The 2016-2017 Season in Review
During the 2016-2017 USAW Folkstyle, Freestyle and Greco-Roman wrestling seasons, 180 NWWC wrestlers ages four through eighteen amassed 90 WSWA State Championship medals, 6 USAW National Championship medals, 22 individual State Titles, 4 individual Regional Titles, and one individual USAW National Title. As a team, NWWC placed 2nd at the WSWA Freestyle State Championships, 5th at the WSWA Folkstyle State Championships and 7th at the Greco-Roman State Championships.

08/17-19/2017
2017 Pacific Coast Camp & Duals
NWWC's Stone Hartford of Port Orchard, age 11, and Mitchell Neiner of Port Orchard, age 12, traveled to Burnaby, BC over the weekend of August 17th to Crotch-Throw and Cole-Roll through the 2017 Pacific Coast Camp & Duals. Mr. Neiner earned Camp MVP honors and went undefeated in the dual tournament. The international camp & duals drew novice and elite-level wrestlers from six Canadian provinces and six US states. Congratulations to both NWWC wrestlers.

2017 USS At The Midway
Four NWWC wrestlers spent the weekend of August 11th on the San Diego waterfront competing outdoors at the 2017 USS At The Midway freestyle & folksyle wrestling tournaments; all four wrestlers earned top-2 finishes. Haley Michaelson and Thor Michaelson battled their final opponent on the flight deck of the USS Midway aircraft carrier. The USS At The Midway drew over 1100 entries from across the US. Congratulations to all four NWWC wrestlers.

2017 USAW Kids Freestyle & Greco-Roman National Championships
Four NWWC wrestlers traveled to Atlanta, GA over the weekend of June 27th to compete among the nation's top Freestyle & Greco-Roman youth wrestlers at the 2017 USAW Kids Freestyle & Greco-Roman National Championships. Together, the four-man team racked-up twenty-three wins and five All-American honors. Lars Michaelson of Bremerton, age 11, led the charge with a Freestyle National Title and a bronze medal in the Greco-Roman tournament. Michaelson's top-3 finishes earned him a spot on both the Freestyle and Greco-Roman U.S. Kids National Team. Thor Michaelson of Bremerton, age 13, finished 6th in the Greco-Roman tournament and 7th in the Freestyle tournament. Mitchell Neiner of Port Orchard, age 12, placed fourth in the Greco-Roman tournament.

The 2017 USAW Kids Freestyle & Greco-Roman National Championships drew nearly 1200 entries from 40 different states. Congratulations to all four NWWC wrestlers.

2017 USAW West Kids/Cadet & Girls Regional Championships
Eight NWWC families and eleven wrestlers traveled to Pocatello, ID over the week of June 18th to compete for Team Washington at the 2017 USAW West Kids/Cadet & Girls Freestyle & Greco-Roman Regional Championships. The annual tournaments pit the top youth wrestlers from twelve western states for a seat at the 2017 USAW Kids Freestyle & Greco-Roman National Championships in Atlanta, GA on June 29th.

Jonny Robles of Port Orchard, age 8, led the club with two gold medals and the Bantam 55 lb Outstanding Wrestler award. Both Robles and Lars Michaelson of Bremerton, age 11, earned West Regional freestyle titles. Robles and Hannah Johnson of Poulsbo, age 14, earned West Regional folkstyle titles. In all, eleven NWWC wrestlers returned home with twelve medals, four individual titles and one Outstanding Wrestler award. Congratulations to all eleven NWWC wrestlers.

2017 USAW Schoolboy National Duals
NWWC's Quinn Lawrence of Poulsbo (70 lbs), Mitchell Neiner of Port Orchard (77 lbs) and Thor Michaelson of Bremerton (112 lbs) traveled to Indianapolis, IN on June 6th to compete for Team Washington at the 2017 USAW Freestyle and Greco Roman Schoolboy National Duals. All three NWWC wrestlers earned victories to help Team Washington to a 13-3 record through both tournaments. Thor Michaelson also earned All-Freestyle honors by recording a 7-0 record in the Freestyle tournament. As a group, Team Washington finished 3rd place in the Freestyle tournament and 2nd place in the Greco Roman tournament tying an all-time best for Washington State dual teams. Thank you Coach Sean Ekerson, Coach Steve Losee, Coach Damon McPherson and Coach Thomas McBride, and congratulations to all three NWWC wrestlers.

2017 Chain Wrestling Post-Season Camp
NWWC's Mitchell Neiner, Haley Michaelson, Thor Michaelson and Lars Michaelson traveled to Carnation, WA on Saturday, June 3rd to learn from Oklahoma State University stand-outs and Team Washington legends Jordan Rogers and Chandler Rogers, and fellow NCAA All-American Anthony Collica, at the 2017 Chain Wrestling Post-Season Wrestling Camp. All three clinicians were gentlemen, role models and excellent coaches. Thank you Chain Wrestling Club and Tim Weinert.

2017 WSWA Schoolboy National Team Camp
NWWC's Mitchell Neiner of Port Orchard (77 lbs), Quinn Lawrence of Poulsbo (70 lbs) and Thor Michaelson of Bremerton (112 lbs) traveled to Cusick, WA over Memorial Day weekend to train with Washington's National Schoolboy Team in preparation for the 2017 USAW Freestyle and Greco-Roman Schoolboy National Duals. All three wrestlers will represent Team Washington at the 2017 USAW Freestyle and Greco-Roman Schoolboy National Dual Tournament in Indianapolis, IN over the week of June 7th; the annual tournament pits over thirty state dual teams and 600 of the nation's top schoolboy-age wrestlers against each other in 17 different weight classes.

2017 USAW Northern Plains FS & GR Regionals
Three NWWC wrestlers traveled to Rochester, MN over the weekend of May 19th to compete at the 2017 Northern Plains Freestyle & Greco-Roman Regional Championships. Lars Michaelson of Bremerton, age 11, led the three-man team with a Freestyle Championship on Saturday. The Regional tournament drew nearly 900 top youth and high school wrestlers from Illinois, Iowa, Minnesota, Nebraska, North Dakota, South Dakota and Wisconsin (and Washington). Congratulations to all three NWWC wrestlers.

2017 WSWA Freestyle & Greco-Roman State Championships
Forty-five athletes representing the Kitsap Peninsula and the mighty NWWC traveled to the NW Sports Hub in Centralia, WA on May 6th and 7th to compete among Washington's top Freestyle and Greco-Roman wrestlers at the 2017 WSWA Freestyle and Greco-Roman State Championships. The two tournaments drew nearly 1600 entries from 85 wrestling clubs throughout the state. 

Over the weekend, eleven NWWC wrestlers captured individual state titles including Samuel Moran of Gig Harbor, age 6, and Xavier Eaglin of Port Orchard, Age 14, who both earned their second and third state championship of 2017 and the prestigious Triple Crown Award (Folkstyle, Freestyle and Greco-Roman State Titles). As a team, NWWC won the PeeWee, Bantam and Novice divisions and finished second overall at the Freestyle State Tournament. NWWC also won the Bantam division at the Greco-Roman State Tournament and placed seventh overall.

In total, NWWC finished the weekend with sixty medals, eighteen individual state titles and the club's eighth consecutive top-5 team finish at the Freestyle State Tournament. Congratulations to all forty-five NWWC wrestlers.

Auburn FS & GR Freedom Slam
Congratulations to all the NWWC wrestlers who traveled to Auburn Mountain View High School on Saturday, April 29th to compete at the Auburn Freedom Slam freestyle and greco-roman wrestling tournaments. Individual and team results for the freestyle tournament are not available due to tournament software issues. As for the greco tournament, all thirteen NWWC wrestlers earned top-3 finishes including nine individual championships (results below). As a team, NWWC took 1st place.

Vandit 'Girls Only' 3-Style
Four NWWC wrestlers traveled to Mount Vernon High School on Sunday, April 24th to compete at the Vandit 'Girls Only' Freestyle, Greco-Roman and Folkstyle wrestling tournaments. All four wrestlers returned home with top-3 medals. The girls-only tournaments drew over 80 youth and high school wrestlers from throughout Washington State. Congratulations to all four NWWC wrestlers.

2017 USAW Folkstyle National Championships
Three NWWC brothers traveled to Cedar Falls, IA over the weekend of April 1st to compete for Team Washington at the 2017 USAW Folkstyle National Championships. Thor Michaelson of Bremerton, age 13, earned a 3rd place finish in the Schoolboy 105 lb division. With the top-3 finish, Michaelson secured All-American status and a spot on the US Schoolboy National Team. Two NWWC wrestlers traveled down to Centralia, WA on Saturday, March 25th to compete for Team Washington at the 2017 Northwest Cadet/Junior Freestyle Regional Championships.  Together, Abraham Parish of Bremerton, age 15, and Haley Michaelson of Bremerton, age 15, garnered a record of 4-3 for the day. Sunday Tournament Results: March 5, 2017
Three NWWC wrestlers traveled a combined 750 miles on Sunday, March 5th to compete at five different tournaments. Paris Kelleher of Silverdale, age 10, traveled to Richland, WA and earned five medals at the Women's Columbia Cup including a championship in the Girls Freestyle Novice 102 lb division. Mitchell Neiner of Port Orchard, age 12, and Jaxon Johnson of Poulsbo, age 9, both traveled to Stanwood, WA and both returned home with a pair of gold medals. Congratulations to all three NWWC wrestlers:

2017 Buckley Brawl Freestyle & Greco Tournaments
Twenty NWWC wrestlers traveled to White River High School on Saturday, March 4th to compete at the first Freestyle and Greco-Roman wrestling tournaments of 2017. All twenty wrestlers competed at the Buckley Brawl Freestyle Tournament earning sixteen medals and the Bantam Division team title. 2017 Chuck Bullard Mem'l WSWA Folkstyle State Championships
Forty-nine athletes representing the mighty NWWC traveled to the Tacoma Dome on Sunday, February 19th to compete among Washington's top folkstyle wrestlers at the 2017 Chuck Bullard Mem'l WSWA Folkstyle State Championships. Thirty NWWC wrestlers placed in the top-8 and medaled while four individuals returned home as State Champions; congratulations Samuel Moran of Gig Harbor, age 5, Dylan Sternod of Port Orchard, age 7, Xavier Eaglin of Port Orchard, age 14 and Josh Bayne of Hansville, 17.

The annual tournament drew nearly 1600 wrestlers from ninety-one wrestling clubs throughout the state. NWWC finished 5th. Congratulations to all forty-nine NWWC wrestlers:

Skagit Valley Showdown
The New England Patriots and the Atlanta Falcons were warming up for Super Bowl 51 while seventeen NWWC wrestlers threw down at the Skagit Valley Showdown in Burlington, WA on Sunday, February 5, 2017. Ultimately, the Patriots won their 5th Super Bowl title and NWWC won its 4th Team Title of the folkstyle season with seventeen medalists and eleven individual champions. 2017 Oregon Wrestling Classic
Thirteen NWWC wrestlers and their families braved the icy roads and sub-zero temperatures of Central Oregon over the weekend of January 14th to compete at the 2017 Oregon Wrestling Classic. Six NWWC wrestlers returned home with top-4 finishes including Brendan David of Port Orchard, age 7, who earned a first-place finish in the Bantam 75 lbs division. 2017 NWWC Holiday Push-up Champions

2016 Northwest Ultimate Wrestler
Sixty-five NWWC wrestlers welcomed over three hundred other athletes to the 6th annual Northwest Ultimate Wrestler tournament at the Kitsap Pavilion on Sunday, Dec 11th. Thirty-three NWWC wrestlers placed in the top four and twelve individuals won their division to lead NWWC to its third tournament team title of the year. The 2016 Northwest Ultimate Wrestler drew over thirty wrestling clubs from Alaska, Oregon, Idaho and Washington State. Congratulations to all sixty-five NWWC wrestlers.

2016 RMN Grand Canyon Nationals
NWWC's Masen Ellison of Port Orchard, age 7, traveled to Scottsdale, AZ over Thanksgiving weekend to compete at the 2016 RMN Grand Canyon Nationals. Mr. Ellison earned a fifth-place finish in the 7-9 Rookie division and a sixth-place finish in the 10U division. Congratulation to Masen Ellison.

2016 Tough Guy Tournament
Sixteen NWWC wrestlers traveled to White River High School in Buckley, WA on the morning after Thanksgiving to weigh-in and compete at the 2016 Tough Guy Tournament. Thirteen NWWC wrestlers returned home with top-6 finishes including seven individual championships - an NWWC record for the Tough Guy. Thor Michaelson of Bremerton, age 12, earned the Outstanding Wrestler award after pinning seven opponents, each in the first period. As a team, NWWC earned its second tournament championship of the 2016 folkstyle season. The Tough Guy tournament, a PCJWL varsity-level competition, drew over 450 young athletes and 40 teams from Pierce County and the surrounding areas. Congratulations to the following NWWC wrestlers:

2016 TOA Northwest Bigfoot Battle
Twenty-five NWWC wrestlers traveled to Spokane, WA over the weekend of November 19th to compete at the 2016 TOA Northwest Bigfoot Battle. Fifteen NWWC wrestlers placed in the top-6 including individual champions Devin Vally of Port Orchard, age 5, Samuel Moran of University Place, age 5, Mason Ellison of Port Orchard, age 7, Brendan David of Port Orchard, age 7, Lars Michaelson of Bremerton, age 11, and Hannah Johnson of Poulsbo, age 13. The Bigfoot Battle, a regional-level tournament and national-ranking qualifier, drew over 900 top youth wrestlers from 137 teams throughout nine western states. As a team, NWWC placed 3rd.

2016 Jr MidCal Championships and Final Four Duals
Eight NWWC teammates traveled to Gilroy, CA over the weekend of November 11 to compete for Team Washington at the 2016 Junior MidCal Championships and Final Four Middle School Duals. Mitchell Neiner of Port Orchard, age 12, and Lars Michaelson of Bremerton, age 11, both earned a first place finish at the Jr MidCals and helped to lead Team Washington to a second-place team finish. The 2016 Junior MidCal Championships and Final Four Middle School Duals featured over 200 wrestlers and eight middle-school all-star teams from WA, CA, NV and AZ. Congratulations to all eight NWWC wrestlers.

2016 Freakshow
Five NWWC preseason wrestlers traveled to the Westgate Resort & Casino in Las Vegas, NV over the weekend of October 21, 2016 to compete at the 2016 Freakshow wrestling tournament. As a team, NWWC recorded a 17-6 win-loss record and placed three wrestlers in the top-6 including Haley Michaelson of Bremerton, age 15, and Thor Michaelson of Bremerton, age 12, who both finished first-place in their division and returned home with a gold medal and a Freakshow Champion singlet. The sold-out tournament drew nearly 3000 youth and high school wrestlers from throughout the United States. Congratulations to all five NWWC wrestlers.

2016 Thunder Dome Throw Down
Twenty-three NWWC wrestlers traveled to Highline Community College in Des Moines, WA on October 15, 2016 to compete at the 7th annual Thunder Dome Thrown Down wrestling tournament. Seventeen NWWC wrestlers earned top-3 finishes and returned home with medals including William Moran, Grady White, Mitchell Neiner, Thor Michaelson, Ashton Schessler and Josh Bayne who each won gold in their division. The Thunder Dome Throw Down drew over 150 youth and high school wrestlers from Washington, Oregon and British Columbia. Congratulations to all twenty-three NWWC wrestlers.

Four NWWC wrestlers traveled to Clovis West High School in Clovis, CA over the weekend of October 8th to compete among California's top preseason high school and youth wrestlers at the 2016 California World Challenge. All four wrestlers earned a top-6 finish and returned home with a medal. The California World Challenge drew over 800 wrestlers and 20 college wrestling recruiters from throughout the West Coast.
