Despite 2 wins and a tie in their last 3 games, other results in the league were not favorable to the Cavs and they missed out on the 6th and final playoff spot in Division 2.
The Cavs finished in 8th place with 31 points. To illustrate how close the division was, 2nd place and promotion to Division 1 was 39 points. Although disappointing to not make the playoffs, a losing 5 out of 7 matches in late July and August lead to the final position the Cavs ended in.
The Cavs will now prepare for the Indoor season at the U of M, where they'll compete in Division 2 again.
Congratulations to the team top goal scorer, Jeff Penner who finished the season with 8 goals.
He is followed by Duane Chaves who scored 6 and Clayton Rayban that finished with 5.
The site will be updated when the roster is finalized and the schedule for indoor is complete.
Despite going into the 2nd half down 2-1, Kildonan kept their cool and dominated the 2nd half, winning the game in the 87th minute off a free kick outside the box, scored by Duane Chaves.
Throughout the game Phil made fantastic saves to keep the game level but Players Club struck first.
Kildonan bounced back off a corner kick that was only half cleared by the Players Club defence. Clayton settled the bouncing ball and hit it hard to the top corner leaving the P.C. keeper no chance.
Kildonan couldn't hold back the pressure late in the 2nd half when the P.C. top scorer evaded 3 tackles to cut back and fire a low shot that Phil got his hand to but couldn't keep it out of the net.
Kildonan tied up the game 20 minutes in off a free kick outside the 18yrd box. Jake meant to dip it over the wall, but instead scuffed the shot. The ball hit the goaltender which rebounded out to Kramer who was in the 6yd box and made no mistake as he only had to guide the ball into the net.
Kildonan kept up the pressure on the Players Club who were tiring in the 2nd half and it was Duane that got the game winner.
Despite the win, Kildonan's fate in the playoffs are still undetermined with two other teams vying for the 6th and last spot. Both teams have games to play so it won't be until next week where Kildonan will find out if they did enough for the last playoff spot.
Kildonan were focused and determined to not lose 3 in a row, despite going up against the divisions top team, Selkirk FC.
Selkirk had added a lot of youth over the off-season and were pressuring hard in the first half, showing why they had only lost 1 game so far this season.
With 5 minutes from half time, an unmarked selkirk player 25 yards out found himself along and not being closed down. He took a speculative low, hard shot that ended up beating Phil on the opposite side to go up 1-0.
Kildonan didn't give up in the 2nd half and were a bit more livelier in the 2nd half. They had more composure on the ball and seeing the Selkirk keeper drop the ball a few times, were pressuring every time it went to him.
They were finally rewarded when the keeper dropped the ball in front of Jeff, who only had to move forward with his body to carry the ball past the line and tie up the game.
Despite pressure from both sides, the game ended at a stalemate with each team taking a point.
Next up is Bonivital United who have struggled all season since their opening loss to the Cavs at the start of the year.
Kildonan suffered their third loss of the season.
Despite starting out strong in the first 10 mins, they had 3 opportunities to break the deadlock but all 3 were stopped by the post, cross-bar or the keeper.
Things went south when one of the Luso Guest players found himself 30 yards out with no one challenging him. He decided to take a speculative shot that beat Phil and put them up by 1 goal.
Their second goal was a off the counterattack where they found the left side and beat the defender and the shot despite hitting the post, found its way into the net.
Kildonan couldn't find a way through for the remainder of the half and found themselves on the wrong end of a 2-0 scoreline.
Next up is division leaders Selkirk FC, who have quietly rose up the standings only losing once in the last 8 games and having the best GF/GA in the league. Hopefully Kildonan can use this game to get them out of the downward spiral.
Kildonan suffered their second loss of the season in an uninspired game.
Despite a gritty win in the pouring rain against Brandon Inspire, Kildonan looked flat and lethargic and Celtic hungry for the win capitalized twice in the first half to go up 2-0.
Kildonan got one back in the 75th minute. A turn over found Matt wide on the left who moved the ball quickly down and made a low cross finding a streaking Duane who hit it one time and made no mistake giving him the 2nd goal of the season.
Despite better pressure in the 2nd half, Kildonan couldn't find enough shots on the call up keeper for Celtic and finished with a loss.
Next up is a rematch with Luso Canadians at the Soccer Complex June 26th at 10 pm.
The Cavs suffered their first loss of the season to a young, skilled, U18 FCNorthwest side.
The first half was not very complimentary to the Cavs with FCN opening up the scoring on a bouncing ball in the 18 yard box after a FCNW throw in. The ball took an awkward deflection and dribbled just inside the corner leaving Phil out of position and no chance.
The Cavs tied it up with a penalty shot, taken by Duane, after a foul in the 18 yard box.
With renewed optimism the Cavs took to the field in the 2nd half and found themselves quickly down 2-1 in the first minute after a speedy forward won the foot race against Cory and beat Phil for the 2nd goal.
A harsh hand ball outside the 18 yrd box gave FCNW a free kick and a curling low shot swerved around the 3 man wall and beat Phil at the near post.
Despite more pressure in the last 25 mins, the Cavs couldn't capitalize on any chances and were left with a loss.
Next up is Brandon Inspire who have gone on a 2 game win streak, followed mid-week against Celtics at Vince Leah.
The Cavs took to the field on a hot, Saturday afternoon at noon against a Portage side that had failed to win in their last 3 games.
Kildonan put the pressure on immediatly and kept attacking. Duane was rewarded with his first goal of the season against his old team, beating a defender and then a low shot that left the keeper no chance.
Amir got the second of the game and of the season heading the ball in with a perfect cross from Matt on the right side.
2nd half saw the heat wear down Portage who had only 2 subs, and Kildonan was fortunate to have 5 on the bench.
Jeremy scored his 3rd of the season with a late run into the 18 yard box. Morgan made no mistake by passing the ball to an onrushing Jeremey who one-timed it into the net, leaving the keeper no chance.
Despite the Portage keeper performance, where it could have been another 2-3 goals for the Cavs, he was unable to stop the 4th in the 88th minute. Josh from his defensive position headed the ball in with force off a corner kick, leaving the keeper no chance and wrapping up the win.
Next up Waverley Mitsubishi who are 3-1 with their only loss to Players Club
The Cavaliers opened up the season with a 3-0 win against an understrength Bonivital Blaze. It took 35 mins. for Clayton to break the deadlock with a low shot that squeezed between the keeper's legs.
Bonivital played with 10 men for about 65 mins when one of their players went off injured With no subs they had to play down a man for the remainder of the game.
2nd half subs continued the pressure that the first half team started and were rewarded with 2 more goals by Jeff Penner.
Beyond the 3 goals, it should have been at least 6 with CJ missing 2, Keegan missing 2 and Brian scuffing a shot in the 18 yard box.
Next up is Selkirk in Selkirk on Monday May 12th. Game time at 7 pm
