Author TOPIC: Two Peewee Teams ???
A Concerned Parent

There is talk that there may be 2 peewee teams and as a parent I am concerned for the safety of the children. Even though we have a lot of peewees, they do not seem very big. Players have to realize that there is another 30 pound difference from mosquito. I f the peewees had 20 lineman - 10 for each team - it would be OK but I don't think they do.
And what about coaches. There still looking for coaches at the Bantam level - where are they going to get qualified coaches for another team??

Dear Concerned,

First, remember that at the pee-wee level there is a 150 lbs weight limit. We certainly would not want all of the players to be at or near that limit because then, if any one of them would go over it, they would not be able to play. Every year in the past the pee-wee team has had a good mix of players of all weights, heights, strength and speed. They all play on a position that is best suited for their qualifications. Other teams are no different (except perhaps the Ste-Therese team that the pee-wees played in the regional final, which was an elite team selected from about 100 candidates and had 20 (yes, 20) coaches on the team).
Second, regarding the availability of coaches, that is always a big concern. However, I think that the association is managing that situation very well. At the last pee-wee practice I counted 9 coaches. At the bantam practice I counted 7 coaches (it seems that people responded well to our calls for help at the coaching level). This is not to say that we can all relax now but it shows that there is a way to deal with the situation.
However, this is just my impression. Don't take my word for it. Talk to Anson, Richard or any one of the coaches. I am sure that they will prefer to clarify any concern that you have instead of letting you worry.
What would you do, what would you prefer, considering that there are over 70 players signed up?

Expansion is always a hot debate no matter where you go. Look up North in Laurentian. They Expanded thier midget and now thier PEEWEE may expand again.
Finding Coachs for a team is always difficult.

You bring up some very good concerns about expansion and a second peewee team. Coachs, players safety. Trust in your association and good things will come. As for coachs well.... you will be amazed at who is qualified in your area once they realize things are growing for you. Many parents also go out and take the courses to help out.

You shuold sit down and talk with the association you may hear things that will help, and you may decide you want to throw your hat in and help out with coaching. You never know good things could happen
