Each scout needs a Tiger Cub Handbook and a uniform. The uniform consists of an orange cap, blue short-sleeve shirt (always buy larger because your scout will be wearing it for 5 years), orange neckerchief, tiger slide (this holds the neckerchief in place and is the most commonly lost/misplaced part of the uniform. HINT: Put a knot under the slide so it can’t fall off) and a belt with a tiger buckle. Uniform pants are available but we generally don’t wear them to save on costs—ordinary pants or even jeans work fine as long as they have loops to thread the belt through. Your Tiger will also need an assortment of patches—Patriot’s Path Council patch, Den Number, Pack numbers (56) and the fleur de lis badge to begin with. You can either sew the badges on or the Scout Shop sells the glue sheets that hold up pretty well. Your handbook will also show you where the patches go on the shirt.
The Den/Assistant Leaders will also need to purchase a short sleeve tan shirt. You should wear this shirt to all Den and Pack Meetings as well as on all outings. You should have the following patches: Den Number, Pack Number (56), fleur de lis, Patriot’s Path Council, and a patch that says either Den Leader or Assistant Den Leader. The Scout Shop also sells a number of books that will guide the Leader through den meetings. Most of this information can be found online if you do not want to purchase the books.
The official Scout shops are your best bet if you need help with what patches you need and where to put them. Employees at other stores may not be so knowledgeable about specifics, but may be more convenient if you know exactly what you want.
A small amount of donated, gently used uniform items are also available at the Kick-off Meeting in September, so you may want to check that out before you buy new—it is not necessary to have everything by the first pack meeting! There will also be a Traveling Scout Shop at the Kick-off where you can purchase uniforms and accessories. Cash, Checks and MC, Visa or Discover will be accepted.
Class B Tee Shirts
A Class B tee shirt is also included in your registration for the Tiger year. You can pick one up at the Kick-off meeting in September. After that, once your scout outgrows the shirt, you will be responsible for purchasing a new one at a cost of around $12.00. This shirt will be worn on many outings so that the official uniform does not get ruined. Leaders and Assistant Leaders will need one as well. Cub Scouts will be purchasing them for you. Leaders can also pick up their Class B shirts at the Kick-off as well. See below for the Class B shirt sizes:
