yet to give up an earned run. (Sorry, I just the jinxed you Jimbo).

IN OTHER NEWS……………The Marlins will be sporting new batting helmets this Sunday thanks to Christine Di’Rienzo of Realty Executives. On behalf of the Marlins, I’d like to thank her for her generosity. Please remember her when you or someone you know needs a realtor. She would love nothing more than to help the team out again in the future. Her contact info is listed under the “Links” and “Sponsors” buttons to the left of this page, and I will have business cards for you all as well.

STORKS EDGE HOMETOWN MARLINS, 5-4...........

March 10, 2006
Baseball AND Honkball fans were excited about this one, but unfortunately only two of them showed up on this crisp Tuesday evening to watch the exhibition game between the improving Orlando Marlins and The Hague Storks.

The Storks, playing their 2nd of 4 exhibition games against Orlando MSBL opponents, had a tough time against the Marlin's rehabbing starter Tony Burnham. "Bernie" went 6 innings striking out 10, walking 1 while surrendering 4 hits and 1 earned run. It was a solid and promising start for the 36 year old right hander, who broke is foot before the start of spring training and was ineffective in his only appearance of the 2006 season. "I was extremely encouraged by his performance tonight" said manager Rich Musumeci. "If we are to be one of the league's elite, we are going to need the 2005 Tony Burnham in the mix. This was great for his rehab AND his confidence."
Catcher Jason Taddie said, "That was the best he's thrown in a while. I don't think his foot will be giving him anymore problems."
2006 rookie Shawn Regan came on in relief and pitched the final 3 innings without giving up a run, continuing to show he can be a reliable arm out of the bullpen.

The Storks countered with tough pitching themselves, as the home team could only muster 4 unearned runs and struck out 8 of the last 10 at bats against the Netherlands reliever, for a total of 18 on the night.

The Stork's players "toughed it out" playing in the searing 60 degree Florida heat they left snow covered Holland for, as the Fish shivered wondering where the warmth of spring was.

We want to thank Orlando MSBL commissioner Brian Blevins for letting us be one of the select few teams to have the pleasure of playing "Honkball", and the Storks for being such a classy and friendly bunch. It was an honor to play you guys, and we hope you make the trip again next year!
I now understand why Jimmy Groves would love to live in Holland again. If you get the opportunity Jimmy, I may be going with you!

The regular season resumes this Sunday at 9am against a solid 2nd place Cubs team (3-1).
On the mound for the Fish will be Darrin Reichle 2-0 0.00 ERA.
If anyone can make it out 8-8:15 am, I'll be out there throwing BP so come early and get your hacks!

The next few games are going to be tough for the Marlins, as the square off against some talented opponents. After the Cubs, it will be the Pirates (3-1), Cardinals (2-1) and the undefeated Crew (3-0) in Lakeland.

CUB'S HUSTON OUTDUELS MARLIN'S ACE............

March 12, 2006
It was a clash of number ones, as the Marlins sent D-Man into battle against the Orlando Cub’s (4-1) pride and joy, Corey Huston.
Huston, always a thorn in the Marlins side whether at the plate or on the mound, was in complete control of this one as he sent Marlin hitters back to the bench with heads hanging 15 times, surrendering only 4 hits and 1 walk en route to a 10-0 complete game win.

Reichle, who victimized 13 Cubs himself, just wasn’t at the top of his game as he gave up an unusually high 11 hits and the first earned runs since May 26th 2005. “Give the Cubs credit” said Marlins manager Rich Musumeci. “They were ready to play! We handed them quite a few runs, but they held us from mounting any sort of response.” Only 2 of the 8 runs given up by Reichle were earned.
The Marlins starter didn’t have the tightest defense behind him today, but it’s hard to win a game when your team doesn’t score any runs.

Huston was the last person the struggling Marlin’s offense wanted to see on the hill today, but they must regroup and try to break out of it Tuesday night when they take on the Pirates at 7pm.
On the hill for the Fish will be Jimmy “I’m Europe bound” Groves (0-1 0.00 ERA) as he tries to get his team back to .500.

Game balls go out to Glenn Reichle for his 2 for 3 effort, including a double over the leftfielder’s head against one of the league’s best, and brother Darrin for his 13 K’s in 6 innings of work.

HIT THE CAGES MARLIN”S!! Let’s challenge the Reds for the top spot!!
GO FISH!!

DEFENSE CONTINUES TO FALTER AS FISH DROP ANOTHER ONE, 8-4..........

March 14, 2006
It was another ugly game as the Orlando Marlins (2-4) continue to give away more runs than they can produce. 6 errors on the night was enough for the hard hitting Pirates (4-1-1) to take advantage of putting 8 runs on the board, while their pitching and defense kept killing any rallies the Fish tried to start.

Marlin’s starting pitcher Jimmy Groves threw pretty decent tonight allowing 3 earned runs in 4 2/3 innings while walking 2 and striking out 6, before being pulled in the 5th due to a high pitch count.

Offensively the fish out hit the Pirates, but just couldn’t get the runs across. Some bright spots were Glenn Reichle with another 2 for 3 output, Gustavo D’Andrea with his 2 for 3 effort and Bobby Esteves 5th inning single with 2 stolen bases, making it 5 swiped bags for the season thus far.

The Marlins are hardly laying down in these ball games. Fans saw plenty of hustle and urgency on behalf of their team. They just haven’t been getting the breaks, bounces and drops other teams have had. It will happen, and they’ll get the season turned around. There’s too much talent on this squad NOT to.

The Cardinals are up next for the Fish this Sunday at 3:30pm, where they’ll find 2005 ERA leader Robb Cymerman on the mound making his first start of the season.
Cym will put his 0.00 ERA on the line as he attempts to put the Fish back in the win column, and also give Darrin Reichle a breather.

Come on down and support your team!!
HAPPY ST. PATTY'S DAY TO ALL OUR IRISH FAMILIES!!!!!

GO FISH!!!!!!!!

STAFFORD DRIVES IN GAME WINNER IN 9TH, FISH WIN 7-6.........

March 20, 2006
It had shutout loss written all over it. The struggling Marlin’s offense headed on a collision course with Central Florida Cardinals (3-4) ace, Andy Boysen. Boysen entered the game with two complete game wins, no ERA and a league low 4 hits in 14 innings.
Somehow the Marlins (3-4) managed 11 hits and 4 walks good enough for 7 runs against the hard throwing left hander.

Leading the way was all-star catcher Drew Stafford who finished the day 2 for 5 with 2 RBI’s, including the game winner that drove in leadoff man Shaun Regan.
Stafford didn’t only take control with his bat. He single handedly shut down the Cardinals running attack throwing out 2 would-be base stealers in the first 2 innings. The Cards never attempted another steal.
“I don’t know what we have to do to get this guy on the field more often, but whatever it is we need to do it” said long time teammate Todd Teeter. Stafford has a tough schedule right now, but the Fish are thankful for whatever time he has to offer.

The Cards took early leads of 1-0 and 3-0, until the Fish tied it up in the bottom of the 3rd, and took a 1 run lead in the 4th. The Cards regained the lead on a Bill McCaffrey 2 out double. It would be like that the whole game as the lead changed hands 5 times.

Starting pitcher Robb Cymerman worked through 4 2/3 innings trying to shake off some rust. The Cards took advantage of key hits and tagged Cym for 5 earned runs, on 8 hits and 3 walks. Jimmy Groves, fresh off a 111 pitch effort Tuesday night, came on in relief and did an excellent job until the Cardinals finally got a run off him in the top of the 9th, tying the game at 6.
With 1 out and runners on first and third, the Marlin’s put in Darrin Reichle, who they skipped over in the rotation to rest his shoulder. Reichle struck out both batters he faced, and the Fish were heading into the last of the 9th with the top of the order coming up.
Rookie SS Shaun Regan beat out an infield single, and Teeter managed to get on top of a high fastball and laid down a beautiful bunt to get Regan in scoring position. Then, on a first pitch fastball, Stafford roped a single into center scoring the Speedy shortstop from 2nd base.

Defensively the Marlins played fantastic, with 1 harmless error in the 6th.
They got great infield play from Regan, 2B Marlyn Kelch, 3B Douglas “Gary” Elliott and 1B Glenn Reichle.

It was an exciting, edge-of-your-seat ballgame that the Fish needed to win.
Up next is the undefeated Crew in Lakeland. Taking the hill for the Marlins will be D-Man, who improved his record to 3-1 with a 0.96 ERA. He’ll attempt to get the Fish back to .500 and back in the division race.

An outstanding effort by all Sunday! It was total TEAM win! Everyone contributed in this one, but I have to give the game ball to Big Cat Stafford, who didn’t miss a beat out there being only his 2nd game of the season!!
Nice job everyone!!!!

If anyone needs a ride for Sunday's game in Lakeland, give me a call. I will try and match everyone up.

NEW FISH IN THE TANK.........

March 24, 2005
In a deal that was thought to be dead, the Orlando Marlins and Reds went back to the table this past week and breathed some life back into it.
The two teams negotiated throughout the off-season, but could not come to an agreement….. until now.
After lengthy negotiations, the Marlins have acquired P/Utility man Joe Del Valle from the Jim Krall division leaders. In return, the Reds will receive the Marlin’s first round pick in the 2007 spring draft, a dozen baseballs, 2 chickens, a goat and a slightly used oil filter.

In Del Valle, the Marlins get a top notch starting pitcher who can contribute immediately. With the injuries that seem to plague this team, Marlin’s management thought it imperative to seek another solid arm.
Also driving the Marlin’s search for pitching depth is Jimmy Groves’s out-of-state job search. Should Groves accept a position elsewhere, the Fish would be left with a huge void to fill and a season in question. Now the Marlins have a safety net.
If the team’s # 2 starter decides to stay put, which is the hopes of all Marlin fans, then that just means they have another thoroughbred in the stable and a pitching rotation from hell.

But Del Valle doesn’t just have an arm to offer. There is a solid stick there as well, good enough to bat cleanup for the 2005 spring champs. A clutch hitter and a tough out, Del Valle’s bat will give the struggling Marlin’s offense a sorely needed boost. The newest Marlin comes to the club batting .385 with 2 runs scored, 3 RBI’s and a stolen base.

Del Valle is expected to join his new team this Sunday, when the Marlin’s take on red hot Lakeland Crew, fresh off their Las Vegas tourney championship. It will be tough one for the teal ones, as they will be without several key players.

WELCOME ABOARD JOE!!

FISH LOSE PITCHERS DUEL......

March 27, 2006
The Orlando Marlins (3-5) made the trek out to Lakeland to take on the undefeated Crew (7-0) Sunday, only to lose a pitchers duel 4-2.
Marlin’s ace, Darrin “D-Man” Reichle took the mound for the Fish and pitched a solid game. D-Man held the hard hitting Crew to 2 earned runs on 6 hits, while striking out 7 in 7 innings. Definitely a line worthy of a win.
Unfortunately Reichle was tagged with a loss, but this one can’t be blamed on the offense this time as Marlin hitters were robbed time and time again by a ridiculously filthy Crew defense. There were several hard hit balls that just could not find holes and when they did, there was a defender to snag it. It is obvious how they were able to take home the Vegas trophy.

The Marlins had some pretty good defensive plays themselves. Leading the way was RF Gustavo D'Andrea who made several spectacular plays, including one where he caught a line drive and doubled up the runner on first.

Some other highlights for the teal ones were the first home runs ever hit for the franchise, as hometown hero Jimmy Groves and 007 look-a-like Glenn Reichle, hit solo shots over the left field fence, giving the team some exciting moments.
Groves will go down as the first Marlin in history to hit a dinger. “He definitely enjoys playing 3 minutes from his bedroom” said teammate Shaun Regan.
A few innings later, Glenn Reichle hit his shot almost in the exact same place, pulling the Marlins to within 2 runs.
It was a great thing to see. Hopefully these are signs the slumbering offense is awakening.

In a phone interview from his home in N.Y., long time Marlin fan and former SNL regular Kevin Nealon had this to say about 2 of his favorite Marlins;

“That Lakeland kid Jimmy can really get it done (drinking binges). I have always admired the way he keeps himself in line (unemployment line). His bat is thunderous and quick (steroids) and in my opinion, this season he’s capable of hitting at least 30 (batters).
If the Marlins can hold on to him, they are destined for greatness (basement dwellers).
And how about that G-Man, Glenn Reichle? Is there a more modest man in baseball? (show-off). He is a blue collar guy who brings his lunch pail to work. (pretty boy) He eats well, and takes care of himself. (beer, cigarettes, performance enhancers) I mean, the guy called his shot before he hit it (pure luck). It was great to see his parents witness his first home run (momma’s boy).
Great game Marlins! (losers). I am confident you guys will make the playoffs! (first pick in next years draft again). Good luck!”

It would have been interesting to see the outcome had the Marlins big sticks Teeter, Stafford and Elliott been available for the game.

It was disappointing to lose the game, but these Fish are still playing tough and to play the Crew, arguably the best team in the league so well, it’s something to be proud of and build on.

The Marlins are off until Thursday April 6th when they take on division rivals Orlando Mets. Probable starter will be Jimmy Groves 0-2 2.08 ERA, who surprisingly is still looking for his first win of the 2006 season.
That game begins a mini marathon of games, as they face the Titans on the 8th, and the division leading Reds on the 9th.
Starters for those games have not been determined, but Reichle may take the hill against the Titans, leaving “Crazy Joe Devola” De Valle to take on his former team.

Rest up little fishies, its going to get interesting these next few weeks!

Good Luck guys!!!

MARLINS TOP METS WITH LATE RALLY...........

April 8, 2006
Marlins starter Jimmy Groves is becoming the team's “set-up” man of sorts. He “sets-up” his fellow teammates with a win.
Groves’ record remains at 0-2 despite surrendering only 1 ER in his last 10 2/3 innings pitched. His relief appearance against the Cardinals set Darrin Reichle up for the win and Thursday night after 6 solid innings of work, Tony Burnham came in for the final 2 and picked up the win with the Marlin’s 7 run eighth inning.

Groves ERA is at a stingy 1.54 after 4 starts, but if he keeps pitching the way he has, the wins are sure to come. “I just go out there and do my best. Whatever happens happens” said Groves. “I don’t get caught up in the number of wins next to my name, as long as the team wins. The only digits that matter to me are the three on the end (ERA). And the 2 that represent my age.... I’m a little depressed about those.”

The Marlins offense pounded out a franchise record 19 hits en route to an 11-4 victory over their division rivals. Mets’ starter Al Little held the Marlins to 4 runs, allowing his team to tie the game in the 6th. By the 8th, the Fish figured him out and put the game out of reach.
Some outstanding performances included D-Man, Drew Stafford and Doug Elliott going 3 for 4. D-Man ended up a home run shy of the cycle and drove in 3 runs. Nothing new with Stafford as he continues to produce, and Doug Elliott is starting to hit like the Marlins new he could when they snagged him in the off-season.

There were so many great individual efforts in this one that game balls go out to everyone. But the edge for “Player Of The Game” honors has to go to Burnham, who after catching 6 innings was asked to relieve Groves.
“Bernie”, without the opportunity to warm up off a mound, came in and kept the Mets in check, walking 2 striking out 2 and giving up 1 hit in 2 innings. Offensively, he broke out of his 0 for 20 slump with an infield hit and a 2 run triple.
For his efforts, Burnham’s average skyrocketed to .091, and saw his ERA plummet to 8.10. Congrats Tony!!

Next up for the Marlins (4-5) are the Orlando Titans, who are victims of an extremely tough division as they sit in 4th place with a 6-4-1 record.
On the mound for the Fish is Darrin Reichle 3-2 1.40 ERA.

REICHLE PITCHES THROUGH PAIN, FISH WIN 8-1........

April 9, 2006
The Orlando Marlins (5-5) got back to .500 Saturday night, as they defeated a tough Titans team (6-5-1). Starting pitcher Darrin Reichle went the distance surrendering an unearned run and 7 hits while striking out 14.
Reichle gave his teammates a scare when he started to experience some pain in his right side after a swing in his first at bat. “I think I pulled something in that at bat” said the 40 year old right hander. Reichle would stay in the game, but bat from the right side rather than his customary left side to ease the pain.
Team doctors have not yet confirmed what the problem might be, but they have definitely ruled out pregnancy. “In my opinion, Mr. Reichle is definitely NOT pregnant” said Marlins head Doctor Melvin Schwartz. “We’ll run some more tests and keep a close watch on him”
That’s good news for the Marlins who need this workhorse for a successful season.

The Marlin’s bats were alive again as they produced 8 runs. Most notable efforts were Marlyn Kelch’s 2 run double in the 3rd inning, and the 7th inning bases loaded triple by long time Marlin Todd Teeter.
Defense was superb as only 1 error was recorded, which did lead to a run.

There has been a powerful force that has taken over this team the past few games. It’s obviously a positive force. Some say it’s just everyone coming out of slumps at once. But others say it has to do with a strange looking fellow by the name of Gary.
“Gary”, since joining the team mysteriously in the game against the Cardinals, has brought good fortune to the team. “We are 3-0 when Gary is touched APPROPRIATELY. Unfortunately, one of our resident wise guys (Marlyn Kelch) thought it would be funny to touch Gary’s “privates”, and to rub him in an improper manner before the game against the Crew. We lost 4-2 and Marlyn was robbed repeatedly of hits” said manager Rich Musumeci.
A shocked Todd Teeter claimed he touched Gary’s shoulder before his triple in the 7th inning. “I saw Gary on the bench, so I figured what the heck. I grabbed my bat and the rest is history”.
Call it superstition, call it a hoax. But whatever it is, these Fish are going to ride Gary until the theory is disproved.

Please see the list of rules and proper care of Gary posted shortly.

Next challenge for the Fish are the division leading Reds. The last meeting between these two teams resulted in an 11-1 loss. The starting pitcher for the Reds in that game was newly acquired Marlin, Joe De Valle. Joe will attempt to do to the Reds what he did to the Marlins in that game.

Let’s keep it rolling guys!!!

REDS DUCK MARLINS, CALL OFF GAMES FOR SUNDAY.........

April 9, 2006
In a desperate attempt to cool off the red hot Marlins, Brian Blevins the league commissioner and coincidentally the Reds manager, called off the games today citing wet field conditions.

Actually, the city calls the games but it sounded like a good story.

The Marlins next game is scheduled for Tuesday April 18th at 7pm.
But don't forget about the All-Star game at Tinker field, Saturday April 15th! Gates open at 2pm with the game scheduled to start at 3pm. There will be activities for the kids, and the concession stand will be open for food and refreshments. Oh yeah, and there will be a great game to watch.
Come out and support our All-Star representatives D-Man, G-Man and Jimmy!
Bring the family and friends! Lets have a huge "teal" section!
Admission is free! You can't beat that with a stick!

MARLINS REPRESENT IN 2006 ALL-STAR GAME.............

April 16, 2006
On a beautiful day at Tinker field in Orlando Saturday, the league’s best gathered for the annual mid season classic. The Marlins sent 3 of their best to represent them, and that’s exactly what they did.

Darrin Reichle was named the starter and did quite well in his first MSBL All star game. D-Man struck out the first two batters before retiring another on a line drive to second.
D-Man also contributed with his bat. After the good guys took a 5-0 lead in the 1st, D-Man hit a shot which looked like it cleared the right centerfield wall, but it hit the top and bounced back in play for a double. Batting right behind him was brother G-Man, Glenn Reichle. Glenn hit a single up the middle, which hit second base and careened into right field, scoring his brother from 2nd, extending the lead to 6-0.
All three Marlins batted after each other, bringing Jimmy Groves up next.
With the time change a couple of weeks ago a factor, as well as the early game start (3.pm) and the jet lag from Lakeland, Jimmy didn’t get a hit.

Groves would look good off the mound, as home team manager Brian Blevins sent him in to do battle in the 3rd. After his usual shaky first few batters he faces in an outing, Groves settled down and got out of a potential jam, surrendering only 1 run. “You could see him turn up the heat after the first few hits” said former teammate and fan on the day, Brian Joslin. “He was smiling and joking around at first, and then you could see the adrenaline start to flow.”
“That’s Jimmy’s M.O.” said Marlin’s manager Rich Musumeci. “If you’re going to score on him, you better do it in the 1st inning, because after that it ain’t happening.”

The Marlin All-stars looked solid on defense as well, as Glenn started in RF, Jimmy finished up at 3B and D-Man saw time in LF.

If you attended the game and heard a familiar voice coming from the P.A. system, you heard Marlins own resident radio man Colin Brady. Colin was asked to run the P.A. box earlier in the week, and he stepped up BIG time.
“I felt like I was at a professional game” said Marlin rookie Shaun Regan. “He did a great job up there!” added League commissioner, Brian Blevins. “It was great to have him up there!”
Colin combined his radio experience and his “Bob Uecker” sense of humor to announcements and reminders throughout the day, making it a truly entertaining event.
From the individual player introductions, the Orlando MSBL Hall Of Fame induction, the Tim Marsh tribute and the kid’s competition events, to the T-shirt sale reminders, Brady did a fantastic job.
Great job up there Colin! Thanks again!

I'd also like to throw out a personal thank you to our own Brian Joslin. Brian was my right hand man all day, as he watched my daughter when I had to run the children events, take pictures, video etc. Thanks again buddy!!

Thanks to all that attended!

The Marlins are back at it this Tuesday night at 7pm, when they take on the struggling Orlando Braves (2-7-1). On the mound making his pitching debut for the Fish, is Joe De Valle. Joe is officially 1-0 on the season (a win against US!), but will be looking for his first win as a Marlin.

Happy Easter to all!

DEL VALLE'S DEBUT SPOILED....AGAIN.......

The Orlando Marlins recently acquired starting pitcher Joe De Valle, has been struck by bad luck for the 2nd time in as many weeks.
His first scheduled start for his new team was to be Sunday April 9th, until a rain storm the night before rendered the fields unplayable.
His next start which he actually started was Tuesday night. De Valle was rolling through a tough Braves lineup until the 3rd inning, when the rain which had been coming down all night, got a little heavier.

“Joe was bringin it” said catcher Jason Taddie. “Everything seemed to be working for him.” De Valle had a no hitter going through 3 innings, while walking 2 and striking out 6.
It had the makings of a great game until the bottom of the 3rd. After a leadoff double by Marlin’s rookie infielder Doug “Gary” Elliott and a 2-2 count on Gustavo D’Andrea, the game was called, sending everyone home wet.

“I like what I saw” said manager Rich Musumeci. “He was hitting his spots, and mixing things up real nice. I am looking forward to his next start. I will bring my umbrella and galoshes though.”

The Marlins next two games will be Saturday 4/22 at 8:30am against the A’s, and Sunday 4/23 at 12:30pm vs. the red hot Red Sox.
Jimmy “Oh Canada” Groves (0-2 1.54 ERA) will be on the hill Saturday and Darrin “D-Man” Reichle will take his 4-2 record and 1.04 ERA into battle against one of the toughest teams in the league.

Saturday’s game is looking a little tight, so if you think you won’t be there, please be sure and let me know as soon as possible.

IN OTHER NEWS.....
It looks as if Marlin’s starting pitcher Jimmy Groves will be taking his act to Canada.
The Marlins will be without his services for the very end of the season and throughout the playoffs, should they make it.
“It was what I was afraid of” said the Marlin’s Manager. “It’s always an uphill battle when you lose a quality arm and ball player like that. We will do our best. We are blessed with some quality arms in this organization, so those guys will be stepping up for the challenge.”
“Those guys” he refers to are 2005 starters Robb Cymerman and Tony Burnham who will help Reichle and De Valle carry the load, with the assistance of relievers Perry Teague and Shaun Regan.
Groves, who will be joining a talented Canadian rotation, should be back in time for the fall season.
Until then, he will incur the wrath of his teammates heckling.
Jimmy, get ready eh?

A's CONTINUE THEIR MASTERY OVER FISH..........

April 22, 2006
The Orlando Marlins failed to get above .500 today as they dropped another game to their division rivals Orlando A’s, 8-7. The Marlins (5-6) have yet to beat the A’s in their 2 year existence, falling behind 0-4 for the series.

But it wasn’t for a lack of trying. “Our guys played a great game today” said manager Rich Musumeci. “Defensively we were pretty sharp, despite the couple of errors and passed balls. Offensively, we put up 7 runs, but we started our rally too late.”

Leading the way defensively was utility man Marlyn Kelch. Marlyn was busy imitating Roberto Alomar (during his prime years) when at 2nd, and when switched to the outfield, proceeded to do his Torii Hunter routine.
“Marlyn was all over the freakin field today” said a teammate. Kelch had a ridiculous morning playing defense, but there were some other great performers as well. Drew Stafford turned in another quality performance behind the plate before having to leave, and Tony Burnham filling in at SS, played as solid as you could ask.

The loss cannot be blamed on 1 person, or 1 play. Rather, a series of events that put the team in a situation they did not want to be in.
Jimmy Groves and Shaun Regan driving in from Lakeland, ran into a closed I-4 delaying their arrival to the game. Groves was expected to start, but instead the Marlins had to turn to reliever Perry Teague, who has not seen action in a month. Teague pitched solid, especially considering he hasn’t pitched in a while, 1 ER in 4 2/3.
Groves came on in relief and inherited a 3-0 deficit, but got into trouble in his first inning. “I don’t know what happened out there today” said Groves. “I guess I just didn’t mix my pitches up enough.” But once he did, the A’s were done. Groves cruised through the last 3 innings, giving his teammates a chance to narrow the gap.
But two runs in the 6th, four in the 7th and one more in the 9th, just weren’t enough, as the A’s had already built an 8-0 lead and held on for an 8-7 win.
Burnham was another option to start, but Marlin's management did not like the matchup, plus they want to get him some work in Tuesdays game against the Dodgers. "I have alot of confidence in Bernie" said Musumeci. "He just hasn't faired well against these guys in the past. They are dead fastball hitters, and Tony has a hell of a fastball."

It was a setback, as the game was viewed by some as a “must win”. Too many big sticks were missing, and the team did not start the way they wanted to, but there is still plenty of baseball left to get on a roll.

Next up for the Marlins is an extremely tough Red Sox team (11-2-1), which has now won 8 straight games and sitting comfortably in first in their division.
The game is a battle of Realtors, as the Red Sox are sponsored by Main Street Realtors, and the Fish are sponsored by Realty Executives, specifically agent Christine Di Rienzo.
The Fish will play their best in hopes of an upset and a huge boost in confidence, not that confidence is low.

BURNHAM, D'ANDREA LIFT FISH OVER SOX, 5-4...........

April 23, 2006
The Orlando Marlins (6-6) upset the red hot expansion Red Sox (11-3-1) Sunday, on the bats of outfielders Tony Burnham and Gustavo D’Andrea and on the arm of staff ace Darrin Reichle.

Burnham, who started the season 0 for 22, is now 8 for his last 12 with a triple and 5 RBI’s. “I’m finally finding the holes” said Bernie. “It was only a matter of time.” Burnham was hitting balls right at defenders during the slump, but they are finding their way for hits now.
The 37 year old utility man was 1 for 3 with a 2 run single and drove in a third on a fielder’s choice. Fellow outfielder Gus D’Andrea drove in the other 2 runs on a 2 out double in the 7th.
“Gustavo is starting to come around as well” said manager Rich Musumeci. “He is a tough out and seems to be a better hitter under pressure.”

Defense and pitching were also the story on the day, as the Marlin’s played tight defensively. Although a few Red Sox batters had ridiculous speed and stole their share of bases today, catcher Drew Stafford was able to throw out 4 of them, including the game ending play when the runner on third tried to score on a passed ball. Stafford put the ball where Darrin Reichle didn’t have to move his glove, and the runner slid right into it.
Also noteworthy was rookie SS Shaun Regan’s catch in LF, and a nice double play in the 7th.

D-Man went the distance surrendering 4 runs on 9 hits, while striking out 7 and walking 3. “They are one good hitting team” said an exhausted Reichle. “I was running out of gas those last 2 innings, but I was able to muster up just enough.” Reichle threw 123 pitches on a 90+ degree day. “My mistake was not getting a runner for him” said Musumeci. “On a day like this, I need to protect our pitchers. From now on they won’t be running when they are on the mound.”

It’s extremely hard to point out 1 player of the game, so game balls go out to the whole team! That was a fantastic team effort against one of the top 3 ball clubs in the league.
I’ll even throw a game ball out to Jimmy’s girl Joanna, for defending her team and almost getting into a brawl with one of the Red Sox fans! You can take the girl out of Jersey, but you can’t take the Jersey out of the girl!

Next up for the Fish are the Orlando Dodgers (5-7-2) Tuesday night at 7pm. On the mound will be Joe De Valle still trying to get a full game in, so expect some rain!

Great job again today guys!

GO FISH!

FINALLY!!!..............

April 26, 2006
“Crazy Joe Devola” De Valle, making his long awaited Marlins debut (if you don’t count the 3 inning performance before the rains last Tuesday), totally shut down the Dodgers in a 1 hit complete game shut out.
De Valle cruised through 7 innings and had a no hitter broken up with 2 outs to go in a mercy shortened game. The newest Marlin pitcher walked 3 and struck out 7 for his first win in a Teal uniform.
“It is believed that Joe lost the no hitter due to teammate Jason Taddie’s constant reminders that he was pitching a no hitter, but Taddie claims it was because Gustavo D’Andrea’s son took “Gary” out of the dugout briefly the inning prior. Team officials are investigating.

“This rebuilding Dodger team, which is not a pushover by any means, was over matched by Joe tonight” said a teammate.
De Valle was aided by a great defense and an offensive punch that matched a season high output of 19 hits. All 12 Marlin batters had at least 1 hit as they churned out 11 runs.

………………Returning after a brief hiatus, 2B Robb Cymerman had a solid night, going 2 for 3 with an RBI and a run scored as well as several nice defensive plays, including one he didn’t even see. “I have to admit, I had my eyes closed on one of those” said Cym.
………………Since taking over 3rd base, Jimmy Groves has played outstanding. “Man, he has a live arm” said 1B Glenn Reichle, who was on the receiving end of those throws.
“He is going to be missed.”
………………Meanwhile, 2006 first round pick SS Shaun Regan continues to impress. “This kid is getting better by the game” said manager Rich Musumeci. “You can just see his confidence increasing after every play.”
Regan might quite possibly be rookie of the year. There were several quality players at the draft, but Regan is clearly showing why is was the #1 pick.
………………CF Bobby Esteves seems to have come out of the little slump he was in, going 5 for 9 with an RBI is his last 2 games. His base running, unfortunately has taken a step backwards, so to speak. Esteves, intrigued with Red Sox’ leadoff hitter Jason Black’s Stats (27 SB’s in 14 games), appears to have lost his sense of when, and when not to run. Esteves missed a couple of signs in Sunday’s game, and ran on Tuesday night when there was no sign. “I don’t know what’s going on” says Esteves. “I see an opportunity and I go. I’ll get it straightened out.”

Next up for the Marlins, are the Orlando Astros (4-9-1) Sunday @ 8:30am. On the mound will be Jimmy "Oh Canada" Groves 0-2 2.60 ERA, shockingly STILL looking for his first win!

**********WHO'S HOT............WHO'S NOT.........**********

April 28, 2006

WHO'S HOT.....
Tony BurnhamThis veteran utility man has been flat out red hot since snapping his 0 for 22 slump he started the season with.
"Bernie" has gone 12 for his last 19 with a triple, 5 runs scored and 10 RBI's in his last 6 games. His defense has been phenomenal in the outfield and has played equally as solid at SS and catcher.

Burnham, an All-Star candidate in 2005, is well on his way to another season as one of the Marlin's best.

WHO'S NOT.......
Pamela Anderson

Yeahhhhh, I just don't see it.

FISH ON A ROLL..............

April 30, 2006
(I've been waiting 2 seasons to use that one!!)

The Orlando Marlins (8-6) defeated the Orlando Astros (4-10-1) by the score of 9-5 with the help of some fine pitching, clutch hitting and not too shabby defensive play.
The second year team has won three straight and 5 of their last 6 games to get themselves in position for a playoff run.

Three days after his 29th birthday, young Jimmy Groves received his gift; his first win of the 2006 campaign. He’s certainly pitched well enough to win this season, but things just didn’t go his way. Today they did.
Groves went the distance surrendering 3 earned runs on 9 hits, while striking out 10 in his 5th start of the season. “Wow, five starts before I got a win. Who’d a thunk it?” said Groves in his thick Virginian accent. “I woulda betcha a 2 headed corn snake, that I’d have at least 3 wins by now.”
Groves was pretty dominant, except against the Astros # 3 hitter who harassed him for 4 hits and 2 RBI’s. Catcher Drew Stafford said, “Jimmy’s fastball was moving today. He’s getting primed for that Canadian gig I guess.”
Grove’s performance earned him “Player of the Game” honors.

The Marlins have been scoring their fair share of runs the last several games, which really takes a lot of heat off the pitching staff. “I really feel I can challenge a little more with a lead” said Groves.
Leading the way has been 2005 All-Star candidate Tony Burnham. Bernie was 3 for 4 with 3 RBI’s on the day, upping his numbers for his last 6 games to 12 for 19 with 10 RBI’s. “Bernie is on freakin fire!” said a teammate.
Also worth noting was OF Darrin Reichle’s 2 RBI’s on 2 hits and a stolen base, Todd Teeter’s double and triple, Doug Elliott going 3 for 4 and Perry Teague’s 2 for 3 day.

Marlins’ pitching has always been solid, but now the offense and defense has caught up and what we have is a tough, hungry and confident team that won’t give up until the final out.

Come on out and catch your Marlins!
The rest of the schedule should be out soon.
There is NO game this Tuesday, as previously rumored. The next scheduled game for the Fish is Sunday, May 7th at 12:00pm vs. the Yankees.
Probable starter for the Marlin’s will be Joe De Valle 1-0 0.00 ERA.

Have a great week! See ya Sunday!!

GO FISH!!!

DEL VALLE LEADS FISH OVER YANKS, 11-0……..

May 7, 2006
In his second start, that counted, Marlin’s starting pitcher Joe Del Valle held the Orlando Yankees (1-15-1) to no runs and 2 hits over 4 innings, while driving in 5 runs for his own team in a mercy shortened game.

The surging Fish jumped out to an early 4-0 lead in the first on a Drew Stafford HBP and a bases loaded triple to right center off the bat of Del Valle.
Joe wasn’t done there. In the 3rd he managed another triple, this time driving in 2 more to put the fish up by 8. A Doug Elliott RBI triple would cap off a 5 run inning that really put the game out of reach.

The Marlins put the final nail in the coffin on a two run home run over the RF fence by cleanup hitter Darrin Reichle. “D-Man has been flirting with a home run all season” said manager Rich Musumeci. “He was destined to catch his brother Glenn and Jimmy (Groves) in the dinger department. He did”.
“It felt pretty good to finally get the monkey off my back” said Reichle. Reichle has really been coming on after a slow start and his now tied for the team lead in RBI’s with 10 along with utility player Tony Burnham.

Defensively it was another gem as only 2 harmless errors were recorded. No names will be mentioned on the errors (Jimmy Groves).
A nice throw from catcher Drew Stafford to nail a would-be stolen base and a sweet play at the plate that started with a throw from CF Bobby Esteves to P Joe Del Valle to C Doug Elliott, relieving Stafford in the 4th for the out, highlighted the day.

The Marlins, who now stand at 9-6, are in sole possession of second place and remain 1 game back of the division leading Reds (11-4-2). This team controls its own destiny. Win out, and there is an outside shot at a division title, and a # 3 seed for the playoffs.
Come on out Marlin fans and family. It’s getting interesting!

The Marlin’s next foe will be the always tough Orlando Cardinals (8-8), who are battling for a playoff spot themselves, Monday May 8th at 7pm.
On the mound for the Fish will be a fresh Darrin Reichle (5-2 1.65 ERA) looking to make it 5 in a row for his team.

BY THE NUMBERS….……….

………………In the last 7 games, the Marlins have outscored their opponents 62-22, winning 4 straight and 6 of the last 7 while raising the team batting average to .308.

9… Number of games in a row 1B/OF Glenn Reichle has hit safely in.

0.00… Joe Del Valle’s ERA for the 2006 season for both the Marlins and his former team, the Reds.

CARDS, MARLINS GAME UNDER PROTEST.......

May 9, 2006
For obvious reasons, last nights game is under protest. Therefore, stats will be held back.

Next game day is Sunday May 21st. Doubleheader scheduled.
Game 1- 3:30pm
Game 2- 7:00pm

Let's put last nights ugliness behind us and get back to having the fun we were having.

MARLINS PLAYOFF CHANCES STILL UNCERTAIN AFTER DOUBLEHEADER..........

May 22, 2006
The shenanigans are finally over and the Fish were back on the field Sunday looking to continue their playoff push. First up were the Orlando Titans against Marlin’s ace Darrin Reichle. The Titans scored 1 in the top of the 1st, but the home team responded with 6 in the bottom of the 1st to take a 5 run lead. The Titans played it tough and chipped away, but the Marlins were able to hang on for the win, 6-5.
Reichle (6-2) pitched solid through 6 and this Thursday nights starter Joe Del Valle, came on to shut the door for the final 3 innings.

Game 2 saw the Orlando Angels (5-12-2) play the role of spoiler as they remained tied with the Fish after 10 innings as time expired. Jimmy Groves, making his last start of the 2006 spring campaign, was solid, but the Angels were ready for a fight. Some key hits and great defense led the Angels to a 4-2 lead until the Marlins pushed 2 more across to tie it up, 4-4.

The tie with the Angels in game 2 of Sunday’s doubleheader knocked the Marlins out of the 6th playoff seed, for the moment. “That’s going to hurt us” said manager for the day, Jimmy Groves. “If the playoffs started tomorrow, we’d be on the outside looking in. With the Cardinals winning today, and that B.S. loss against them last week, we are in a tight spot”.
Should the Marlins (10-7-1) win out, they still may need some help depending on how the Titans (9-9-1), Cardinals (11-8), Reds (11-4-3) and Pirates (9-6-1) finish.
The Marlin’s remaining opponents are the Orlando A’s (7-12), whom they have yet to beat, and the Mets (9-11) who the Marlins have played well against, but that is certainly not a lock for a win.

It will be a tough road ahead for these Fish, as they try to make the post season in only their second year.

As mentioned earlier, Crazy Joe Del Valle (2-0 0.00 ERA) will be taking on the A’s Thursday night at 7pm. Lets fill the stands with Teal and Black!!

(Stats will be available as soon as I get the scorebook back)

IN OTHER NEWS……….
………………CF Bobby Esteves was caught in a run down in the game against the Titans Sunday in a critical situation. Esteves, no stranger to bad base running decisions, has drawn the heat from management of late. “Bobby is on thin ice” said an unnamed teammate. “If he keeps it up, he’ll be getting a runner in the post season, should we make it.”
“Frequent Flyer” as his teammates have dubbed him, will be taking a base running clinic before Thursday’s game.

……………...SS Shaun Regan, a.k.a. Shaunaka Brown, has denied any rumors he has cut a rap album with Eminem. “Man, that’s wack (crazy)” said Regan. “I mean, I got da skillz (talent), but I’m just tryin to keep it real and concentrate on my first love, baseball. That maybe in the cards for me down the road dog (dude), but right now my focus is on making the post (playoffs) with my homeys (teammates)…..peace”.
Regan has been seen dining with the likes of 50 cent, P-Diddy and Eminem to name a few, and it should be known he can lay down some serious rhymes when he’s “feelin it”.

……………P/3B Jimmy Groves is on his way to Canada, leaving the Marlins right when they need him most. “I hope he enjoys Moose knuckle” said a despondent Doug Elliott in a sarcastic tone. “If he thinks he’s going to march back in here come September and be the starting third baseman, he’s crazy!” Groves, unavailable for comment, should be returning sometime during the summer workouts.
GOOD LUCK JIMMY! YOU WILL BE MISSED (just make sure you get back here in one piece)!

THANK YOU…………
Once again, I’d like to thank each and every one of you who phoned and emailed the league commissioner on my behalf to fill him in on what REALLY went down last Monday. The support was overwhelming and it is greatly appreciated. It just proves to me what I have known all along, we have one hell of a group of people involved with this team.
From the players, to their families and friends, thank you again!!!
GO FISH!!!!!!!!!!!

CURSE OF THE A's BROKEN, BUT NOT WITHOUT A SCARE...........

May 27, 2006
“The Cardiac Kids” someone uttered while walking off the field Thursday night after the A’s/Marlin’s game. “That was a scary one.”
The Orlando Marlins (11-7-1) battling for a playoff spot, were in control of most of the game until the 9th inning. It wasn’t surprising however, as the Fish have never lost to the A’s and something always seems to happen to prevent a win.

Marlin’s starter Joe Del Valle cruised through 6 innings surrendering no ER’s, 4 hits, 2 BB’s while striking out 3. Reliever Robb Cymerman came on for the 7th and 8th and showed his decreased innings pitched this season has not disrupted his effectiveness.
Perry Teague, the team’s closer who’s usually lights out, came on in the 9th up 7-1 but struggled a bit with his control. Aided by a couple of hits, errors and wild pitches, the A’s scored 5 runs to come to within 1. With the tying run on 3rd with one out, the Fish put Del Valle back in, in hopes he’d get the win AND the save, but a double before the final out tied the ballgame at 7.

A stunned Marlin’s team gathered outside the dugout to pump themselves back up for the bottom half of the 9th. It worked.
1B Colin Brady roped a double down the left field line to lead things off. Leadoff hitter Bobby Esteves then singled and moved Brady to third. An intentional walk to Shaun Regan to load the bases brought up red hot hitter Todd Teeter with no one out. Teeter hit a shot to right center that the A’s centerfielder actually got to make the catch, but Brady scored to win the game.

Brady was quoted earlier as saying if he didn’t get up to bat in the 8th, he’d let the other team score so he could get up in the 9th. Miraculously that is what exactly happened! He was kidding of course, but he made good with that double.
“I don’t know what happened out there” said Teague on his performance. “I felt great. I just couldn’t get the ball where I wanted it.” “Everyone goes through a rough outing now and again” said manager Rich Musumeci. “He was long overdue.”
Before Tuesday, Teague had surrendered only 1 ER in his first 14+ innings since joining the team.

Offensively the Fish churned out 14 hits good for 8 runs, but 5 errors marred the game.
“That could have been ugly” said Doug Elliott. “This should send a message to the team to not let down until the game is over. The A’s are a solid team that took advantage of everything.”

The Marlins are now tied for first, percentage wise, with the Orlando Reds (11-5-3), but the Reds own the tie breaker due to their victory over them.
As the week plays out, we will know more as to how important the game against the Mets next Sunday is.

If a win means a playoff appearance, Tony Burnham will take the mound for the start. If it has no bearing on the post season, look for a pitch-by-committee day.

**********WHO'S HOT............WHO'S NOT.........**********

May 27, 2006

WHO'S HOT.....
Crazy Joe Del Valle
What an addition this guy hs been.
After a 1 for 11 start, Del Valle has been on a tear going 10 for his last 19, including 2 doubles, 2 triples and 9 RBI's and is currently riding a 6 game hitting streak. He has definitely proved to be the offensive powerhouse the team was looking for.

On the mound, this 38 year old right hander has yet to be scored upon, surrendering 1 unearned run in 20+ innings while winning all three of his starts.

All this for the bargain basement price of a 1st round draft pick in 2007!

Welcome home Joe!!!

WHO'S NOT.......
Janet Jackson

No friggin way! She's more manly than Michael!

MARLINS THUMP METS IN FINALE, TAKE DIVISION TITLE….……

June 4, 2006
“What a difference a year makes” said a jubilant Marlin after Sunday’s win over the Mets. What a difference indeed.
From a 5-16-1 last place finish in 2005, to 12-7-1 and a division title in 2006, these Marlins have come a long way. “We knew the talent was there, we just couldn’t put it all together” said manager Rich Musumeci. “Until now”.

This post season appearance will be the first this organization has ever had, going back to their NABF days as the Cardinals. In only their second year in the MSBL as the Marlins, they take a division title and a playoff berth.
Key additions to the ballclub included free agent utility player Doug Elliott, first round draft pick SS Shaun Regan and P/2B Joe Del Valle, acquired through a trade with the 2005 champion Reds.
Having a healthy Darrin Reichle and Todd Teeter didn't exactly hurt either.

The Marlins played tough all year, but got hot at the right time winning 9 of there last 12 games, scoring 97 runs in that span.
17 of those runs came today against an always tough Mets team (9-12).
Marlin’s starter Tony Burnham faired well until the 3rd, when he had some control problems and walked 3 batters who ended up scoring.
“I felt good out there, I just couldn’t hit my spots” said Bernie. “I’m sure I’ll be fine.”
Burnham, who is scheduled to start the deciding game next Sunday, if needed, has a week to rest and prepare.
Cymerman came on in the 3rd and retired the first 8 batters he faced until surrendering 3 runs (2 earned) in the 6th. Perry Teague, anxious to put his last outing behind him, pitched a solid 7th to finish the game after the Marlins offense pounded out 9 runs to put the game out of reach.

The Marlins offense was on fire churning out 17 runs on 20 hits, responding hardily to both Met rallies as every Marlin batter scored at least once. Just about everyone had a great day, but to name a few; Todd Teeter 3 for 5 with a double and 2 RBI, Darrin Reichle with 2 RBI doubles, C Drew Stafford- 2 for 3 2 RBI and a HBP, Jason Taddie 3 for 4 2 RBI’s and RBI leader on the day, Colin Brady with 3 on 2 singles.

In their 2006 spring finale, the Marlins shattered team records of runs scored (17), hits (20) and runs in an inning (9). “A great time to be playing your best” said utility player Marlyn Kelch. “Right as the post season begins.”

Speaking of the post season, game 1 of the first round is Tuesday, June 6th at 7 PM. Game 2, Thursday June 8th 7PM, and game 3, if needed, will be Sunday AM (time to be announced).
As expected, the Marlins will start Darrin Reichle 6-2, 1.63 ERA and Crazy Joe Del Valle 3-0, 0.00 ERA for Game 1 and 2, but not necessarily in that order. “It will be a game time decision” said Musumeci.
Their opponent? It looks like it will be the Orlando Cardinals, whom they split the season series at 1 a piece.

Come on down and fill the stands!

GREAT job this season guys, especially with the couple of obstacles we had. Lets keep it rolling and enjoy our first post season!!

MARLINS STUN CARDS IN 10 INNING BATTLE, LEAD SERIES 1-0..............

June 6, 2006
Marlin’s utility player Gustavo D’Andrea, thought he wouldn’t be involved in game 1 of the first round playoff series against the Cardinals. Little did he know, with one swing of his pinch hit at bat in the bottom of the 9th, he would become the hero of said game.

The Marlins and Cards squared off for the third time this season, splitting the first 2 at 1 a piece.
The Cards started their ace Andy Boysen, who is one of the top hurlers in the league. The Fish countered with their #1, Darrin Reichle.
After jumping out on top 2-0 in the first, The Cards pulled their starter. Much like what they did in the last meeting between these two teams which ended up in a victory for them.
For the next 7 innings, it looked as though the move may have paid off again.
Down 7-4 heading into the bottom of the 9th, the Marlins finally got a little luck when 3B Doug Elliott reached on an error with 1 down. After a Tony Burnham strikeout, Jason Taddie and Shaun Regan were both hit by pitches to load the bases.
The Cards then called back their lefty starter to get Marlin’s switch hitter Robb Cymerman for the final out.
That’s when the right handed D’Andrea was called upon to pinch hit. After running the count to 3-2, Gustavo jumped on a fastball that soared over the head of LF Mike Belton, clearing the bases and tying the game.
“They did the right thing” said Marlin’s manager Rich Musumeci. “Bring in your best pitcher who happens to be a lefty to pitch to a lefty. I guess they didn’t know we had a big bat still waiting in the wings.”

D’Andrea, who spent most of the night on the bench and warming up pitchers, made his 1 at bat count. “It felt great to help out the team” said D’Andrea. If it was only with 1 at bat, so be it!”

Reliever Perry Teague went to work in the top of the 10th, and struck out 3 of the 4 batters he faced to put the Fish in position to win the game.
After an Esteves single and a Teeter fielder’s choice, Marlins # 3 hitter Joe Del Valle hit a ball hard to the SS and with his hustle, forced the fielder into an errant throw. Teeter to 3rd, Del Valle to 2nd. An intentional walk to deep threat Darrin Reichle to load the bases, brought C Drew Stafford to the plate. Stafford would win the game with a walk off……….HBP. Ok, so it wasn’t as exciting as the bases clearing double, but it won the game!

The Marlins were actually pretty fortunate to only be down 7-4 at that point. 8 errors marred a pretty solid performance for Reichle, who surrendered 2 ER on 9 hits while walking 1 and striking out 7. “Those guys are a scrappy bunch. They just don’t give up.” Said Reichle.

The Fish have to play a much cleaner version of defense if they expect to advance to the next round.

The Marlins may have won the game, but they lost their starting rookie SS Shaun Regan for the remainder of the post season.
Regan was hit by a pitch in the 9th that broke his left forearm. “I heard something ‘crack’” said Regan. “I knew what happened.” Regan stayed in the game, and scored from 1st on D’Andrea’s double.
“That kid refused to seek medical attention until the game was over! That is a team player!” said Musumeci

Game 2 is Thursday night at 7pm. On the hill for the Marlins is Crazy Joe Del Valle, who finished 3-0 with a 0.00 ERA on the regular season. Del Valle will try to wrap up the series with a win, and get his team a date with either the Red Sox or Lakeland Crew for the 2nd round.

Let’s get some more fans in those stands!!!

BURNHAM PROPELS FISH INTO 2ND ROUND WITH CG SHUTOUT............

June 11, 2006
The Orlando Marlins took game 3 of a best of 3 series to advance to the 2nd round of the 2006 playoffs. Marlin's starter Tony Burnham pitched quite possibly, the best game of his career and definitely the most meaningful.

The Marlins, playing in their first post season of their existence, planned on a pitch by committee day, beginning with Burnham. "Bernie had other ideas" said manager on the day, Doug Elliott. Burnham went the distance shutting out the Cardinals striking out 9, while surrendering 3 hits and 4 BB's on the way to a 5-0 victory. "I felt great out there today" said a rejuvenated Burnham. “I was very comfortable and confident with my curveball, which set up my fastball.”
Bernie struggled at times this season after breaking his foot in the off-season. The 2005 stopper wanted to prove to his teammates and himself, that last year was not a fluke.
Manager Rich Musumeci, vacationing and scouting for more talent in N.Y. had this to say in a phone interview right after the game, “We never lost confidence in Bernie. I think he may have lost a little in himself. Hopefully today’s game proves to him he can be a major part of this pitching staff.”

The Marlins are already loaded in that department with Reichle, Del Valle and Groves, but a team can never have enough pitching. “When you throw in the bullpen of Cymerman, Teague and rehabbing closer Jason Taddie, this team should be a regular in post seasons to come” said Musumeci.

The Marlins started their first game of the 2nd playoff round against a powerful Red Sox team, but rain has halted play as of the 6th inning, with the Sox up 7-0.
Play will resume Tuesday night (or next game day depending on the impending storm) with game 2 to follow immediately.

Stay hot boys! Please let Doug know if you can be at the next scheduled game 15 minutes earlier so we can get both games in!
Great job guys!!!

VISORS. COOL, OR NOT COOL......

June 17, 2006

Visors are a wonderful alternative to baseball caps. They look cool and keep your head cool, while using the full functionality of a baseball cap’s brim by keeping the sun out of one’s eyes.
Visors are very popular, and can be seen everywhere from tennis courts to golf courses.

“I love them” said Mildred Steinberg of Boca Raton. “My girlfriends from the retirement home and I won’t wear anything else out here in the hot Florida sun.”

“I wear mine when I watch my grandson play his little league games” said Ida Cohen of Hollywood F.L. “It can get pretty warm in the sun, and I can’t think of anything else that would keep my head cool and the sun out of my eyes.”

Yet another proponent of the “visor”, Blanche Liebowitz had this to say, “My husband won’t wear one, but I think he’s crazy. He says they’re just for women, but I told him I once saw a young man in Orlando wearing one playing baseball! He didn’t look gay to me.”

So there you have it. Visors are cool, in more than one way!

FISH WIN, SOX WHINE..........

June 18, 2006

Marlins take Sox to game 3 of semi-finals behind FILTHY pitching by D-Man Reichle.
Reichle, who owns a 2-0 record against the Sox was perfect through 6, and went the distance surrendering 1 run on 3 hits while striking out 10. Timely hitting and ridiculous defense held the Sox in check after the spanking they put on the Fish the previous game.

The chatter going back and forth has been hilarious, and I know the latest comments do not reflect the whole Red Sox organization, but now it's getting silly.

Let’s entertain some of these accusations, just for shits and giggles........

>“The Marlins have no hope”....Marlins own 2-1 record against the “Other best team in the league” (The fact that you put yourselves in the same status as the Crew is HILARIOUS! You couldn’t carry their JOCKS!)

>“They don’t have tall #27 to pitch”.......Whether we play you clowns Monday, Tuesday or Thursday, you won’t see him. We’re saving him for game 2 of the championship series.

>”They can’t hit Hingle”.....OK, that may be true, but if we couldn’t hit him on Monday, wouldn’t it stand to reason we couldn’t hit him Tuesday as well? OR, Maybe all this whimpering like little puppies left out in the rain is because he can’t make it Tuesday? Hhmmmmmm...

>”Their cheating lineup was discovered”.......In actuality, the “terrible designated fielder” is a better hitter than the guy batting for him! (Sorry Colin, you know I love you and you are improving by the at bat). The whole “illegal” lineup was to get everyone involved in a playoff game while keeping a small lineup. We had it done to us,twice, and assumed we could do the same.
If you honestly think that our lineup cost you the game, you are still liquored up from your night at the Parliament house Saturday.

D-Man, or “tall #27" is wayyy to nice and classy of a guy to say it................BUT I AIN’T!,
He beat you like a rented JACKASS! Maybe you’d like to borrow our Tom Emanski videos on how to hit curve balls and off speed stuff? Send me your address, I’ll FEDEX them! My treat.

What is the rush to lose to the Crew? If the Reds had won one of the games, we’d ALL be playing Tuesday with no crying! Take your loss like a man! Cowboy up and come back Tuesday and beat us!
If the situation were reversed, we’d have NO PROBLEM playing Tuesday. We’d want to beat you with your full team there, not by forfeit!
Commish did the right thing. It’s called INTEGRITY OF THE LEAGUE.

See ya Tuesday, BEotch!

Let's fill those stands with Fish Fans!!....
The Fish will be, BRINGING ON THE HAMMER.......stay tuned...........

FISH RUN OUT OF STEAM, SOX TO FACE CREW IN CHAMPIONSHIP.............

June 20, 2006

The Orlando Red Sox defeated our beloved Marlins 11-6 in the semi final rubber match. The Fish played tough and got a few runs across off the tough left hander Larry Hingle, but the Sox offense was just too tough and continued to come up with key hits in critical situations.

Congratulations to the Red Sox on making it to the championship series in their first year! Quite an accomplishment.

I will post stats tomorrow for the whole post season, so check back!

OUTSTANDING SEASON MARLINS! Keep those heads up!!!!!

MARLINS MAKE SOME NOISE IN SECOND SEASON........

July 9, 2006
Well gentlemen that was one heck of a ride! From last place in 2005, to a division title and a game away from the championship series against the Crew in 2006! I was told earlier in the season that no team has ever made the playoffs in their 2nd season in this league. Well, we did! We were overshadowed only by the Red Sox' run in their first.
We were a relief pitcher and a couple of key hits from glory. Let’s pin this on Jimmy! It’s his fault! That would have been one hell of an arm to go to in the critical situations we had in the playoffs.

Joe Del Valle, way to battle buddy! Unfortunately we seemed to not have anyone available out of the penn to back you up when you took the mound.
Thanks to Glenn for volunteering/sacrificing himself in game 2 against the Cards. That was not a position I wanted to put you in, considering the minimal work you had off the mound during the season. Great job!
Thanks to Doug Elliott for filling in for me when I was away and giving me a chance to catch one more playoff game. Thanks to everyone for having my back during that umpire fiasco and for a FANTASTIC season!

We will get to practicing for the fall season in a couple of weeks and plan on a welcome home BBQ for Jimmy in August. Until then, enjoy the rest and check out the post season wrap up for your enjoyment………………………..

THE MOST IMPROVED TEAM IN 2006.....
The Orlando Marlins had big plans after their last place finish in 2005. How could they not? They picked up two solid players in Perry Teague and Gustavo D’Andrea in the fall draft, they had the first pick in the upcoming 2006 spring draft, staff ace Darrin Reichle seemed to be on the mend from his spring shoulder strain and 1B Todd Teeter’s elbow surgery was a success and was 100% for the spring 2006 season, all this adding to a solid core that already existed.

After declining last minute to a deal that would have brought Reds P/2B Joe Del Valle to the Marlins in exchange for the 1st pick in the spring draft, the Marlins nabbed SS/P Shaun Regan. The Fish were hoping to grab a catcher in the draft but ended up with a speedy solid infielder who contributed immediately.
Marlins brass was able to revive that Del Valle deal several weeks into the season, as they sent there 2007 pick to the Reds.
Another solid pick up to this year’s squad was C/IF Doug Elliott. Elliott was a walk on during spring training after contacting the team inquiring about the league. Another score!

The Marlins were now armed with some serious weapons and had high hopes.

After going .500 in their first 4 games, the Fish felt they let the opener get away,
losing 5-4 to the A’s, aided by some heinous calls against them.
They bounced back with a solid effort against the Mets, as Reichle and Cymerman combined for a 5-2 victory.

Game 3 brought a showdown with the Division favorite and defending champion Orlando Reds. The Fish jumped on top 1-0 in the first and led until the 5th inning when the Reds broke it open with 4 runs. Starting pitcher Jimmy Groves, whose defense behind him was less than stellar, was replaced by reliever Keith Beck who faired no better and was tagged with 7 runs, 4 earned as the Marlins were run ruled 11-1.

D-Man brought the Marlins back to .500 with a convincing 8-0 complete game 1 hit shutout against the Yankees in game 4.
Analysts said, that performance showed this kid was back and healthy and ready to lead his team to glory.

Unfortunately, the Fish dropped 3 of their next 4 games, including a 10-0 drubbing by the Cubs in which Reichle was roughed up for 11 hits in 6 innings while still managing to strike out 13.

Now, something interesting happened after the 8-4 loss to the Pirates on March 14th.
5 days later, the Marlins won a battle against the Cardinals 7-6 in the bottom of the 9th. The catalyst was believed to be a 6 inch plastic genie named Gary. “Gary” was found in the dugout that night and has remained with the team since.
After declaring him the savior, the Fish traded for the services of P/2B “Crazy” Joe Del Valle. Del Valle joined the team the next game and the Fish went on to win 9 of the next 12.

In that run, the Marlins had key wins against the A’s, Red Sox and Titans and took the division with 17-6 pounding against the division rival Mets and the Fish celebrated their first post season appearance, despite the loss of P Jimmy Groves.

The playoffs began against a tough Cardinals team that the Marlins had 2 interesting games under their belts with already. The 7-6 see-saw battle and the umpire aided loss in their second meeting.

Game 1 of the best of 3 series had the Marlins down 6-2 at one point, before some last minute heroics from utility player Gustavo D’ Andrea. Down 7-4 with bases loaded and 2 out in the bottom of the 9th, D’Andrea was called upon to pinch hit for Robb Cymerman. D’Andrea took the count to 3-2 before roping a shot to the base of the left field fence for a bases clearing game tying double.
The Marlins pulled out the win in the 10th on a bases loaded HBP RBI by C Drew Stafford.

In game 2, the Cards gave the fish a taste of their own come-from-behind medicine, as they overcame a 7-0 deficit to win 8-7 in the bottom of the 9th, breaking Marlin fans hearts and forcing a game 3 showdown. A lack of pitching depth could be blamed on that one, as the Fish did not have Jimmy Groves to go to in a critical situation.

The Fish sent Tony Burnham to the mound in the rubber match and all he did was shut the Red Birds down with a 5-0 complete game gem, setting his team up against the Red Sox later that afternoon for the semi finals.

Thanks AGAIN to Jimmy Groves, the Marlins were thin on pitching, as Marlins starter Robb Cymerman was shelled by the Sox, 11-0.

Darrin “D-Man” Reichle took the mound in game two and man handled the Sox with a 3 hit complete game win to force a game 3.

The deciding game was a battle, as league officials and league members joined many Red Sox and Marlins fans in watching to see who would face the league favorite Crew in the championship.
The Red Sox, armed with their ace, fell behind quick on a Todd Teeter solo home run in the top of the first, but the powerful Sox lineup came back with 3 in the 1st and 1 in the 2nd going up 4-1.
Marlins starter Joe Del Valle settled down and allowed his team a chance to tie the game up 4-4 in the 3rd , but after keeping the game within 1 through 7innings, the Marlins defense collapsed and the Sox pulled away to stay sending the Fish home for the summer with an 11-6 win.

Were the Marlins disappointed? Sure. But looking back from where they came from last season, there is nothing but optimism in this clubhouse.
The Fish will rest a few weeks before heading back out to the baseball diamond for the fall season.
Can they pull off a fall championship? Stay tuned……………….

LADIES AND GENTLEMEN, YOUR 2006 ORLANDO MARLINS;....

#16 Colin Brady- OF/1B/P- Seldom used Marlin. Made the best of his playing time with some clutch at bats during the season and playoffs. Marlins are hoping he comes back in the fall to give him some playing time, keep up his progress and to get some pitching work in.

#5 Tony Burnham- P/Utility - Started the season slow after breaking foot in off season. Finished with .333 avg. and second on the team in RBI’s despite 0 for 22 start.
Took a while to get going on the mound this season after 2005 All Star selection, but excelled in post season with game 3 win over Cardinals. Played OF and filled in behind the plate with much success.

#3 Robb Cymerman- P/2B- Switch hitter’s average was up from last season. Unfortunately, so was ERA. Finished with career high .400 average and 5 RBI’s in only 9 games. On the mound Cym finished 1-0 with a save and a 4.50 ERA. Not horrendous, but not Cymerman-like numbers. Seemed very hittable at times. Critics blame the 2005 4th of July arm breakages of teammates for Cym’s mental state. “I can’t get those sounds out of my head” said Cym.

#31 Gustavo D’Andrea- Utility - Best 2nd round pick the team ever spent. Avg was down from career numbers, but productivity was there with .352 OBP and 7 RBI’s, good enough for 3rd on the team.
Had unbelievable post season leading the team with a .556 avg. and 7 RBI’s, matching his regular season RBI total.
Coupled with Burnham at bottom of the order makes for a vicious lineup. Look for this guy to keep it going.

#42 Joe Del Valle- P/IF - Mid-season acquisition. Batted .343 despite slow start and thrived with runners in scoring position with 10 RBI’s in only10 games played. Bat speed is second only to NY Yankee, Gary Sheffield. Ideal # 3 hitter. Should have continued success and productivity surrounded by Teeter, Stafford and the Reichles.
Oh yeah, he can pitch too. Finished regular season with 0.00 ERA. Yes, you read it correctly, 0.00 ERA. Surrendered only 1 unearned run in over 20 innings of work (3 starts, 2 relief appearances). A first rate addition.

#21 Doug Elliott- IF/C- What a find. Elliott was impressed with team after joining as a non-roster invitee. Team was equally impressed as they signed him after his first workout. Brought a big stick, sticky glove, lots of experience and a positive attitude to the team. “This guy fits right in.” said a teammate. “It’s like he’s been playing with us forever.” Elliott put too much pressure on himself, and wasn’t happy with his overall performance. Fish thought he was great, but can’t wait to see more. Figures to be a solid mainstay for years to come.

#24 Bobby Esteves- OF - Long time Marlin leadoff man. Had typical solid season the Fish have grown accustom to; High average, SB leader and great defensive play. Had some key catches and throws during season and playoffs. Known for his “Crow hop” style, has a flat out gun to the plate. Throws strikes from CF. From the mound, not so accurate. Hence, the lack of his name in the pitchers stats page.

#1 Gary- Mascot/Good luck charm - Appeared mysteriously during Cardinal game on March 19th. Fish rolled through remainder of season with him on board. Will remain with team after signing contract extension an hour after Marlin's last game. Touch him nicely, you'll succeed. Piss him off, your toast.

#44 Jimmy Groves- P/3B - Oh Jimmy! Third baseman with a cannon. Solid SP and LF too. Offensive numbers down a bit, but still solid. Tied for team lead with HR’s (1). 1-2 record 3.21 ERA tells nothing of his importance to the team, but All Star selection did. Huge hole left when he departed for Canada. Fish blame lack of championship on him. Team plans on caning him on his return.

#17 Marlyn Kelch- 2B/OF - Improved at the plate. Strike outs down, 22 in 46 AB in 05, to 3 in 22 AB in 06. You will not blow a fastball by him. Plays 110 percent every game. Spent some time on DL due to playing too hard! Look for continued improvement and more time in the OF where he excelled this season.

#00 Rich Musumeci- OF/EH - Injury plagued season. Ribs and knee kept him out early on and back did him in towards the end. Vows to return in fall season lighter (not faster), healthier and ready to contribute. “Orlando’s overall pizza consumption will be down this summer!” said Musumeci.

#6 Shaun Regan- IF/P- aka. Shaunaka Brown. Rookie of the year honors (in Marlin’s eyes). Had great season in the field. Solid offensively, but Fish know he’ll only get better. Post season cut short during first game with broken arm on a HBP. Hopes to be ready before mid-fall season. Look for his upcoming Hip Hop CD titled, “Broken Bones” in stores late August.

#27 Darrin Reichle- P/OF - 06 All-Star rep. Clearly the franchise. Arguably the best pitcher in the league at 40. Responsible for half the team’s wins, and post season run. Excelled again as Marlin’s cleanup hitter. Dangerous from both sides of the plate, but had more broken bats then hits. Tied with 2 others for RBI (12) and HR (1) lead. Second only to Teeter in slugging percentage. Success of team clearly lies in his hands (no pressure).

#007 Glenn Reichle- 1B/OF/P - Not a bad season for someone who wasn’t sure if they wanted to play. Dangerous #6 hitter batted .360, big HR in game vs. Crew, solid defense all season and topped it off with an All-Star appearance. Fish looking forward to having him in lineup for a long time.

#11 Drew Stafford- C- Where would this team be without Mr. Clutch? Lead team in RBI’s despite lower than normal Avg. An absolute force to be reckoned with behind the plate. Disrupted opposing team’s running games all season. Big hole in lineup when not there. Fish hope he makes more games than he misses.

#13 Jason Taddie- Utility- Is this guy's arm for real? Filled in admirably for Stafford behind the dish. Lightening quick delivery to 2nd base. Spent last part of season as DH due to elbow rehab. Marlins hope to name him the closer in 07.

#2 Perry Teague- IF/P- Has better stick than 06 Avg. indicates. Fish will give him plenty of AB’s in fall to work it out. Defensively team didn’t lose anything wherever he played. Solid on the mound as well. Should Taddie take closer job next spring, look for Teague to take long relief/spot starter role.

#23 Todd Teeter- 1B/OF- Should challenge D-Man for MVP votes. Had stellar season returning from elbow surgery. Lead team in Avg., hits, triples, RBI’s and SLG %.
Post season numbers equally as impressive. Ran away with ridiculous .864 SLG %.
Not the ideal # 2 hitter, Fish would like to drop him down a bit to drive in more runs, but its fun to watch him bunt.

MARLINS MAKE SOME UNEXPECTED ROSTER MOVES...........

August 31, 2006
The Orlando Marlins, who were planning on heading into the 2006 fall season with the identical roster as the spring season, were forced to sign a few new ballplayers.

Players taking the fall season off include; 1B/OF/P Glenn Reichle and P/2B Robb Cymerman, while C Drew Stafford will miss at least the first 4-5 weeks due to work commitments.

Glenn will be traveling alot this fall for work and pleasure, and Cymerman's work load is a bit heavy, not to mention the problems from his back injury. Cym aggrevated his back while picking up a basket of laundry (thats right, give him hell), but is expected to be ready to go by the 2007 spring season.

With that said, the Marlins would like to welcome ex-Yankee P/2B Scott Borges and MSBL rookies, OF Jose Rosado and P/OF Steven Tolbert.
Scott will see action out of the bullpen, giving teams a "different look" from the power-pitching-heavy staff the Marlins have now, and Steven gives the Fish a lefty out of the pen they haven't had since Rob Hancock's pitching career ending injury back in 05.

Jose, who has played ball with current Marlin pitcher Joe Del Valle, gives the Marlins another strong outfield arm and what seems to be a promising bat.
Welcome to the Marlins boys!

Practice resumes this Sunday at 9am at Lee Rd.
Unfortunately we don't have a enough of a turnout for Saturdays scrimmage against the Yankees, but if the season doesn't start next week, we'll try to set something up.

See the select few of you Sunday...BRING $$$$!

MARLINS TO UNVEIL NEW UNIFORMS IN SEASON OPENER................

September 15, 2006
Thanks to J&J Builders and a couple of other sponsors soon to be listed, the Orlando Marlins will be sporting some sharp uniforms on opening night, Sunday 9/17.

Talks with the sponsors have been in the works for weeks, and it finally all came together late this afternoon.

The Marlins new threads will be the black MLB Marlin's batting jerseys with white pants, with black socks, black cap and black belt.

The teal shirts/grey pants we have all grown to LOVE, will still be used in the spring/summer season as a mid-day alternate (no one wants to wear black in 98 degree heat).

Come on down and fill the stands for opening night and be the first to check out the new duds!

On the mound for the Marlins will be Crazy Joe Del Valle, who finished the regular spring season 3-0 with a 0.00 ERA.

YANKS SPOIL MARLIN'S PARTY.........

September 18, 2006
The Orlando Marlins (0-1) had some new players, new hopes and new uniforms to begin a new season, but the old luck was still there.
For the 4th consecutive season (2 spring, 2 fall) the Fish lost their opener, this time 3-1 to a drastically improved Yankees squad (1-0), that took advantage of some timely hits and great pitching, while committing only 1 harmless error. The Yankees worked hard in the offseason, and it showed.

Three Yankee pitchers kept the Marlin offense at bay, surrendering 1 lone run in the first inning on a sac fly. The Fish had bases loaded with nobody out twice in the game, but could only produce the 1 run. They also left several runners in scoring position in 3 separate innings.

Marlin’s starting pitcher Joe Del Valle looked solid in his 3 inning stint, striking out 4 while walking 2 and surrendering 1 hit.
Darrin Reichle came on in the 4th and retired 6 of the first 7 batters he faced, before getting into a little trouble in the 6th. After a lead off walk and a double, Yankee hitters rose up and managed 2 singles off the Marlins ace, good enough for 3 runs.
Ex-Yankee Scott Borges shut down his former teammates for the last 2 innings, giving his new team a chance to come back.
The Fish tried to get something going in the 9th on a lead off error and a 2 out walk, but couldn’t pull it off.
Defensively, the Fish were pretty solid with great plays at third from Jimmy Groves and Joe Del Valle, solid play behind the dish by Tony Burnham and Jason Taddie and a very good performance at 1B from Colin Brady.

Despite the loss, there were some good things that came out of last night’s game;
Rookie outfielders Jose Rosado and Steven Tolbert look to be like solid pick ups. “They can cover some ground out there, and they have pretty strong arms to boot” said utility player Marlyn Kelch. “And Scott Borges looks as if he will fit in nicely in the middle innings between those big guns we have”
The Fish looked pretty good out there as well with their new uniforms, compliments of Joe Del Valle’s J&J Builders, Jose Rosado and Tony Burnham’s Oerther Foods.

It was a great night for baseball as fans were treated to some great pitching, defense and officiating.

The Marlins travel to Lakeland next Sunday 9/24, for a date with the Orlando MSBL elite Crew at beautiful Henley field. Game time is 11 am, with the team meeting at the Hooters on US 98 (exit 33? off I-4) at 9:45-10am.

Starting pitcher for the good guys has not been determined as of yet, but figure Joe Del Valle or home town hero Jimmy Groves to get the nod.

Once again, thank you Crazy Joe Del Valle and J&J Builders for the generous donation of the jerseys, Jose Rosado and his company for the numbers and socks, and Tony Burnham and Oerther foods for the awesome pants. Everything looks great!!!

MARLINS LOSE TWO KEY PLAYERS......

September 29, 2006
The Orlando Marlins suffered a huge setback as 1B Todd Teeter and C/Utility Jason Taddie are lost for the season.

Taddie, who was being counted upon for his lightening quick arm behind the dish while filling in for C Drew Stafford, is being temporarily sent to New Jersey by his job. “I will be in Jersey until at least January, possibly February” said a disenchanted Taddie. “I was looking forward to getting back out there after my arm problems in the spring.” Taddie was relegated to DH duties towards the end of last season due to tendon issues in his right elbow but was penciled in as the starting catcher for the fall after a successful rehab stint.

“J.T. looked good on opening day” said manager Rich Musumeci. “He had a couple of throws down to 2nd base that looked real nice and he experienced no pain in his elbow, which was a great sign. It is going to be difficult with out him back there, we don’t know when or if Stafford plans on making it back for this fall season.”

The other pill the Fish have to swallow is 1B Todd Teeter’s fractured foot. After running out a base hit against the Yankees on opening day, Teeter felt a sharp pain in his foot after making the turn at first. X-rays revealed a hairline fracture in one of the bones in his foot believed to be caused by the soft infield around first base that day.
“I kind of felt it when it happened, but didn’t think much of it until after a week and a half went by with no relief” said Teeter.

Doctors say it could be as little as 6 weeks or as much as the whole season. It all depends how it heals without a boot that Teeter refused, because it would physically hinder his ability to do his job.

Two major blows to an already struggling offense the Fish did not need.

It will be a tough road for these Fish, especially after their 0-2 start, but hopefully they will rebound and get everyone back in the spring at full strength.

MARLINS REEL IN METS, 5-1.......

October 1, 2006
When the Marlins (1-2) traded for SP Joe Del Valle back in March, they knew they were getting a quality starter. But what they didn’t know was how dominant he would actually be.
In his 5th start and 6th appearance for his new team in regular season games, Del Valle has yet to surrender an earned run. He now stands at 4-0 as a Marlin in spring and fall season combined, sporting that 0.00 ERA.

Making his 2nd start of this young fall season, the veteran right hander went 7 innings against an always tough Orlando Mets squad surrendering only 2 hits, 1 unearned run while striking out 4. The only scary number next to his name is the 8 walks he issued, but 2 of them came in the 1st inning when Del Valle attempted the start without warming up. The others can be blamed on very wet baseballs that kept him from getting a good “snap” off for his curveballs which he had a hard time throwing for strikes.
Despite the problems, he was able to keep Met’s batters off balance and his team in the game.

Del Valle brought his hitting shoes to the party as well, going 3 for 3 with a walk, RBI and a SB, completing the package good enough to earn him Player of the Game honors.

Other notable performances include; Tony Burnham, who had a solid game as Del Valle’s battery mate, CF Bobby Esteves’s double in the 6th inning, putting Doug Elliott in position to score on a sac fly and scoring a run himself off an errant throw, giving the Marlins some breathing room, 5-1.
And lastly, Scott Borges’ perfect 8th inning, where he struck out the side to slam the door and solidify the Marlins first win of the fall campaign.

It was a great win for a team that desperately needed one to avoid falling too far behind in a division that’s proving to be a tough one.

The Fish have 2 challenging games coming up. The first, this Thursday night when Darrin Reichle, who is penciled in for his first start, tries to make the Pirates (1-0) walk the plank, and Sunday finds Joe Del Valle facing some of his ex-teammates as he attempts to loosen the Lugnuts (2-0-1). Both games are at 7pm at Jones H.S. field 2.

Come on out and show your support!

LUGNUTS MANHANDLE FISH, 8-2.........

October 6, 2006
“That was no expansion team” muttered a Marlin player making that long loser’s walk to the parking lot Sunday night.
No, it is not.
The Orlando Lugnuts (3-0-1) are not an inexperienced fledgling team by any means.

“That club is essentially a group of solid veteran ball players, assembled from several other teams.” said Marlin’s manager Rich Musumeci.
With the likes of Cub’s Dan Sugar and Chris Fisher, former 2004 MSBL Champion Orlando Yankee’s staff ace Jeff Francher, and a plethora of former 2005 Champion Reds including Jay Bengert, Matt Jantomaso, Tom Dirscherl and Ed Rubiera, this star-studded cast is a lock for the post season.

On the way to glory, they stopped off to beat up on a banged up Marlin team trying to piece together some sort of a competitive lineup without their sluggers Teeter, Stafford, Glenn Reichle and newly acquired J.C. Farias.
‘Nuts SP Jeff Francher, manhandled the Fish for 8 innings until they were able to scratch 2 runs across in the 9th as Francher began to tire, but it was a little too little, a little too late. The Lugnuts had already built an 8 run lead off some timely hits and a few Marlin gifts disguised as errors.

Marlin’s starter Joe Del Valle pitched a heck of a game keeping a potent offense off balance, surrendering 3 ER on 6 hits and 3 walks while striking out 9 through 5 1/3. Jimmy Groves came on in relief in the 6th in a rare appearance this fall and was very effective despite a few errors behind him, giving up an unearned run, 3 hits, 2 walks and striking out 3 in 2 2/3.

The main problem of the night was the Marlin offense which continues to struggle. Being held to 2 hits through the first 7 innings put the team in a hole they couldn’t crawl out of.
Through 5 games, the Fish are averaging a paltry 2.8 runs per game this season and need to do something quick if they plan on playing “free baseball” this post season.

To make matters worse, the Fish were bitten by the injury bug, yet again, this time a 2 for 1 deal.
Veteran utility player Tony Burnham injured his Achilles in the 2nd inning when trying to retrieve a passed ball in time to throw out the runner at the plate. Instead, his foot got caught in the soft, recently laid clay and had to be replaced in the lineup by fellow utility, Marlyn Kelch.
Rookie Jose Rosado, who has been playing through pain the past two games, re-aggravated his groin injury and had to leave the game in the 8th.
Both players are day to day as the Marlins wait to here about there status.

It doesn’t get any easier for the good guys, as the Juice are waiting take their shot at the wounded 2006 spring division champs this Sunday 10/15, 3:30pm at Zinn Beck Field in Sanford. The Marlins are hoping a new venue and revamped lineup can spark an offensive output.
On the hill for the Fish is Darrin Reichle 1-1 3.29 ERA, looking to give his team another lift.

GO FISH!!!!!!!!

REICHLE, MARLINS COOL OFF HOT PIRATES, 4-0........

October 6, 2006
Any fans wondering where Marlin’s ace Darrin Reichle has been need not wonder anymore. Wherever he was, he’s back.
After two sub-par relief appearances this fall season, D-Man may have pitched one of the best games of his amateur career Thursday night against the high powered offense of the Orlando Pirates.
The Pirates (2-1) came into last night’s game averaging 12.5 runs per game. All Reichle did was dismantle it, surrendering only 2 hits while compiling a career best and franchise record 17 strikeouts, en-route to a complete game shutout.

“I didn’t think he’d even be able to make his start, let alone dominate such a potent offense” said manager Rich Musumeci. Reichle’s knee swelled up and he was barely able to put pressure on it after fouling a pitch off of it Sunday morning against the Mets. “It was hurting pretty bad Monday, but thanks to my girlfriend who happens to be a witch doctor, I was able to recover and help the team” said Reichle.
Coincidentally, she was since hired as the team’s chief medical consultant.

A great pitching performance is always aided by solid defensive play which D-Man saw, save three harmless errors in the 5th and 8th.
Leading the way was 3B Jimmy Groves with several outstanding plays, two of which found him charging slow grounders which probably would be infield hits for anyone else, but Groves’ cannon of an arm turned them into outs.

Marlin hitters managed to scatter 7 hits off tough Pirates starter Jeff Shebovsky, who gave up only 2 ER keeping his team in the game throughout the night.
The Marlins began their scoring in the 3rd after a leadoff walk to 2B Perry Teague and a single by SS Shaun Regan. EH Rich Musumeci moved the runners over on a sac bunt, and rookie J.C. Farias in his first at bat, blasted a shot to CF for a sac fly scoring Teague.
C Doug Elliott drove in the 2nd run in the 4th with a two out single to left scoring LF Jose Rosado. The scrappy Marlins tacked on 2 more in the 5th and held on for the win, 4-0.

D-Man clearly earned Player of the Game honors, but game balls go out to his battery mate Doug Elliott, 3B Jimmy Groves, SS Shaun Regan’s return to the lineup with a 2 for 2 effort with a BB and SB, and newest Marlin OF/IF Juan Farias’ instant contribution to the team. Actually, the whole squad deserves game balls, as everyone contributed in this one!

With the win, the Marlins improved to 2-2, and are tied for 3rd with the Reds in the black and blue Jim Krall division.

Next up for the Fish are the Orlando Lugnuts (2-0-1), Sunday 7pm at Jones H.S.
On the mound for the Marlins will be Crazy Joe Del Valle 1-0 0.00 ERA, who’ll be trying to get his team over .500 for the first time this season.

Welcome aboard J.C.! Welcome back D-Man!
GO FISH!!

IN OTHER NEWS.....
.........After losing Utiity player Jason Taddie and 1B Todd Teeter indefinitely, the Marlins went out and signed OF/IF Juan "J.C." Farias. The Venezualan born 28 year old will take Teeter's spot on the roster in hopes to somehow compensate for the team batting champs absence. "This kid can flat out play" said Utility player and team scout Gustavo D'Andrea. "I have played against him in softball leagues where he was wasting his talents, so I've seen him in action."
Farias is no stranger to baseball. Aside from playing in his native country, J.C. played as recently as 18 months ago in an 18+ league in Miami.
"I couldn't take playing slow pitch softball anymore" said Farias. I didn't know this league existed. I thank Gustavo and the Marlins for giving me this opportunity. They won't be disappointed!"

J.C. has some big shoes to fill, but by the looks of it he should be a very solid presence for the team.

...........Former troubled Marlin SS Brian Joslin is in the news again. This time in a positive way. Joslin has traded his Rachels V.I.P. membership card for a tennis racquet.
"Buzzy" has been tearing up the Live Oak Tennis circuit constantly defeating former tennis pro, Craig Hechler.
Buzzy hasn't ruled out returning to the ballclub, but has not set a time table for his return. "I am really enjoying the healthy lifestyle again." said Joslin. "When I am tired of winning all the time at tennis, I will contemplate my return to baseball".

..........The Marlins are toying with the idea of entering their first tournament in January. The Disney Classic, held at the Wide World of Sports complex at where else, Disney World, hosts teams from all over the country, including several from our home city.
If you are interested, or know someone that may be as well, let management know.
Doug Elliott will be spearheading this venture, so keep an eye out for info from him heading your way.

BY THE NUMBERS..........

18.....Number of innings Marlin pitchers have gone without surrendering an earned run.

26.....Runners left in scoring position in 4 games this season.

346....Projected amount of strikeouts Jimmy groves will have by seasons end.

FISH GET JUICED, LOSE 4-1........

October 16, 2006
Another tough match up, another tough loss. The Orlando Marlins (2-4) couldn’t capitalize on a solid outing on the hill from Darrin Reichle on Sunday, who kept a very strong team in check most of the day.

The Juice (5-2), were held to 2 runs through D-Mans’s 7 innings of work, on 11 hits 2 walks and 8 K’s, but tacked on 2 more in the 8th on a blast over the right field wall off reliever Scott Borges. Joe Del Valle came in to put out the fire, retiring all 3 batters he faced.

Offensively, the Fish were held in check, managing only 1 run and 6 hits with 2 of those hits belonging to C Doug Elliott who scored the team’s only run on a Jose Rosado single in the 2nd.
Elliott finished the day 2 for 3 with 2 doubles and a run scored and another solid day behind the dish, good enough for player of the game honors.
Rosado, who continues to battle injuries but still manages to get in the lineup to help the team, had to leave the game early again, this time after the 3rd inning due to a sprained ankle.
"If we can keep that guy healthy, we’d have a heck of a weapon” said manager Rich Musumeci. Rosado suffered his 3rd injury in 3 games so far this season, first a pulled groin, then a strained hamstring and now an ankle injury.
His status for this Sunday’s game vs. Deltona is uncertain at this time, but knowing this bulldog, he’ll be ready to start.

As the offensive woes continue for this squad, management isn’t exactly panicking.
“We are missing a few of our stars right now, and the ones that are in the lineup are in a bit of a slump” said Musumeci. “Combine that with a very tough schedule and what you have is a team that appears to be worse off than it actually is. Our defense for the most part is playing well enough to win and our pitching staff has put together some solid outings. Our hitting will come around and we will be fine. The fall season is basically a dozen glorified practice games. What this ball club should be working on is its fundamentals. We need to know what to do on the base paths in certain situations, like watching where the ball is hit and WATCHING FOR SIGNS! We should also be focusing on defense and our approach at the plate.”

While it would be nice to take a fall championship, it will be awful tough for the Marlins to overcome the hole they have dug themselves in at 2-4, the losses due to injury they have incurred and a grueling schedule compared to the teams ahead of them in the division.
The focus in this clubhouse at this point seems to be just to stay healthy and improve the team’s overall play in order to contend for a spring championship.
Hang in there Marlin players and fans, things aren’t as “smelly” as they seem!

Next up for the Fish is the expansion team from Deltona, which doesn’t seem to have a nickname. Taking the start will be Crazy Joe Del Valle 1-1 1.65, with lots of relievers looking for work behind him.
Game time is 8:30 am at Zinn Beck. Thanks to those who came out this past weekend which might have been our largest crowd in franchise history! Hoping to see another great turnout, but with the early game time it doesn’t look too promising.

GO FISH!!!!

DELTONA DOWNS MARLINS, 5-3............

October 27, 2006
Another poor offensive output, another loss. Such has been the story of the fall 06 Orlando Marlins (2-5). Seven hits, which is more than most of the previous games, but only 3 runs across is just not enough to overtake some very competitive teams in the Central Florida MSBL.
The Deltona squad (2-6) has been involved in a 5-3 score in its last 4 games, so they are playing some tough ball as of late. Still, it is believed the Fish should have won this game.
But win or lose, it’s basically just a season to gel a little more and to see what the team has in its newcomers.

One newcomer, SS/2B Danny Lopez made his debut with the team this week, and even though the Fish didn’t get to see that much of what he can offer, what they did see on one play was something to get excited about.
On a ball hit to the left of a diving 3B Jimmy Groves, Lopez made a nifty slide on one knee to his right to smother the ball and attempt to record an out. The ball was hit so far to his right, he really had no business even getting to it, let alone trying to get the out. The ball was thrown off line and the runner was safe, but to see this guy get to a ball so quickly after not playing in 6 years, makes one quite excited to see how he fairs in the spring after a few games and a spring training under his belt.

Marlin’s starter Joe Del Valle pitched well enough to win going 7 2/3, surrendering 3 earned runs on 6 hits and 8 walks while striking out 6.
Reliever Perry Teague looked solid coming on in relief in the 8th for his first action off the mound this fall, giving up an unearned run.

Offensively, it was the Doug Elliott show for the second week in a row, as the cagy veteran drove in 2 of the Marlins 3 runs going 2 for 3 and hitting the ball with authority, earning him the J&J Builders Player of the Game honors for the 2nd time in as many games. One Marlin was quoted as saying “maybe it should be called the anabolic-steroid-Player-of-the-Game when Doug gets it. Whey protein my a**!”
Also worthy of mention is Bobby Esteves, who went 2 for 4 with an RBI single in the 9th to keep the rally alive. He also gunned down a runner at the plate in the Deltona half of the 7th to keep the score tied at the time.

Deltona pieced together some hits and walks and took advantage of a Marlin miscue for a 3 run 7th, giving them enough breathing room to beat the good guys.

A .210 team batting average pretty much tells the tale of what’s going on in Marlinville, but as each loss in this fall season piles on, Marlin players wait with increasing anticipation, for the upcoming 2007 spring season.
The problems that this team is going through now will surely be fixed and the team, as a whole, will be healthy and fresh and ready to go.

Next up for the Marlins are the Central Florida Cardinals, Sunday October 29th at Jones H.S. field #1. Taking the hill for the Fish will be RHP Jimmy Groves 0-1 6.14 ERA making his 2nd start of the season.
Game time is 3:30pm, and don’t forget to set your clocks back Saturday night otherwise you’ll be real early…which wouldn’t be a bad thing.

GO FISH!!!

IN OTHER NEWS………

............Congratulations are in order for our league mates The Lakeland Crew, as they shuffled off to Vegas, kicked ass and took names….. And also took home the championship!
Nice going guys, way to represent!

Also worthy of a congratulatory note is our very own league commissioner Brian Blevins. Brian was recently inducted in the MSBL/MABL Hall Of Fame for his tireless efforts in keeping baseball alive in Central Florida.
The Orlando Reds manager is now in his 13th season as league commissioner, and with any luck will continue to lead us indefinitely!
Congrats Captain!
(you can catch the article in this fall’s Hardball Magazine mailed to your homes on page 22.)

.........The Marlins added yet another quality ballplayer this week in SS/2B Danny Lopez. Lopez was signed for his experience as a solid infielder, which says nothing about the confidence the Marlins have in the crew they have now.
"We just felt that this guy could only help us" said Marlin's manager Rich Musumeci. "Whats wrong with having more than 2 or 3 great shortstops? I'd rather see him in our uniform, not someone elses!"

Rumors had circulated about the team's disappointment with Shaun on the recent release of his controversial Hip Hop CD, Broken Bones.
Sources have quoted high ranking team officials regarding the album. "Trash, absolute trash!" said one long time team executive.
But team president and manager Musumeci, denies the signing has anything to do with Regan's desire to make terrible music.

Regan was not available for comment about the signing, but Marlin management insists it is no reflection on how Regan has done.
"Shaunika has been awesome" said a team spokesperson. "We have all the confidence in the world in him. This just gives us some added security and depth at the position."

GROVES TOO MUCH FOR DEPLETED CARDS........

October 30, 2006
It was a beautiful day for a baseball game, but unfortunately most of the Central Florida Cardinal players didn't think so as only 7 showed up to play.
For yet another game, the Cardinals (0-9) have not had enough players to field a team, let alone a competitive one. This squad in no way resembles the foes the Marlins faced in the spring playoffs, but make no mistake; This same bunch of guys scored 10 runs in the 2nd game of their double header to fall 1 run short against the Deltona team, so they were not incapable.

Marlin’s starter Jimmy Groves looked sharp in his 5 inning complete game gem, allowing just 2 hits while striking out 9 and walking none.
His offense gave him plenty of support banging out 10 runs, and the defense played stellar behind him, recording 1 harmless error. Rookie SS Danny Lopez showed once again the talent he possesses, literally stealing a hit away from a Cardinal batter on a ball hit up the middle. Utility player Marlyn Kelch played solid at 2B, and the Marlin’s regular SS Shaun Regan filled in for Groves at 3B perfectly. All good enough for a 10-0 win the Fish desparately needed.

The Marlins (3-5) next game is Wednesday night at 7pm back in Sanford to take on the Braves (4-4). Taking the hill will be “Crazy” Joe Del Valle (1-2, 2.25 ERA.) who’ll be trying to get his team one step closer to .500.

REICHLE/RASMUSSEN MATCHUP SET, RAINOUTS RESCHEDULED......

November 4, 2006
This Sunday's game between the Titans and the Marlins has been marked as the game of the week, thanks to a pitching matchup of ex-pros.

Marlin's starter Darrin "D-Man" Reichle 1-2 3.05, and Titan's hurler Dennis "The Other D-Man" Rasmussen 2-0 1.06, were teammates on the San Diego Padres roster in 1990. Just 16 years later, they are set to square of in beautiful Sanford Florida.

The Marlins (3-5) are trying to get back to .500, while the Titans (5-2-1) are trying to catch the undefeated Crew for a division crown.

Whether your a fan of the Fish or Titans, it promises to be a good one thanks to the talent and the weather, so come on out to Sanford for a post-Halloween treat!

Side note..
It is a little known fact that this very same Dennis Rasmussen had snubbed the Marlins early last year before the start of the 05 season, when P/Scout Robb Cymerman ran into him at a local Star Trek convention.

Cym recognized the veteran lefthander standing in line at the Scotty look-a-like autograph table. "This guy would be a great addition to our ballclub" thought Cymerman.
He approached the former All-Star who, dressed in a weathered and faded Star Trek shirt and sporting a brand new pair of Vulcan ears, proceeded to denounce baseball when asked to sign with the Orlando Marlins, saying he "is done with the game".

Well, here he is, just one year later, on the hill and anchoring a talented Titan pitching staff.
Are the Marlins miffed? "Sure we are!" exclaimed owner and GM Rich Musumeci. "He could have had it great with us! Little does he know, I know William Shatner personally, and could have arranged a formal dinner for just the two of them!"

Looks like Dennis lost out on that deal!

Look for the Marlins to take it out on the field!

GO FISH!!!

The rainouts against the Braves and the Astros have been rescheduled.
The Braves game will be made up Thursday 11/9 and the Astros is Tuesday 11/14. Both makeups are at 7pm at Jones H.S. field 1, and sandwich the matchup against the Reds on Sunday 11/12 in Sanford.
Thats a lot of baseball in a week to end the season, so lets get out there and enjoy it and play our best, because the spring season is a long 4 months away!

MUCH IMPROVED TITAN SQUAD, TOO MUCH TO HANDLE......

November 8, 2006
(Sorry for the delay guys, had some internet/computer issues)

The Orlando Marlins (3-6) were officially mathematically eliminated from playoff contention Sunday, when the Titans (6-2-1) walked away with a 6-1 win.

It was a great pitching duel for a while, as our hero Darrin Reichle pitched his butt off against a SOLID Titan offense, but the Titans answered with 3 tough hurlers themselves, as ex-major leaguer Dennis Rasmussen, Titan skipper Jim Matoska and closer Tony Lajoe kept the Marlins at bay to seal the victory.

It’s no secret that the Marlin’s offense has struggled all year long, but there can’t be many teams that could have scored that many runs off these guys.
1 run and 5 hits were all the Fish could muster through 9 innings, while D-Man held the Titans to 4 ER on 9 hits while striking out 9 though 8 innings of work, and Tony Burnham saw his first action of the fall on the hill in the 9th inning, as he tested his ailing Achilles.

Not much else to write about on this one, as the Marlins get set to wrap up their final 3 games, starting this Thursday (11/9) at 7pm at Jones H.S.
They will be hosted by the Orlando Braves (5-4), as they look to get closer to a respectable .500 finish. The first in line to make that happen will be #44, The Canadian Enforcer, Jimmy Groves 1-1 3.65.

All teams must vote on their 3 All Star representatives, and we will be doing just that this Thursday night at our game. Please think about it, and if you won’t be at our game email me your picks (ORLMarlins@cfl.rr.com)!

FISH CRUISE PAST SHORTHANDED BRAVES, 14-3...........

November 10, 2006
Marlins at Braves; the game that almost wasn’t.
With an unprepared field, no umpires scheduled and only 6 Braves’ players at the 7pm start time, it sure seemed like the 11 Marlin players that hustled out to Jones H.S. were looking at a wasted trip.
But after a few phone calls, a team turned grounds crew and an umpire willing and able to take the game last minute, the rescheduled rainout was underway.

Marlin’s starter Jimmy Groves making his 3rd start of the season handled the Braves lineup quite well, surrendering 1 unearned run, 2 hits and 1 BB while striking out 5 in 4 innings of work before giving way to reliever Shaun Regan.
Regan, who came in with a comfortable 13 run lead in the 5th, looked a bit rusty due to the lack of work the Marlins got him during the season, but he settled down after giving up 2 runs (1 earned) and picked up the first win of his career.

Offensively the Fish churned out 14 runs on 13 hits in 4 innings, surrendering their half of the 5th in order to get the game in and done.

The win knocked the Braves down to .500 at 5-5, and the Fish 1 step closer to .500 at 4-6 with 2 games remaining.
The next team standing in the way of total mediocrity is the Orlando Reds (7-4). The Reds, whom the Marlins have only beaten once, are on the plus side of a 3-1 series record and despite the roster changes from the spring, are still a force to be reckoned with.
The Fish will send Crazy Joe Del Valle 1-2, 2.25 ERA to the mound against his former team Sunday at 3:30pm in Sanford.
It should be another great day for baseball, so bring out the family and friends for this battle of division rivals.

POSSIBLE RETURN OF TEETER…. FOR LAST TIME……..

If cleared medically for his ailing foot, 1B Todd Teeter may be suiting up for the final time this Sunday as an Orlando Marlin. The 2 time All-Star and 3 time team MVP, looks like he will be calling it quits, at least in Florida anyway.

A move to cooler and less crowded North Carolina is in the works for the veteran first baseman, who could be leaving as early as the end of the month.
It is a blow of monstrous proportions to this hitting hungry ball club.
“When one of your best and most loyal players leaves your squad, it’s never a good thing” said a teary eyed Rich Musumeci.

The Marlins, who are hoping for another successful run at a postseason appearance in 07, were counting on Teeter to anchor their lineup. “I hate the decision, but I respect it. Big T has to do what’s best for his family” added Musumeci. “It won’t be just his bat we’ll be missing. It’s the man that swings it. Teeter has been a part of this organization for a long time. We’re losing a great player and a great man.”

Teeter signed with the team as a free agent in 1999, then known as the Cardinals of the 18+ NABF. Originally a catcher, he was moved to 1B after knee problems hampered his play, but the club soon realized he was just as valuable at 3rd and in the OF.
Teeter excelled after the position change, going on to represent his squad in the 2001 and 2005 All-star games, and taking the team MVP title 3 times.
In his 10 plus seasons, Todd always finished in the top 3 on the team in stats.

IT WASN’T JUST ABOUT NUMBERS

Todd’s presence in the dugout and on the field gave the team a certain “swagger”. Like a pro bowl linebacker on a stifling defense, Teeter made everyone around him want to pick it up a notch.
A quiet leader, Teeter would do whatever necessary to help his ball club win a game. Lay down a bunt in the cleanup spot, change positions to cover a weak spot, play through injuries so the team could field enough players, despite excruciating elbow pain that made him unable to swing a bat.
The examples go on and on, but if your close to the team, you already know how special this guy is and what he means to the organization.

"It is with great regret that I must leave this ball club. I have been with this team through many a rough time, and I was really enjoying our well deserved, and much anticipated success and wanted to be a part of bringing it a championship title. Hold down the fort boys. As Arnold says; 'I'll be baaack!"

The Marlins pray this move is only a temporary one and that someday he will return to Florida. But until then, they will have to make due and move on.

“On behalf of the entire organization, I want to wish Todd a safe move and all the best in his new home. Hopefully we’ll see you back here in the sunshine state wearing the Teal & Black in the not so distant future!”
Teeter will still be available for tournaments so this isn’t a permanent goodbye, just a “see ya soon”.

* The team is planning a goodbye bash, possibly to be held Saturday night 11/18. Please, if possible, keep some time free to send off Mr. T. Thanks!

REDS CAPITALIZE ON MARLIN MISCUES, WIN 6-2......

November 18, 2006
With two no call-no shows, no catchers available and a stressed out manager, The Marlins were in a pickle.
Starting pitcher Joe Del Valle was the only option at catcher, but that left a pitch by committee situation that the Fish didn’t have the resources for.
Enter, utility player Marlyn Kelch. A former hockey goalie, Marlyn thought, “how tough could it be to stop such a large object like a baseball compared to a puck?” So after borrowing an “athletic supporter”, Marlyn stepped up to the plate by squatting behind it.

“My arm just isn’t the same anymore, and that throw to 2nd is just too much, but I felt good back there, and had a lot of fun.”
Yes, there were some base stealers, but aside from the lack of a strong enough arm for the position and his lack of experience playing it, the ultimate utility player added yet another position to his repituois. “All I need to do now is pitch and play 1st” said Kelch. Kelch called a great game and had some great blocks keeping the ball in front of him on some low pitches.

Despite the loss, Kelch received the J&J Builders Player of the Game honors for stepping up for his team.

SP Joe Del Valle pitched a solid game and certainly deserved the win, but the Marlin offense couldn’t get anything going until the 8th inning when the game was called due to darkness.
Del Valle was 2 for 4 with 2 doubles against his former team and led the way offensively along with SS Danny Lopez who was 2 for 2 with a walk, RBI and a sac fly.

REICHLE OUTDUELS ASTROS STARTER IN 06 FINALE, 3-0..…..

In a meaningless game for both teams, the Orlando Marlins (5-7) managed to finish the season in a 4th place tie with division mate Orlando Astros (5-7), behind solid pitching great defense and just enough offense.

Marlin’s starter Darrin Reichle (2-3) held the Astros in check for 8 innings, despite not being his usual dominant self. 0 runs, 7 hits 2 BB’s and 8 K’s was the line for the Marlin ace, as Jimmy Groves came on in the 9th to earn the first save of his amateur career striking out 2 of the 3 batters he faced.

The defense was excellent, as SS Danny Lopez bounced back from a couple of miscues in the previous game to turn a nice 6-4-3 double play in the 2nd, and tie the record for put-outs in an inning in the 7th with 3 straight put outs at first.

Lopez also shares the J&J Builders Player of the Game honors for his 2 for 3 2 RBI day, with SP Darrin Reichle who kept a hard hitting Astros’s lineup at bay for his 2nd win of the season. Congrats guys!
Also deserving of congratulations is our fall 06 All-star representatives; Crazy Joe Del Valle, Bobby Esteves and Doug Elliott.
Please try and come out to support your teammates in the first ever fall all star game in Sanford at the Memorial Stadium (right next to Zinn Beck).

We also hope to see a great turnout Saturday night 7pm at the Ale House on Kirkman rd. as we bid farewell to long time teammate Todd Teeter.

Stats are updated. Check back after All-Star game for more info………

ESTEVES LEADS MARLIN REPS IN FALL ALL STAR CLASSIC........

November 20, 2006
Congratulations to our All Star representatives as they held their own in the CFMSBL battle of the best.
Team reps Crazy Joe Del Valle, Bobby Esteves and Doug Elliott looked psyched and ready to play Sunday morning at Sanford Memorial Stadium.

Del Valle was the starting pitcher for the good guys, and surrendered 1 unearned run through 2 innings of work. Doug Elliott, who started at third, made a nice diving play in the first inning, got to his feet and threw to 2nd to get the force. The throw was a little high, but it appeared the second baseman came down on the bag right before the runner did, but the call was safe. Pretty close play, but a nice job by Elliott regardless.

Both guys were great, but the Marlin with the best day was CF Bobby Esteves. Esteves roped a 2 out double down the right field line to drive in 2 runs in the 2nd inning, and threw a runner out at the plate later in the game, making the most of his long over due trip to an All-Star game.

Great job guys!
For the rest of our former all stars and all-stars-to-be, rest up, enjoy your Thanksgiving and SHORT off season, and be prepared for some rigorous training in the following weeks! Jimmy “the drill sergeant” Groves has full butt-kicking privileges when spring/winter training commences, so be ready!!!!

Post season wrap up coming soon.........
