KILDONAN CAVALIERS 2016

Cavs offered a slight lifeline

The Cavs were offered a slim lifeline, despite losing to Winkler last week, with 8th place Internazionale losing their last 3 games of the season.

Inter now sits with 21 points and a -9 goal differential and all 18 games played.

The Cavs have 2 games to play with 15 points and a -13 GD.  The challenge will be the Cavs need to beat Lions and 1st place and promoted Hanover Kickers in their final 2 games and record a +5 difference between both games to finish 8th spot, as that is the first tie breaker in the league.

A huge task considering Hanover has only lost 1 game this season, but their only meeting with the Cavs ended in a 0-0 tie.

Next up is Lions FC on the 19th, 6:30 pm at the soccer complex, field #1.

Cavs relegated to Division 2

Cavs were in control of their destiny for Monday's night game. After beating Lions 5-1 and improving their GD to -9, a win over the first place Hanover kickers would see them remain in Division 1 for the 2017 season.

Despite some close calls, Hanover failed to convert all of their chances and Kildonan responded to a few of their own, but neither team could finish in the net.

2nd half was much of the same, with Hanover visibly frustrated that they weren't scoring goals against the lower ranked team. Kildonan was a bit better off, pushing the HK keeper to make some saves.

Everything changed in the 82nd minute. A ball in the 6yrd box was blocked a few times and the defence were unable to clear. A hanover player ran into the box and rifled the ball from within the 6 yrd box to give them the 1-0 lead.

While pressing, Kildonan was caught and an unmarked Hanover player sealed the win with the 2nd goal of the night.

Despite the loss, Kildonan played one of their better games in the season. Relegation is disappointing but Kildonan had their chances to stay in the division with lost games that should have been wins.

Kildonan will not be entering a team for the winter season. Check back in February, 2017 for news on the upcoming season, training and try-out dates.

Corner kicks: In a close race, Rob Ivekovic claimed the golden boot winner for the team in the 2016 season with 5 goals. Brian Penner finished 3rd with 4 and Matt Labdon was robbed of some incorrect goal calculations who was credited with 3, when it should have been 5.

Cavs drop 3 pts to Winkler

Kildonan suffered their 9th defeat of the season and with it, the chances of staying in Division 1 became a bit more unrealistic.

In a game that saw Kildonan test the Winkler keeper, they were undone in the 2nd half by a Winkler corner kicker that found an unmarked Winkler player in the 18 yrd box who took the time to settle and fire the ball into the net for the only goal of the game.

Despite their own chances, Kildonan were either beat by the bar or the keeper in their attempt to tie the game up.

The result leaves the Cavs with 15 points and 1 game on hand against Brandon Inspire who sit with 20 points and 1 game to go. Their last game is against the winless Lions FC and are most likely to win that match.

The Cavs also have a game to play against Lions on the 19th, and their final game is against Division leaders, Hanover Kickers who will be promoted at the end of the year, and have only lost 1 game this year.

Kildonan needed 3 points to keep out of the regulation zone and despite the scoreless first half, WSA knocked into 2 goal enroute to their 2-0 victory.

Despite some keys saves from phil, two mental mistakes allowed WSA two chances that Phil didn't have a chance on.

The Cavs take a week off and are back in action against Winkler Storm, Friday Sept. 9th at 8pm.

Their first meeting in Winkler had the Cavs play the entire game with 10 men for a 6-2 loss. The Cavs are looking for revenge and won't be an easy target this time around.

Hanover game called in 42nd minute

Despite the rain, the game in Steinbach played on until the 42nd minute when the ref stopped play for lightning.

After a 20 minute wait, they tried to continue but lightning persisted and the ref suspended the game.

The league will have to re-schedule the match and the 42 minutes showed what the Cavs need to work on as they went down 4-0 when the ref called the game.

Next up is WSA Winnipeg on Thursday the 25th at 10 pm. Their last outing was on a rain soaked field and WSA scored the only goal of the game on a speculative corner kick that curled into the net.

Cavs unbeaten streak extends to 4

Kildonan got their 3rd straight win of the season in a see saw battle that saw 7 goals.

Kildonan struck first. A sloppy back pass from the Waverley defence saw Rob I pressure and was rewarded with winning the ball, rounding the keeper and putting it off the post and in from an impossible angle to go up 1.

Waverley responded and than Jeff took the lead with a header to go up 2-1. Waverley came back to tie it up 2-2 on a questionable penalty shot. Although the foul happened outside the box, the ref awarded the pk.

Matt L, back from vacation in England put the Cavs ahead 3-2 with a  through ball from Golden. Matt beat the defender and the keeper to add his 2nd to the season.

Waverley tied it up again, leaving an open man in the 6 yrd box that just had to tap it in to beat phil.

The game winner came from Matt L again. A bouncing ball was missed by the keeper and defender and he managed to get his body in the way to put the ball over the line.

Kildonan held on to earn the win and get out of the relegation zone with news that Brandon was forfeiting their Friday game against WSA.

Next up is Hanover in Steinbach. Hanover are the current division leaders but the first encounter ended with a 0-0 tie.

Kick off at 7 pm.

Kildonan unbeaten in 3

Kildonan recorded their 3rd win of the season, and second straight downing Brandon Inspire in Portage, 3-2 on Thursday night.

Despite going down 1-0 in the 15th minute, Kildonan maintained their calm and applied pressure, which lead to Rob I beating a defender and crossing the ball from the byline to an unmarked Amir who tapped it into the empty net to tie it before half.

Brandon applied more pressure in the 2nd half and were rewarded with multiple corner kicks. on one play, Clayton jumped in the air to head the ball, but his outstretched hand caught it and Brandon was awarded a PK.

Phil was up to the task, dove the right way and blocked it to keep the game level.

The Cavs were fired up and applied more pressure with the ball in Brandon's half. That lead to Rob scoring his 3rd of the season, unmarked in the box during a failed offside trap, Amir this time was the provider and Rob made no mistake with the go ahead goal.

Brian Penner got the third, beating the defender on a through ball and a breakaway going one on one with the goalie gave Kildonan 3.

Brandon got within 1 on a very questionable hand ball against Lorenzo when he was knocked to the ground and the ball rebounded off his arm. Ref awarded the Pk and Phil couldn't stop this one.

The last 5 minutes had Kildonan trying to kill the game off by were met by a motivated Brandon team looking for the tie. Kildonan were successful to record the win and now have 12 points, but remain in 9th place.

Next up is Waverley Mitsubishi who have 5 games on hand on the Cavs, but are only ahead by 2 points.

Kildonan take on Waverley

Kildonan will look to rebound from their 3-2 loss to Brandon inspire as they take on Waverley Mitsubishi, Sunday June 5th, 8 pm at Shaugnessy Park.

Coach and players also wish Morgan a speedy recovery who suffered a broken ankle in the Brandon game. The expectation is that Morgan will miss the next 6 weeks.

Kildonan still searches for 2nd win

Kildonan took on Britannia still looking for their 2nd win of the season at Shaugnessy park.

Despite going ahead 1-0 in the 5th minute, with Rob F scoring his first for the club, Kildonan couldn't maintain the lead in the 2nd half and Britannia tied it up with 15 minutes to go.

Kildonan applied a bit more pressure in the final 10 minutes but it wasn't enough to get a goal, as shots were limited on the Britannia Keeper.

The Cavs faced Internazionale at a 10 pm kick off with a wind making the temperature -1 Celcius. Kildonan got some rhythm in the first couple of minutes but were unlucky to concede a penalty at the 16min mark when an Inter player was clipped in the box. The kicker made no mistake to make it 1-0.

Inter got their 2nd on a well placed chip that beat the onrushing Phil from the net to make it 2-0.

Despite new signing Mark being brought down in the box, the Cavs couldn't convert the penalty and finished with a 2-0 loss.

Next up is Lions FC that Kildonan faced in 2015 in Division 2.

Kick off is 10pm at the Complex, Thursday, May 19th.
