MARLINS BID FAREWELL TO 2010, LOOK AHEAD TO 2011.....

December 31, 2010

After their worst season in franchise history, the Marlins look to be back on track and are poised to be back in a post season hunt this coming spring.

The Fish needed some major upgrading, and they did just that with the signing of several high quality Astros players (more on the signings in the near future).
"Stro's skipper Dan Jarvis brings his all stars and experience to the Marlins in hopes to help the team get to the next level.

"Dan the man and his clan will be welcome additions to our ballclub. Dan is a great guy and I'm looking forward to his help and working with him to improve the team." said Marlins manager, Rich Musumeci.

The Fish aren't stopping there. The pitching staff will be getting a boost of youth with some young guns expected to sign in the coming weeks.

It's a bright future for a team desperate to get the taste of a 2 win season out of their mouths.
Bring on 2011!!!

WELCOME ABOARD 'STROS!!!

MARLINS vs. PIRATES, SUNDAY AT 2:30pm.....

January 27, 2011

We'll be scrimmaging the Pirates at 2:30pm Sunday at Jones field 1.
Please let me know, if you haven't already, of your status.

Also, we need to get our dues in. The price stays the same as last year; $240. for 24 games, playoffs (if applicable) All-Star game, stats, etc etc.......

If you can't make the game, please pay via Pay-Pal, but add $7.50 for their processing fee.

We hope most of you can make it Sunday, because Josh has a fundraising plan that will pay for the new uniforms, and then some!
And it won't take much if every Marlin puts in a minimal effort and does their share.
If you won't be there, call me for details.

BUCS DOWN FISH, 4-3 IN SCRIMMAGE.....

January 31, 2011

The Marlins dropped a close one in their scrimmage against the Pirates, but walked away feeling pretty good.

The defense was pretty sound with some nice plays by 3B Josh Montero and SS Mickey Bono, along with new Marlin Barrett Gugliotta at 2B. Guges looks pretty comfortable at 2nd, and looks like he'll be sharing that position with P/C Jordan Pagano.

Without Pagano, Jason Torres OR Craig Howell on Sunday, the Fish tried out Utility player Tim Stahl at the catcher position. Stahl handled himself pretty well in his debut there, but was really just auditioning for the 5th string of that position.
The Marlins will continue to scour the waiver wire for a little more depth at that position.

On the pitching side, Warren Hanson started and threw 3 strong innings before making way for MSBL veteran and Hall of Famer Frank Shaw.
Shaw had a little rust to shake off, but settled down in his 2nd inning of work.

All-Star lefty Larry Hingle and Gugliotta closed out the final two scoreless frames and look to be in mid-season form.

With many big sticks missing, and not alot of offensive work yet this spring, the team struggled a bit, save the bases clearing double by Hingle to put the Marlins up 3-0 at the time.

The Fish are excited nonetheless, as they finish rounding out the roster for the upcoming season.

Next workout to be announced soon.....

The Fish will be hosting the re-built Diamondbacks, who handed the Marlins a 10-0 drubbing in the fall opener. Marlins will be trying to pay back the favor as they set the tone of a new season.

The Fish gave newly acquired Warren Hanson the nod as the opening day starter.
Hanson has seen steady work this spring training, and is in great shape and ready to go.

PLEEEEASE have your league dues in before next Friday so you will show up on the paid list and are eligible to play in opener.

Let's start off hot boys!!!

DIAMONDBACKS SPOIL MARLIN'S HOME OPENER, 6-2..............

February 13, 2011

Untimely hits in home opener. Fish got em on, but couldn't do much with em. A little disappointing, save a 3 for 4 day by Barrett Gugliotta, as he goes a homer shy of the cycle and new leadoff man Roger Martin debuts 2 for 4 with a run and 2 SB's.

New toy Jaime Douglas looks to be a force with a 9K outing in 3 innings.

Wrap up in a day or two.

Player of the game honors;
OF Roger Martin and LHP Jaime Douglas.
Nice job guys!

FISH BLOW LEAD IN GAME 1, SALVAGE GAME 2 OF TWIN BILL WITH BRAVES........

February 20, 2011

Costly error leads to 7 run 6th in game one, as Marlins lose 9-7. LHP Jaime Douglas gets POG for second straight game for 4 inning, 6K start.

Game 2 saw a barrage of Marlin hits and 16-7 win, as Braves pitching staff ran thin.

Co-POG's; Dan Jarvis 2 for 4, HR, 4 RBI's and Matt Butler, who is off to a GREAT start this season, with a 4 for 4 4 RBI day.

Congrats guys. Let's hope the bats have awakened and we're on our way. Let's focus on defense and right the ship!

ODD START TO SEASON CONTINUES, AS FISH CAN'T SWIM PAST REDS.............

February 27, 2011

The Orlando Marlins (1-3) drop another game they feel they should have won, despite missing some big sticks today.

Marlin's ace Jaime Douglas pitched well, striking out 10 in 4 innings of work, but the bloop base hits and a key error cost the Marlins the game.

Long time Marlin Mickey Bono earned POG with his 3 for 3, HR 2 RBI day. He also made a great play diving for a ball and slapping second base to end a Red rally.

The schedule is up. It is not very favorable, as the thought was Lake Mary H.S. and the noon time slot would be our home field. Apparently we were dooped, tricked or just mistaken. My apologies guys.
Please review for your scheduling purposes and try to make the best of it.

Next game is Sunday at 3pm at Lake Mary H.S. vs. Dodgers.
Hanson, 1-1 5.40 ERA gets the nod.

Hit the cages boys, we gotta save this season.

MARLINS BACK IN THE WIN COLUMN WITH 11-7 WIN OVER DODGERS.............

March 6, 2011

The O-Town Marlins (2-3) held off a late Dodger surge and pulled out the victory, 11-7.

Warren Hanson made his third start as a Fish and picked up his second win of the season.
Hanson struggled out of the gate, surrendering 3 quick runs, but settled down nicely and gave his squad a chance to get back in it. And they did just that, with a 7 run 2nd inning, plating 10 in the first 2 frames.

C Jason Torres led the charge with a 2 run blast to right, finishing the day with 4 RBI's, earning the sponsor-less POG award. Many Marlins had good days at the plate, but J.T. accounted for almost 40% of the runs.
Roger Martin continued his hot streak going 3-4 with a run scored and 2 RBI and 3B Josh Montero went 2-3 with an RBI as he continues to see the ball well.

In an effort to save some pitching for Tuesday night, the Marlins may have left Hanson in a bit too long, as he closed in on 100 pitches, he surrendered another quick 3 runs off a blast over the RF fence.

Dan "Flash" Jarvis came on in relief, and after a quick strikeout, he was gone in a flash after walking the bases loaded.
The Fish had to go to "Wise guy" Barrett Gugliotta to close it out, striking out Jared Bahnsen to end the inning and a Dodger rally.

Defensively the Marlins recorded one harmless error, as SS Mickey Bono and 3B Josh Montero locked down the left side of the IF.
Montero was stellar at third, and earned the rare Defensive Player of the game award.

Next up for our heroes are the dreaded Lugnuts. Former Nut Jeff Francher gets his first start of the season against his former mates, and a hodge podge of knuckleheads for relief.

We're missing some big sticks Tuesday, so bring your "A" game!!!

Good job Fish!!!

AWW NUTS!!!

March 8, 2011

Marlins not so sharp defensively, drop another to Lugnuts.

POG's Jay Laub (2-3, 2 RBI) and Roger Martin (3-3, RBI, SB).

Wrap-up Wednesday.......

MARLINS MERCY D'BACKS, MOVE INTO TIE FOR FIRST....

March 13, 2011

Marlins payback D'Backs, win 12-0 behind strong outing from Gugliotta, superb defense and timely hitting.

3B Josh Montero went 2 for 3 with 3 RBI and stays in game after rolling ankle, earning a split of the POG with slinger Gugliotta, who tied up the Diamondback lineup, surrendering just 3 hits and striking out 6 en route to a shortened complete game shutout.

Stats updated.

Next up, the undefeated Indians Tuesday.

See you Tuesday night!

FISH REEL IN METS, 14-1........

March 20, 2011

Former Astro's manager Dan Jarvis, leads Marlins over 18+ Mets in Musumeci's absence.

MANY offensive heros in this one, (Montero 3-4, 2 2B, 3B, RBI, Torres 3-3, 3 RBI) but POG goes to starter Warren Hanson, who gets CG win, surrendering one unearned run through 5.

Stats updated soon!

GO FISH!!!!

MARLINS, DOUGLAS HAND TRIBE FIRST LOSS, 11-6.......

March 16, 2011

The O-Town Marlins (4-4) take sole posession of first place in Haber division with 11-6 victory over Indians (7-1).

Starting pitcher Jaime Douglas fans 14 through 5 1/3rd, before making way for Jeff Francher who closed out the win.

Team effort on this one, as key hits and another errorless game turned out by defense seal the deal.

Marlins also welcome back 3B/1B Will Baker!

Wrap up in coming days.

GO FISH!!!

MARLINS MAKE IT 4 STRAIGHT WITH 12-2 MERCY WIN OVER ANGELS........

March 25, 2011

(Sorry for the Stro's file photo. We have to get some new pics taken!!)

The Orlando Marlins (6-4) finally seem to be getting on track.
With their win over the Angels (1-7-1) tonight, they’ve made it 4 straight victories, and 5 of their last 6, with 3 of the 4 coming via the mercy rule.

The Marlins felt confidant with southpaw Jaime Douglas getting the nod on the bump, with a ready to go Mike Lyons and a healthy and rested Larry Hingle out of the pen. Offensively however, they were without some heavy artillery, which could have made it a close game. But the Fish showed they can put some runs on the board without everyone available.

With two out in the bottom of the first, Hingle and SS Mickey Bono singled, and C Jay Laub drew a walk.
Mike Lyons, batting in Barrett Gugliotta’s usual 6th slot, took a first pitch fastball down the left field line for a bases clearing double, and the Fish were ahead 3-0 just like that.

In the bottom half of the 2nd, Douglas helped his own cause with a 1 out double to left center, followed by a Pagano single and ANOTHER Montero walk, who ended up with three on the night bringing his total to 14 on the season. Hingle blasted a sac fly to center, scoring Douglas, and Bono followed with a single driving in Pagano and Montero who scored on the error that followed.

The fourth inning saw 3 more runs cross the plate, capped off by a bases loaded 2 run single by Matt Butler.
The Fish plated 3 more in the 5th, the 2 final runs coming from Laub who crushed one to left, making it technically a “walk-off” double.

Defensively the Fish matched the Angels in errors, recording 3, 2 of which led to the only Angel runs.

Douglas was masterful again, earning his 2nd win of the season in the shortened complete game.

Another big offensive output saw a bunch of great producers, but The Hingle-Erickson POG has got to go to Laub for his 2-2, 2B, 3 RBI, 2 runs, 2 BB night, and another solid job behind the dish!

The road ahead gets a bit bumpy the next few games and the team’s new found confidence will be tested, as they potentially battle 3 of the top pitchers in the league, starting with the Reds this Sunday, who carry the Polish Hammer, Ben Kozlowski on their roster.
The following Sunday will see our heroes locked in a doubleheader from hell against Brad Weis and the Lugnuts in game 1 and Chris Brock and the Indians in game 2.

The Teal and Black hope to hold some ground and get through the next 3 games with a hopeful 2-1 record.

On the hill for the Fish Sunday will be the 2010 Spring MVP Jeff Francher, who seems to have shaken some of the off-season rust and is salivating for his first win of the 2011 campaign.

GO FISH!!!!

WELCOME BACK LAWRENCE!!!

BY THE NUMBERS………………..

49-9……. The Marlins runs vs. last 4 opponents.

7…….... Number of Marlins with batting avg. over .400 (with at least 9 AB’s)

3..... Number of RBI's needed for Mickey Bono and Josh Montero to surpass the Marlin's all-time RBI leader, Darrin Reichle.

3……. Average number of Marlin fans at attendance each game……WTF!!???

FISH ON A ROLL!!!..........

March 30, 2011

(I know, I've used that one before, but I couldn't help myself.)

The Orlando Marlins (7-4) took on the Reds (5-3-1) Sunday, trying to avenge their loss in their previous meeting earlier this season.

Marlin’s starter Jeff Francher took the hill looking for his first win this season and it looked like he has shaken off any rust from the off-season.
Franchie was sharp through 4 1/3rd innings before making way for Mad Dog Mike Lyons, who made his first and long awaited appearance for the Fish.

Lyons inherited 2 runners with one out, and fell behind quickly 3-0 until he found his zone and struck out the only two batters he faced in the 5th.
Against the better judgment of his pitching coach, Francesco Calibrisi, Lyons marched out to the mound in the 6th, and the lack of action due to his shoulder stiffness started to take its toll.
Lyons walked the first two batters, before giving up a single but was able to get 2 ground balls for outs and a final strikeout to end the inning. The Reds put up 2 runs that inning, but the Fish got them back in the top of the 7th and Barrett Gugliotta took care of business in the final frame to finish off the Marlins 5th straight victory.

In his thick Sicilian accent, Calibrisi had this to say; “Ehh, Mikey looka very very good todaya. He no listen to me when I tella him donta go backa out there. He give me a scary looka, and I say nothinga else..”
Assistant manager Dan Jarvis agreed. “We are very pleased with Mad Dog’s progress. Once he gets that cortisone injection, he’ll be lights out!”

The Marlins could not wait to see Lyons in action on the hill, but that doesn’t mean he hasn’t produced for the team.

What the Fish found out recently, was he can be pretty valuable with the stick too, as evident in his .500 avg. and 5 RBI. So much so, he’s earned a spot in one of the most talented lineups in the league. Lyons may not be the fastest guy on the team, but his aggressive base running has produced quite a few runs. He’s scored 5 of his own, but countless more as a courtesy runner.

Offensively, the Marlins scored double digit runs for the 5th straight game, bringing their total to 60 vs. 14 of their opponents.

Leading the charge was DH/1B Matt Butler, who ironically wasn’t supposed to be at the game. With family in town, he turned to his NEW family and proceeded to drive in 5 RBI’s on a single, double and a fielder’s choice. Butler now leads the team in RBI’s with 14 and has been virtually unstoppable with RISP.
Butler CLEARLY earned the Hingle Erickson POG, but one cannot ignore the multi-hit games by Jason Torres and Jay Laub as they continue to show why they are considered some of the elite hitters in the league.
Also considered in that category has to be long time Marlin Mickey Bono. Bono homered for the second time this season, bringing his MSBL total to a team record 5, surpassing Josh Montero.
Bono also added a single and a double to his day, finishing 3-3 with an RBI and a triple short of the cycle.

Speaking of Montero; the Marlin RBI record is within 2 now, as Both Montero and Bono remain tied with 83 after both added one this past Sunday. It should be a great race to watch, but Montero has been slowed by flu-like symptoms and a strained ligament in his back. He’ll be re-evaluated next week, but is expected to miss at least the next 4 games.

The defense, which will prove to be what makes or breaks this team this season, had a couple of errors that led to runs. There were some nice plays made as well, but The Staples Defensive player of the game has got to be CF Corey Anderson for his run and dive for a ball, he had no business being near.
Anderson has made some great plays in his brief history with the Fish, so it should really be of no surprise when it happens again!

The Marlins are hot at the right time, but they will be tested to the max as they take on a twin bill of epic proportions. While this Sunday is a good mid season test for the good guys, it is the toughest doubleheader the Marlins have ever seen in their 6 year existence.
With a combined record of 18-3, the Lugnuts and Indians come into the Marlin’s home, the friendly confines of Lake Mary High School, with guns a blazing.

It will be a tough one, but the Fish will have a well rested pitching staff of, Douglas, Hingle, Lyons, Hanson, Francher and company waiting for them at the gate.

Come on down and get that Marlin attendance up!!!

GO FISH!!!

MARLINS SPLIT TWIN BILL FROM HELL..........

April 5, 2011

The Marlins were glad to get away with a split this Sunday, as they played two top tier teams.

First Brad Weis and the Lugnuts (8-3) came in for a classic pitcher's dual, with MSBL rookie phenom Jaime Douglas fairing a bit better for the Fish, getting the 3-0 victory.

Douglas earns the Hingle/Erickson POG for his dismantling of the Lugnut lineup. 8 Innings, 3 hits and 13K strikeouts was good enough for the win.

The Marlins other resident lefty stud, Larry Hingle closed out the final frame for the save.

Game 2 saw Chris Brock and the Indians (11-1) come in to even the season series and end a 6 game Marlin winning streak, and thanks to 5 Marlin errors they were able to do just that.

The Marlin's offense was able to get some hits together and knock a few in off the flame thrower, but after a long day in the hot sun, the defense wasn't able to hold up its end.

POG for this one is C Jason Torres, who caught 15 innings on the day and played 3B after, while knocking in 2 on a hit and a sac fly.

The Marlins are feeling positive despite the loss and look to start another winning streak Sunday at noon vs. a tough 18+ Phillies squad, who can pound the ball.

The Fish will attempt to go back to their plan of pitch by committee for the remainder of the season to keep arms healthy and fresh, with Douglas looking as the probable starter for Sunday.

NICE WORK GUYS, GO FISH!!!!

MARLINS ADD ANOTHER BIG NAME FOR STRETCH RUN.........

April 8, 2011

In an effort to sure up all areas of the game, the Orlando Marlins brought back C/P/IF Kevin Lidle.
Lidle, a former pro and perennial MSBL all star, was re-signed today and should be ready to join the team as soon as Sunday vs. the 18+ Phillies.
Lidle will address the depth behind the dish the Marlins have lacked since Craig Howell’s defection, and help out in the IF and pitching duties as well, not to mention another lethal bat in the Marlin’s powerful lineup.

The Marlins have made it through the first half of the season with just 2 catchers, former pros Jason Torres and Jay Laub, who both have done an OUTSTANDING job.
Thankfully their schedules were as such where they never missed the same game, but the Fish didn't want to take any chances moving forward.

The former Crew utility player last played for the Fish in the fall of 09, when he came on board to ease the burden of a pitching staff that saw a rough schedule right before the post-season.
Lidle tossed 5 scoreless innings while striking out 9, surrendering 3 hits and a BB in the season finale against, none other than our current teammates, the former Astros.

Offensively in his 2 games with the team, he posted an .800 avg. with a HR and 3 RBI.

Welcome back Sir Kevin!!!

Marlin’s front office has hinted that this should be the last of any free agent acquisitions barring an injury, but will still leave the door open for P Kyle Bono. Bono, brother of long time Marlin IF Mickey Bono, expressed interest in closing out the season with the Fish but is currently nursing a fractured collar bone in his non-throwing shoulder.

GO FISH!!!!!

YOUNG PHILLIES NO MATCH FOR SENIOR MARLINS...............

April 10, 2011

When a team starts to get in a groove and builds it’s confidence, it is hard to slow them down. Such was the case today, as the red hot Marlins (9-5) faced off with one of the top NABF 18+ squads, the Phillies (4-3).

The Marlins knew off the bat they’d be without some of their top hitters, and with the ailing Josh Montero having to be inserted into the lineup for Kevin Lidle who was a game time scratch due to a stiff neck, they didn’t feel they’d have such a high scoring offense.

But, when a team is firing on all cylinders and can win games despite missing some key players, it shows they are a solid club. It’s what separates the GOOD teams from the GREAT teams.

Of course it doesn’t hurt to have a pitcher like Jaime Douglas on the hill either.

The Marlin’s starter picked up his fourth win of the season in a 10-0, 7 inning mercy shortened game.

The Fish jumped out early, plating 7 runs in the first, practically a knockout blow in the first round.
Douglas, with a more than comfortable lead, proceeded to dismantle a strong Phillies lineup, which has been an averaging 10-12 runs per game, striking out the first 7 batters he faced, en-route to a 13 strikeout 6 inning performance. The Phils could manage only 3 hits and a HBP, before veteran Larry Hingle came in to put the final nails in the coffin, striking out 2 in the 7th.

“That has become a lethal combination (Douglas/Hingle)” said Marlin’s Assistant coach, Dan Jarvis. “When you’re the opposing team, and you see the guy that has stifled your offense for the last 5-6-7 innings finally come out of the game, you think, whew, now maybe we can get something going……..Umm, no.”

Hingle has been relishing the closer role, making it an uphill battle for the opposition to mount any sort of comeback.

“It’s been nice to have that luxury.” said pitching coach, Francesco Calibrisi.

Offensively, the Fish rolled off 10 runs off 10 hits and were in complete control early.
The Marlins employ some big sticks at the top of the order this season, but this day saw the bottom of the lineup come through with a combined 6 for 9 and 5 RBI’s.

Leading the charge was Chip Dressel, who seems to be getting his timing back after being away from the game for a number of years, driving in 2, going 2 for 4.

Dressel showed the fish he can contribute defensively as well.
“Dressel was signed as a DH to boost the offense earlier this season, and has given us a guy who can not only play a great first base, but today he was outstanding at second.” said manager Rich Musumeci.

“We were in a pinch when Lidle was unable to go and Montero’s shoulder was hurting. So we moved Laub back to 3B and inserted Chip at second. He looked like a natural there, despite 3B being his natural position before his career ending shoulder injury.”

Also having a good day at the plate and the field, was Stephen Tearpock. Tearpock has been struggling a bit this season, but seems to be coming out of it, as he ripped a 2 out double to right center in the first, laid down a beauty bunt in the 4th and added a hit and an RBI walk before the day was done.
T-Pock also killed a potential rally and preserved the shutout in the 4th with a diving catch, (ala Corey Anderson) in left to end the inning.

T-Pock’s great day earned him a split of the Hingle/Erickson POG with multi-time recipient P Jaime Douglas.

Up next for the Guppies, the O-Town Yankees. on Thursday night7 pm, @ Jones H.S.
Barrett Gugliotta (1-0, 2.14 ERA) gets the nod for his second start of the season.

On a side note, Mickey Bono surpassed Darrin Reichle as the Marlin’s all-time RBI leader last weekend with his 2 RBI single in the Indians game.
Bono has become an RBI machine, as he also leads the team with 16.
Congratulations DJ Jazzy Mick!!!!!

MARLINS GET SET TO BATTLE BREWERS AND BUCS IN 3 DAY SPAN.......

April 21, 2011

After a dismal 1-3 start, the Marlins have rolled off 10 wins in their last 12 games to take control of the Haber division and seem to control their own destiny for a playoff spot.

In one of the biggest games of the season, tonight's matchup with the defending champion Brewers, aka. team Dos Equis (11-3), ;-) should be a good one, as both are clearly 2 of the top 5 teams.

The Brewers, like the Indians, are ALWAYS up for a battle with the Fish, and they will take advantage of any mistake you make,
While they've had their struggles of late, the Brewers are never to be taken lightly as they still have a potent roster.

In a pre-Easter treat, the Marlins will do battle with the surging Pirates (9-4), who are fighting for a playoff spot of their own.

It will be a pitch-by-committee weekend, as the Fish try to get work for everyone.

See ya tonight!!!
GO FISH!!!!

POG's for the Yankee's game; Barrett Gugliotta for holding the Yanks to 1 earned run on 4 hits while striking out 10 in 5 innings.

In the Dodgers matchup, POG goes to Jeff Francher for outdueling Dodgers ace Jared Bahnsen, keeping the Marlins in the game until the offense woke up. And helping to wake that offense up was Barrett Gugliotta, who drove in 2 on a single to left in the 7th, putting the Marlins up to stay. Both get POG for that one!

Also having great days offensively was Jason Torres, who homered in the 4th to tie the game and Jay Laub who slammed a 2 run shot to center in the 9th to put the game out of reach.

MARLINS SWEEP SEASON SERIES WITH PHILLIES......

So it seems the pitch-by-committee approach works, as the Marlin's brutal staff combined for a 2 hit shut out against the 18+ Phillies.

Marlin's starter Jeff Francher marched out for the first two innings, getting out of a bases loaded no out jam in the first, striking out the 4 and 5 hitters and getting a fly out to right to end the only threat the Phils would have all day.

Closer Mike Lyons, still working out the bugs in his arm, threw the next 3 and surrendered just one walk vs. 7 K's. "Lyons was just nasty" said bench coach and assistant manager Dan Jarvis.

Jaime Douglas, one of the top 2 CFMSBL strikeout leaders, pitched the 6th and 7th striking out 2, while bringing his 100 strike out goal to within 9.

The Fish finished up with Kevin Lidle who struck out the side in the 8th, and Lawrence Bartholomew Hingle in the 9th to close out a nice win for the team.

Offensively, the Marlins still looked a little off despite plating 8 runs, as some big bats seem to be in a funk.
Leaders on the day were Barrett Gugliotta (1-2, 2 RBI), Jason Torres (2-4, RBI), Mickey Bono (2-3), and Jaime Douglas (2-3, 2B).

On the defensive side, the Fish kicked it around a bit for 4 errors, but the way the pitching was mowing down the opposition, it didn’t seem to matter much.

The Hingle/Erickson construction POG goes to P Mike Lyons for showing why he’s earned the nick name, Mr. Nasty, striking out 7 in 3 innings of work, and SS Mickey Bono who continues to hit the ball with authority and for a couple of great defensive plays.

Have a great week guys, we’ll see you SATURDAY at 3pm in Lake Mary!

MARLINS WIN RECORD 14th IN 17-1 BLOWOUT OF ANGELS.........

May 15, 2011

The playoff bound O-Town Marlins won their record 14th game Thursday night, behind some sick pitching by closer Mike Lyons who started, Larry Hingle and Warren Hanson.

Lyons was hot out of the gate, striking out the first 3 batters he faced, and ended up with 5 in his 3 innings of work, surrendering just a hit and a walk.

In an effort to get the sparingly used Hingle some prep work for post season, the Marlins gave him 4 innings in relief. He continued where Lyons left off, striking out 5 while giving up just one hit.

Hingle has looked incredibly sharp this season and seems to be getting better as season s pass, with an over powering fastball and a biting curve that buckles the knees. Hingle, in a phone interview with Sports Illustrated, claims his success has nothing to do with his steroid “abuse”.

Speaking of steroids, league investigators have been trolling around SS Mickey Bono’s locker, in hopes of finding an answer to his personal best and record setting season.

Bono has been on a tear this year, doubling his home run total to 6, and a career best and Marlin record 23 RBI’s with 3 games remaining.
“I don’t know man, ya know? I’m just seein the ball better dude. Maybe it’s the frequent trips to Arbys, maybe it’s my excellent Tee Ball coaching abilities, I don’t know man.”

It’s no secret that Bono is in a contract year and is looking to score big when negotiations resume. The Marlins have no intention of losing him to free agency, so he’s probably looking at a big pay day.

Well deserved too, as he picks up another Hingle/Erickson POG for his 3rd homer and 23rd RBI of the season in Thursday’s game.

Sharing that POG is the POG’s namesake, Larry Hingle. Bono and Hingle combined for 7 of the runs in the 17-1 thrashing of the Angels. Combined, they were 6-9, 2B, HR 7 RBI’s.

But there will be one more they will share the honor with because his gutsy performance cannot go without mention or appreciation.
With both catchers, (Torres and Laub) not in action, Dan Jarvis stepped up and volunteered to catch 2 of the best pitchers in the game and did an outstanding job! On top of that, he managed to knock in a run while going 2 for 4.
With the Marlins up 2-0 in the 5th and a runner at 3rd with one out, Jarvis laid down a perfect bunt to squeeze home Chip Dressel, sparking a 6 run rally to put the game virtually out of reach.

GREAT job guys! Let’s keep it rolling!!

The Fish (14-6) take on the Bucs (11-7) Sunday at high noon. Probable starter for the Marlins will be Barrett Gugliotta 2-0 2.08 ERA, followed by the usual arsenal in relief.

MARLINS COMPLETE 4 GAME SWEEP OF NABF WITH 14-0 SHUTOUT OF 18+ BRAVES.....

May 23, 2011

In what turned out to be the final game of the regular season, the Marlins (15-6) run ruled the NABF 18+ Braves, 14-0.
It was an exclamation point of sorts on a very successful season, as the Fish finished with their best record in franchise history.

Aside from 8 of the team's 15 victories coming by way of mercy rule, the Fish outscored the young guns of the NABF by a whopping 46-1 in 4 games.

The merge with the Orlando Astros can go down as one of the best moves in recent league history. Combining the best of both squads had to equal a solid team, not to mention some free agent signings that rounded out the roster.
Though the team took a few bumps on the head early on, starting off 1-3 and 2-4, they settled in and rolled off 13 wins in their final 15 games to clinch the Haber division crown and a 3rd seed in the 2011 spring playoff tourney.

In the final game, 2010 spring MVP Jeff Francher took to the hill for the start and cruised through his 3 innings of work, surrendering just one walk while striking out 4, before giving way to Barrett Gugliotta who retired every batter he faced in the final 2 frames, sending 5 of them down on K's.

Both pitchers earn the Hingle/Erickson Construction POG for their combined no hit shutout.

Leading the way offensively was Gugliotta, who drove in 3 on a bases clearing double in the 4th, Dan Jarvis who drove in 3 of his own on a couple of knocks, and Chip Dressel 1-2, sac fly 2 RBI.
It wasn't all Marlin offense that won this one, as the Braves defense gave up 12 errors in 5 innings.

With the field unavailable Tuesday night for the makeup game against the Pirates (11-8), both teams will have to wait for their first meeting of the season until the first round of the playoffs, as the Bucs grabbed the 6th and final spot for post season action.

Round one is set for 12 noon at Lake Mary H.S. on June 5th.

Getting the game one nod will be 2011 MVP candidate and CFMSBL rookie Jaimie Douglas, who finished 5-1, 1.59 ERA in 6 starts for the Marlins.

MARLINS GET PAST PIRATES 6-2, EARN DATE WITH 2ND SEED INDIANS...........

June 5, 2011

The O-Town Marlins have made it to the spring semi-finals for the second straight season, and the third time since their inception in 2005, and are hoping to finally get to the championship.
Unfortunately for them, the 19-4 Indians stand in their way, and are hungry themselves.

The Fish were able to get by the 6th seed Pirates with a solid effort on the mound from rookie phenom Jaime Douglas, and key hits by 2B Chip Dressel, and LF Larry Hingle.

Douglas went 8 strong innings on Sunday, despite not being at his sharpest due to his 7 day work weeks and not throwing for a month, and surrendered just 1 ER while striking out 8.

Dressel and Hingle put on a clinic, belting 5 hits with 3 RBI's combined.
C Jason Torres went 2 for 4 with an RBI, while Gugliotta came a single and a homer short of the cycle.

Hingle/Erickson construction POG's to Hingle, Dressel and Douglas!

The Pirates were focused and played well and were in it the whole game. The only original Pirate remaining from the 2005 inaugural roster, Jeff Shebovsky (shown above) was seen weeping moments after the final out was recorded.
"We came so close" said Shebovsky. "I'm so proud of these guys. We played our hearts out."

The Marlins now move on to face the Indians in a best of 3 series, beginning Thursday night at 7pm in Clermont.
Game 2 will find the Marlins back in Lake Mary at noon, with a 3pm rubber match if necessary.

MARLINS MANHANDLED BY WELL RESTED BROCK, DROP GAME 1, 7-2...........

June 10, 2011

A month rest with no action proved to be just what the doctor ordered for former Titan ace, Chris Brock.

After a quick 2 runs in the first, featuring a leadoff triple by 3B Josh Montero and a Mickey Bono RBI single, the Marlin's offense was completely dismantled.

The Marlins added just 3 more hits the rest of the game, two of them coming off the hot bat of Barrett Gugliotta and the 3rd off the seldom used Jeff Francher.

Brock struck out 18 batters en route to a key 7-2 win for the Indians, as they take a 1-0 lead in the series and can wrap up a trip to the championship with a game 2 win Sunday at noon.

The limited action Marlin's starter Larry Hingle saw this season took its toll, as he did not have the stamina to last past the 4th inning. Hingle has also been battling a strained calf this week and that didn't help matters.
The 40 year old lefty looked solid the first 3 innings, striking out 4 while scattering 3 hits, but he hit a wall in the 4th.

With the game close, the Marlins went with their closer, Mike Lyons, and although he had some shoulder stiffness and a little pain, he was able to feed off his adrenaline and limit the Tribe to an unearned run, a hit and a walk while fanning 6 in his 3 innings.

With the two ejections of Montero and Hingle in the ninth inning, the Marlins may be without 2 key batters in the lineup for game 2, due to a seldom and randomly enforced "ejection" rule, where the ejected player must serve a one game suspension.
The Marlins will sweat through the appeal process late into Saturday night, but are not optimistic.

***NOTE***The Marlins received word late Saturday night, that the ruling was overturned and both players may participate in game 2, Sunday at noon.
On behalf of the team, I want to personally thank the 6 managers that voted in our favor to overturn the suspension.
Hopefully we can get back to the table and re-work this rule so it is uniformely enforced, but not so severe for trivial ejections.

Jaime Douglas will be on the hill, should he make it back from Jacksonville in time.

Cross your fingers Fishies!!

Let's get out there and pull off an upset and get Josh and Larry a chance at redemption for game 3!.......... We ain't dead yet!

MARLINS FALL SHORT OF CHAMPIONSHIP SERIES, BUT REMAIN CONFIDENT ON FUTURE.......

June 13, 2011

Season wrap-up this weekend along with updated career stats......

MARLINS FORCED TO TWEAK FALL ROSTER......

August 12, 2011

And just like that, its baseball season!!
The 2011 fall season is rapidly approaching, and the Marlins are finalizing their roster, after getting word of many players deciding to take the fall season off.

The 2011 spring Haber division champs will be without the services of OF Stephen Tearpock, IF Josh Montero, IF Chip Dressel and their “Big 3”, pitchers Jaime Douglas, Larry Hingle and Mike Lyons.

While the Marlins still employ plenty of arms for the fall season, they felt the need to beef up the offense a little.
Their first move; Long time Brave and MSBL veteran, Marc Valentino. Valentino was a constant at the cleanup spot for the Braves and has put together a hell of an MSBL career, with multiple seasons at or around the .500 mark.

After trading in the Fetuccini Alfredo , meatball parmagiana heros and garlic bread for dumbbells and steroids………errrr, …….Whey protein, Valentino is now a chiseled rock, looking to take his game to yet another level.

The big dog will have many RBI opportunities with the Fish and is happy to be wearing black.
“I’m F%#@ing stoked, to be with the Marlins! I am looking forward to driving in some runs for these mother F$@#ers!!.”
Welcome aboard Goombah!!

Aside from the Valentino deal immediately following the Marlins final spring game, the Fish were idle for most of the offseason, save the Kevin Lidle and Will Baker deals to keep them in house………….until this afternoon.

The Fish announced today they have brought in former Crew and Baron players, C Lorne Wheatcraft, P Kris Parrish, OF Sean Williams and brought back IF Wash Respess.

All additions will contribute immediately, to give the Marlins a chance to compete.

While the roster seems large, it does include a few part time players and coaching staff.

Your 2011 fall Marlins will be returning to action next Sunday morning (8/21) at 10am, when they take on the powerhouse Lugnuts at Jones H.S. in the first scrimmage action of the season.

2011 award winners to come, as well as spring wrap-up and updated career stats.

On a personal note, it has been a tumultuous year for me and I apologize for slacking on our website and team as a whole. I didn’t, nor couldn’t put 100% into our ballclub.

I needed the break, but I am now refocused and ready to roll with my homeys!!

See you all next week!!

MARLINS LOOK TO GAIN SOME GROUND AFTER IDLE 10 DAYS.......

October 7, 2011
The Orlando Marlins (2-1-1) have dipped a bit in the standings after an ugly loss to the Lugnuts (surprise) and an idle week and a half.
They are back in action Sunday evening, when they take on the Dodgers (1-2) at South Orange.

Returning Marlins Josh Montero and Barrett Gugliotta have helped the Fish in the lineup and on the hill.

Gugliotta picked up the win against the NABF Sharks when he struck out the side after inheriting a no out bases loaded situation in the final inning and then went on to score the game winner on a Jason Torres double after a lead off double of his own.

Montero gives the Fish more depth in the IF and offensively, which goes without saying.

2011 Fall POG's;

vs. Indians, Torres- 3-3, 2 HR's, 3 RBI's
vs. Yankees, Torres- 4-4, 2B, 3B, RBI, Parrish- 3-4, 2 RBI
vs. Sharks, Gugliotta- 1-3, GW run, 1 IP, 3K's (win)

October 8, 2011

Rain washes out Sunday's game vs. Dodgers. See you Thursday @ 7pm.

MARLINS SKELETON CREW NO MATCH FOR PIRATES............

October 14, 2011

With several key players missing, the Fish took on the Bucs last night, only to see the game end in 5 innings.

Starter Warren Hanson pushed through 4 1/3rd, with virtually no run support.

Not too much to crow about in this one, aside from Lorne Wheatcraft's 3 for 3 night.
Wheatcraft is the Arby's player of the game. Arby's, not fast food. Good food fast!

No game Sunday. See you in a week.

Good luck to our teammates, Lorne, Wash, Kevin, Sean and Kris, as they head west to represent the CFMSBL!!

MARLINS SNAP LOSING STREAK.................WITH A TIE.......

FISH TACKLE SNAKES IN BACK TO BACK WEEKS, PULL OUT A WIN IN RECENT..

November 6, 2011

Lefty Kris Parrish and Righty Warren Hanson combine for 2 hitter. Stats and wrap up later........

MARLINS 10TH GAME ENDS IN RECORD 3rd TIE.............

November 13, 2011

Marlins skate to 1-1 tie in hitter-friendly, Clermont P.A.L.

Warren Hanson pitches another stellar game in his bid for fall MVP.
But Angels lefty Bobby Crain was equally impressive, keeping the Fish sticks quiet.

Marlins suffer two more injuries. Respess (knee) and Williams (hamstring) could not finish game. With only two games remaining, it is unclear whether they will return this season.

Stats tomorrow..........
