Kildonan Cavaliers 2018

Cavs relegated for 2019

Cavs were looking to avoid the drop for 2019 with their final two games. A win against Bandits and at least a point on the road against Winkler would keep them safe for 2019.

Bandits needed the win as well to keep themselves safe for 2019. They got off to an early start, converting a quick chance and beating Ben in goal while Phil was on his way.

Cavs rebounded back with Jeff firing a low, hard shot on the Bandits keeper, who could only parry it away to a rushing David who made no mistake to tie up the game.

Bandits struck back in quick succession, scoring 2 goals off of corner kicks, with both players unmarked in the 6 yrd box.

Jeff got one back but it was not enough with Bandits holding onto the lead, and sending the Cavs down to Division 2 for the next season.

Kildonan vs Winkler

Despite being a meaningless game, Kildonan showed up with a full squad and subs for the match. Missing a lot of their regulars, Winkler piled on pressure in the first half and went up 3-0.

2nd half Winkler didn't press as much and the Cavs weren't able to muster much of a threat in their box. Winkler added 1 more and the Cavs were left with a final loss to the season.

Kildonan falls in Bison Cup Semis

Kildonan were underwhelming in the Bison Cup Semi-finals, going up against Division 2 leaders Lions. Forced to have Ben go in net, he was unlucky when a shot blasted over his head in the first half, giving Lions the lead.

Cristovao replaced Ben in the 2nd half, but were undone 40 seconds in when a sloppy pass in the middle was interecepted by a Lions attacker who beat Cristovao to go up by 2.

Lions were awarded a questionable foul in the box, which lead to protests from the Cavs and a 2nd bookable offence leading to a sending off. Lions converted the penalty and put 3 more through to finish the scoring 6-0.

Kildonan is looking to salvage their season in their remaining two games.  Defeating Bandits would require the Cavs only needing a point in their match against Winkler to stay in Division 1.

Kildonan into Bison Cup semis

For the 2nd straight game, Kildonan advanced to the next round of the Bison Cup, with a 3 -0 default win over Hanover Sting, who couldn't field enough players for the game.

The quarter final matchup against D2, Dunvegan Castle was also a forfeit win as they weren't able to field a team either.

Kildonan is joined by Britannia, who also won due to forfeit, Scotia who defeated premier side WSA Winnipeg, 2-0, and either Granite or Lions FC in the Semi final.

Kildonan still struggles in the division with 9 points and sitting in 10th spot due to goal differential. Kildonan has 4 games left and must win all 4 games if they want a chance to stay in the division for 2019.

Cavs 2017_18 Indoor Champs

The Cavs were victorious, 2-0 over 5th place Scorpions to take the Division 2 Indoor half title for their first time.  Kyle got the winning goal, taking a low hard shot from 20 yards out beating the keeper. Alex added the insurance goal off a free kick, leaving the opposing keeper no chance as it curled into the top corner.

kildonan had an all around solid performance, limiting Scorpions to less then a handful shots on net, and applying constant pressure throughout the game.

Despite finishing in 6th place, Kildonan stormed through the playoffs and earned the well deserved title.

Cavs inch closer to 2nd place

The Cavs showed character 36 hrs later from their penalty shootout defeat to IPAC Ukraine to beating an understrength Galaticos, 4-1 on a cold/wet Saturday morning.

Despite the Cavs having all 13 players checked and ready to go at 9:50 am, the opposition wasn't ready until 10:15 which made the game shorten its halves to 35 mins.

Kyle struck first in the 6th minute. Making an overlapping run to the corner, he gathered the ball and made his way to the net unopposed and cooly slotted the ball past the keeper at an impossible angle to make it 1-0.

Rob got the 2nd. A corner kick failed to clear and the ball bounced to Matty who struck it hard enough the keeper could only parry. Rob streaked in for the loose ball and hammered it home to give the cavs a 2 goal lead.

The 3rd and 2nd of the match and year for Kyle, found him again coming from a deep, overlapping position. Heading straight to the keeper he smashed the ball which hit the crossbar and bounced back for his own rebound, which he took and buried it to make it 3.

Matty got the fourth, being in the right spot at the right time. A low cross found Matty unmarked at the far post, who tapped it at the sprawling keeper. fortunately the ball rebounded off the keepers back and in.

Galaticos, playing with 9 men, asked for the game to be shortenend as they didn't want to risk injuries. They added a consolation goal just before the whistle for a final 4-1 win.

Next up is Borussia Dortmund in what will be a must win game for crucial points to try and finish in 2nd in the division.

Kick off is at BUHLER PARK- Sunday the 24th at 3pm.

Cavs win but promotion out of reach

In cold conditions the Cavs finished off the season 3-1 winners to last place Scorpions FC, and extended their unbeaten run to 7 straight games in the league.

First half was a bit sloppy and ended goalless. The Cavs went out in the 2nd half more motivated and were rewarded 7 minutes in with their first goal. A bizarre ref decision decided a drop ball would take place outside the 18. Clay won the drop and quickly flicked to a rushing ben who beat one defender and side footed the ball home to the far post to give them the go ahead goal.

Clayton was the provider for the 2nd goal. A great run down the left side beat the defender and a low cross could only be parried into the path of Alex, who rushed to slot the ball home and go up by 2.

Chad got the 3rd, deking out the defender and leaving him on the ground so he could  curl a right footed shot to the far top post leaving the keeper with no chance.

Scorpions got one back on a questionable, non-offside call, despite the attacker being 5 ft past the line of defence.

No further scoring and the Cavs finished the season with an 11-7-0 record, after being 4-7 in mid-July and facing prospects of relegation.

The win isn't enough to secure one of the two automatic promotion spots, as Bandits won their final game due to forfeit, and both Galaticos and Rovers had to play each other in their final game.

The Cavs will participate in Division 2 of 8 a-side soccer through the MMSL for the winter season, as they keep focused for the 2018 outdoor season.

Cavs advance to Rd of 16

The Cavs faced St.James Spurs from Division 6 in their entry into the Bison Cup. The Cavs haven't played St.James in close to 10 years.

Cavs could have gotten on the board early, when a foul in the box was awarded. Jeff stepped up but his shot was guessed right by the keeper and kept the score level.

Despite 5 corners in the first half, the Cavs couldn't capitalize on any chances. Jeff got the first of the game, a scramble in the box that he hammered over the line.

Brian Collins got his 5th of the year with his trademark long range shot. The ball hit a defender that made it loop up and over the keeper to give them a 2 goal cushion.

St.james got one back, playing a quick 1-2 that beat the defenders and phil.

Kildonan maintained possession of the ball, sending Jeff in on multiple runs into the box. Jeff was rewarded with 2 more goals to put the game away at 4-1. The Cavs will now wait for their opponent in the Round of 16, while facing off against Bandits on Monday the 28th.

Cavs win despite the weather

In a 10 celcius weather, with constant wind and rain, Kildonan put on their most well balanced game of the year, defeating Borussia Dortmund 3-1 on Sunday the 24th.

Lead by a 3 goal performance from Chad Penner, Kildonan dominated the first half, despite going into the win. Both goals came from crosses, supplied by David F. who found Chad each time to bury the ball past the keeper.

Borussia got one back just before half off a corner kick that somehow found an unmarked attacker in the box who flicked it past Phil.

2nd half started with Chad receiving a through ball, out muscling the defender and beating the keeper 1 on 1 to complete his hatrick and secure the win.

The win gives the Cavs 30 points with 1 game remaining, but Bandit who were playing on the other field were 1-0 winners over Lions FC. Cavs will require a win in their last game and hope that two of the 3 teams above them drop points in their final games.

Next up is Scorpions on Sunday, Oct. 8th, 3 pm at Buhler park.

Cavs record back to back wins

The Cavs started off the weekend right, winning their match against Rovers FC, 2 - 1 at Buhler park. Golden converted as a striker for the game recorded both goals and the game winner.

Sunday at noon was the 2nd matchup, a new game added by the league without any prior notice. Cavs almost forfeited if they hadn't discovered the match, and opponents AC Fiorentina could only field 10 men on what proved to be a hot afternoon.

Credit to Fiorentina for staying in the game. It took the Cavs 35 minutes to get the open goal. Jeff beat a defender and muscled his way past to score the first. The 2nd goal was created by Ben who crossed from the right side of the field. Golden refused to let it go out, who chipped it back from the byline and was met by the head of Jeff Penner to get his 2nd of the game.

2nd half Fiorentina tried to contain any more scoring. Jeff was fed a great through ball who quickly added a 3rd off the restart. Jeff would add his 4th of the game, and was assisted by both Rob and Ben who each notched their first for the season.

Now is a two week break due to the Canada Summer Games.  Next up is the first round of the Bison Cup and they return to league action on Monday the 14th against Galaticos.

Cavs suffer 6th league defeat

In a game that featured 4 penalty shots, 2 for each team, Kildonan was outplayed by a quicker Lions team and fell 4-2 on the day.

Lions was awarded a controversial penalty in the 10th minute, when the Lions player went down under the lightest of tackles. He didn't scream until he hit the ground and that's when the ref pointed to the spot.

Kildonan got a goal back, with a handball in the box from a Lions defender. Jeff went up and made no mistake to tie the game.

Lions went on the offensive in the 2nd half and managed to score 2 goals. The Cavs could have responded when they were awarded another penalty shot. But Chad's attempt was saved by the Lions keeper that guessed right.

Clayton got his second of the season, a long shot out from the wing that beat the keeper, but Lions retaliated with another long strike that caught Phil unaware for their fourth.

Kildonan needs to rebound when they play Kildonan Athletic at the Complex, 12 noon on Saturday the 16th.

Cavs undone by poor calls

Cavs went into Selkirk with a small bench and having to play at noon when it was 27 celcius. Not to be deterred, the Cavs got off to a great start. 6 minutes in, Ben on the wing evaded a Selkirk defender and hit a cross toward the net that rebounded off the keeper.

Chad was on the spot and had to do some work to tap in the rebound and put the Cavs up by 1.

All that work was undone when the ref called a handball in the box. A questionable call as the ball bounced up and hit Golden on his hand as his arms were close to his body. Phil guessed the right way and got a piece of it, but the shot was too hard and it rebounded into the net.

Most of the game the Cavs were avoided "studs high" tackles that the ref did nothing about. One incident led to Lorenzo having to go to the hospital for stitches under his chin, when a careless Selkirk player went in for the ball when Lorenzo was trying to get off the ground and hit Enzo on the chin.

A perfectly good onside ball, after the Selkirk keeper dropped it outside the box, had Ben again put in a great cross to Jeff who, onside and surrounded by 3 Selkirk defenders and a back pedaling keeper, heading the ball home. Much to his surprise, the ref blew for offside, disallowing the goal.

Despite the heat, the Cavs worked well to keep the ball and make scoring chances. The cavs were unlucky to be caught on a counterattack with a speedy Selkirk forward beating the defence and slotting home the winner with 20 mins. remaining.

The Cavs pressed but Selkirk did well to get their bodies behind the ball on the shots.

Next up is Lions FC again. Their first meeting ended with a 3-1 win for the Cavs.

Cavs making it two in a row

Cavs made it two in a row, beating a 10 man Scorpions 4-2 on a rain drenched night.

Kildonan opened the scoring in the 2nd minute. A pin point free kick from Clayton found an unmarked Jeff in the 6 yrd box who only had to turn and shoot to make it 1-0.

Scorpions got their 10th man and Clayton added his 2nd of the year, dancing around 2 defenders in the box to slot it past the keeper.

Matt added the third before half to give the Cavs a good lead. Scorpions didn't give up in the 2nd half. They capitalized a defensive error to allow a goal to make it 3-1. Then David was judged to have handled a ball in the box on an awkward cross. The Scorpion kicker made no mistake and made it 3-2.

Jeff got his second of the night and added the insurance goal, a 30 yard rocket that hit the top corner with no chance for the keeper.

Kildonan will play Borussia Dortmund next, who are 4-2 on Monday, June 19th at Buhler park.

Cavs suffer 4th defeat

Cavs found themselves down 3-0 at the first half whistle and despite reqrouping and having a better 2nd half, had to settle for a 3-1 loss against Borussia.

Brian Collins, with his 3rd of the season, took a free kick approx. 40 yards out. The goal floated into the far post with the keeper having no chance. All of Brian's goals have been off of Free kicks this year.

Despite some other opportunities, the Cavs could have equalized, but were either stopped by a Dortmund defender or the woodwork.

The Cavs look to rebound into the win column when they take on Lions FC on Monday the 26th, 7:30 pm at Buhler Field #2.

Kildonan lose 3rd game of the season

The Cavs were shutout the 2nd time this season, losing 1-0 against Selkirk FC on a blustery day at Buhler park.

Selkirk, going against the win broke the scoring in the 6th minute, with an attacker weaving through the Cavs defence and slotting the shot to the far side.

The best shot of the night came from Phil in net.  With the wind at his back, Phil decided to launch a kick down the field that almost caught the Selkirk keeper sleeping. He retreated in time to put the ball over the crossbar and keep the score at 1-0.

Despite some good chances, Kildonan either failed to hit the net or were stopped by the Selkirk keeper on numerous occasions.

The loss leaves Kildonan at the bottom of the division, with 1 win and 3 losses. Its early in the season so there is no need to panic, but further losses could erode their chances for promotion.

Next up is Galaticos on Sunday June 4th. Game kicks off at RCSC Field at 4pm.

Cavs get their 2nd win

The Cavs got their 2nd win of the season with a convincing win of 3-0 over Galaticos.

Brian Collins got his 2nd of the season, a free kick in the 43rd minute that floated into the net at the far post.

Jeff got his 3rd and 4th of the season. His second was a great individual run brushing off a defender as he rifled a shot at the far post leaving the keeper no chance.

Matt could have made it 4, playing a one two with Rob in the box. His tight angle shot bounce off the inside of the far post and no Cav could put away the loose ball.

Next up is  Scorpions on Friday the 9th at Buhler Park, 7:30 pm.

Kildonan defeated in opening match

Kildonan were defeated by a high skilled, organized team, Rovers FC 1-0 at the Soccer complex last night.

Rovers is a Masters teams that regularly competes to go to the National Club championship every year.  With a lot of ex-Premier players, the Cavs knew it would be a good test for them.

The cavs showed a lot of confidence moving the ball around and were unlucky to not get something out of the game.

They recorded 7 shots at the keeper, but most were too far out or too light to trouble their keeper.

The only goal of the game was in the 43rd minute. A failed clearance popped the ball back to a Rovers player just outside the 18. He calmly took space and fired a low hard shot beating Phil.

Kildonan takes on Kildonan Athletic Club next week, May 10th at 10 pm.
