The 2009-2010 Season in Review
During the 2009-2010 High School, Folkstyle, Freestyle & Greco Roman wrestling seasons, NWWC wrestlers (ages four through eighteen) amassed 33 State Championship Medals (1st through 8th place), 13 Individual State Titles, 3 High School All-American Honors and a FILA Cadet National Championship. As a team, NWWC placed 1st at the WA Kids Freestyle State Championships (PeeWee & Bantam Divisions) and 6th at the WA Cadet/Junior State Championships (High School Divisions).

2010 USAW Cadet & ASICS/Vaughan Junior National Championships
Northwest Washington Wrestling Club sent three Kitsap County high school wrestlers to Fargo, ND to compete for Team Washington at the 2010 USAW Cadet & Junior National Championships over the week of July 18th. Jake Velarde and Lauren Richardson both earned All-American honors by placing in the top eight.

2010 WSWA Cadet/Junior Freestyle State Championships
Northwest Washington Wrestling Club sent eight high school wrestlers to Spokane, WA to compete at the 2010 WSWA Cadet & Junior Freestyle State Championships on Saturday, May 15th. Adam Burchett, Lauren Richardson, Jake Velarde and Cody Yeik each won individual titles and qualified to wrestle for Team Washington at the USAW Cadet & Junior National Championships in Fargo, ND, July 18-24, 2010.
NWWC placed sixth out of sixty-nine competing teams - congratulations to the following wrestlers:

2010 WSWA Kids Freestyle State Championships
Northwest Washington Wrestling Club (NWWC) of Kitsap County dominated the PeeWee Division (4-6yrs) and Bantam Division (6-8yrs) at the 2010 WSWA Kids Freestyle Wrestling Championships in Centralia, WA on Saturday, May 8th, winning each division handily. Read about it in the Kitsap Sun. But it was the record-breaking performance of Bobby Reece that headlined the event and lead NWWC to a Fourth Place team finish - its highest place finish at the annual state tournament since 2006. Reece won his 8th Kids Freestyle State Championship (out of ten opportunities) and became the first wrestler in Washington State history to do so. Click here to read about Reece's accomplishments.
A total of seventeen NWWC wrestlers ages 4 to 14 competed at the tournament - twelve athletes medaled, placing in the top eight, while five earned individual championships.

2010 WSWA Greco-Roman State Championships
All five NWWC wrestlers who traveled to Sedro Woolley, WA on Saturday, May 1st to compete at the 2010 WSWA Greco-Roman State Championships earned top-eight finishes and qualified to wrestle for Team Washington at the Greco Roman Kids/Cadet Western Regional Tournament in Pocatello, ID on June 22nd. NWWC's Jake Velarde defeated Nathan Kraisser of Maryland 0-6, 2-0, 1-0 to win the Greco-Roman 54 KG/119 LBS weight class at the FILA Cadet Nationals in Akron, OH on Friday, April 9th. Velarde's fist-place finish qualified him for Washington's national team which will compete at the Cadet & ASICS/Vaughan Junior National Championships in Fargo, N.D. from July 18-24.
Eight elite Washington wrestlers made the trip to Ohio to wrestle for the national title in both the Greco-Roman and Freestyle divisions over the weekend. NWWC’s Lauren Richardson (Junior Division – 102 lbs) Placed 3rd at the 2010 USAW Girls` Folkstyle Nationals in Oklahoma City over the weekend of March 26th & 27th.

2010 USAW Northwest Cadet & Junior Regional Championships
Four NWWC high school wrestlers traveled down to Battleground, WA to compete at the Northwest Cadet & Junior Regional Championships March 27th & 28th with nearly 500 other wrestlers representing seven different states (WA, OR, CA, ID, UT, AK, FL). Jake Velarde defeated National Champion Hayden Tuma (Idaho) to win the Greco Roman championship. Jake Velarde, Adam Burchett and Neil Sell were all top three place winners and qualified for the Cadet & Junior National Championships in Fargo, ND; July 18-24, 2010.

NWWC wrapped up our 2009-2010 Folkstyle Wrestling Season at the 2010 Washington State Folkstyle Wrestling Championships on Saturday, Jan 30th and Sunday, Jan 31st at West Valley High School in Spokane. The tournament included 95 teams and 1000 of the state's best wrestlers competing. The top 8 wrestlers in each age and weight division medaled.
