During the 2012-2013 USAW Folkstyle, Freestyle, Greco Roman & High School wrestling seasons, 198 NWWC wrestlers ages four through eighteen amassed 71 USAW State Championship medals, 8 USAW National Championship medals, 3 individual Regional Titles, 12 individual State Titles and a USAW Freestyle National Title. As a team, NWWC won its fourth consecutive State Championship in the Folkstyle Bantam division (6-8 year olds) and placed 9th overall at the WSWA Folkstyle State Championships. NWWC placed 5th at the WSWA Freestyle State Championships and 16th at the WSWA Greco-Roman State Championships.

2013 USAW ASICS/Vaughan Cadet & Junior Nationals
NWWC high school wrestlers Brandon Forster Jr. (South Kitsap), Brian Burchett (Klahowya), Vake Velarde (North Kitsap), and Bobby Reece (Kingston) traveled to Fargo, ND to compete for Team Washington at the 2013 USAW ASICS/Vaughan Cadet & Junior National Championships over the week of July 14th. Jake Velarde earned a 2nd place finish in the 138 lb Junior Greco Roman division and returned home with All-American honors. The USAW ASICS/Vaughan Cadet & Junior National Championships is a precursor tournament to the World and Olympic team trials, a preeminent scouting venue for college wrestling coaches and host to over 3,000 of America's top high school wrestlers from all 50 states.

2013 ASICS/USAW Kids Freestyle & Greco National Championships
NWWC ALL-AMERICANS: Preston Smith, age 7, won a Freestyle National Title at the 2013 ASICS/USAW Kids Freestyle & Greco National Championships in Orem, UT over the week of June 24th and three other NWWC youth wrestlers returned home with All-American honors. Smith defeated four wrestlers including the Idaho and Arizona Freestyle State Champion to earn the Freestyle Title in the Bantam 50 lb division. Smith also placed 5th in the Greco Bantam 50 lb division. Savannah Sinclair, age 7, defeated the California and Florida State Champion on her way to a 4th place finish in both the Greco & Freestyle Bantam 45 lb divisions. Lars Michaelson, age 7, defeated the Idaho and Navada State Champion to earn a 3rd place finish in the Greco Bantam 55 lb division and a 4th place finish in the Freestyle Bantam 55 lb division. Thor Michaelson, age 9, bested three opponents including the Minnesota State Champion to place 6th in the Greco Intermediate 65 lb division.

2013 USAW West Kids Regional Championships
Twelve NWWC wrestlers traveled to Pocatello, ID over the week of June 17th to compete for Team Washington at the 2013 USAW West Kids Regional Championships. The annual tournament pits the top youth wrestlers from WA, OR, ID, CA, MT, WY, UT, NV, AZ, AK and HI for a seat at the 2013 ASICS/USAW Kids Freestyle & Greco Roman National Championships in Orem, UT on June 24th.
Five NWWC wrestlers brought home nine medals for Team Washington including a gold medal - Preston Smith of Silverdale, age 7, earned a 1st place finish in the Folkstyle Bantam 50 lb division. Smith also earned a 3rd place finish in the Freestyle Bantam 50 lb division and a 6th place finish in the Greco Bantam 50 lb division. Savannah Sinclair of Bremerton, age 7, earned a 6th place finish in the Freestyle Bantam 45 lb division. Lars Michaelson of Bremerton, age 7, earned a 2nd place finish in the Freestyle Bantam 55 lb division and a 4th place finish in the Folkstyle Bantam 55 lb division. Quinn Lawrence of Poulsbo, age 8, earned a 5th place finish in the Greco Intermediate 50 lb division and a 6th place finish in the Folkstyle Intermediate 50 lb division. Thor Michaelson of Bremerton, age 9, earned a 5th place finish in the Greco Intermediate 65 lb division.

2013 WSWA Greco-Roman State Championships
Eight NWWC wrestlers spent Sunday, April 28th at the Tacoma Dome competing at the 2013 WSWA Greco-Roman State Championships. Thor Michaelson earned a 1st Place finish and was one of four NWWC wrestlers to make the finals. All eight NWWC greco wrestlers earned All-State honors by placing in the top-8 and seven NWWC wrestlers qualified to compete for Team Washington at the 2013 USAW Kids/Cadet Western Regional Greco Championships in Pocatello, ID over the week of June 16th.

2013 WSWA Freestyle State Championships
Forty-two NWWC wrestlers made the short trip to the Tacoma Dome on April 27th, 2013 to compete among Washington's top freestyle wrestlers at the 2013 WSWA Freestyle State Championships. The annual state tournament drew over 1100 wrestlers from 105 teams throughout the state.
Jake Velarde, Heaven Kemp, Thor Michaelson and Lars Michaelson each won individual State Titles (NWWC had eleven finalists). Lars won his third Kids Freestyle State Title, placing him among the 'Legends of The WSWA.' A total of twenty-nine NWWC wrestlers earned top-8 finishes and nineteen of those wrestlers qualified to compete for Team Washington at the 2013 USAW Kids/Cadet Western Regional Freestyle Championships in Pocatello, ID over the week of June 16th. NWWC earned its fourth consecutive Top-5 Team finish.

All the Reasons That I Like Wrestling

I like wrestling for many reasons. First, I like wrestling because I have a lot of friends like Thor and Lars, the coach's sons. At my wrestling practices I practice cool moves like the Russian throw and the Zeek roll. Wrestling practices are really hard they are two hours long. It sounds long but the time go's by fast!
The second reason I like wrestling is because of all the big tournaments and medals they have. The thing I like most is the wrestling tournaments they are usually eight hours long but like the practices the time goes by fast, once there was a tournament that took twelve hours to just get there!
Finally, wrestling matches are the hardest because theres lots of people that have a lot of experience.I have been wrestling since I was fore years old I was pretty good back then thats when I won first place all the time.
Truly, wrestling is one of the best and hardest sports in the world and I love it.

2013 USAW Northwest Cadet & Junior Regional Championships
Four of NWWC's upper classmen traveled down to Battleground, WA to compete at the 2013 Northwest Cadet & Junior Regional Championships on March 30th & 31st with over 500 other wrestlers representing Canada and nine different states (WA, OR, CA, ID, MT, TX, MO, HI, NV). Jake Velarde & Brandon Forster each won individual championships in Greco Roman. Brian Burchett also earned a top-three place finish over the weekend and qualified to compete at the 2013 ASICS/Vaughan Cadet & Junior National Championships in Fargo, ND over the week of July 17th.

2013 WSWA/Whirlwind Folkstyle State Championships
Fifty-seven NWWC wrestlers finished the 2012-2013 Folkstyle wrestling season with a trip to the Tacoma Dome on February 17th, 2013 to compete among Washington's top youth wrestlers at the 2013 WSWA/Whirlwind Folkstyle State Championships. The annual state tournament drew nearly 1700 wrestlers from 97 teams throughout the state and lasted over nineteen grueling hours making it the single largest wrestling tournament in Washington State history. NWWC wrestlers Thor Michaelson and Alex Sinclair wrestled the last match of the tournament at 2:54 AM.
Brandon Forster, Heaven Kemp, Lars Michaelson, Preston Smith and Savannah Sinclair each won individual state titles while NWWC earned its fourth consecutive team title in the Bantam division (6-8 yr olds). A total of twenty-five NWWC wrestlers placed in the top-8 and returned home with medals.

WIAA Mat Classic XXV
Eleven NWWC wrestlers earned the right to compete for their respective high schools at Mat Classic XXV over the weekend of February 16th, 2013. The annual Washington State High School Wrestling Championships featured over 1300 wrestlers competing on 24 mats over two days at the Tacoma Dome.
Jake Velarde became the tenth wrestler in Washington State history to win his fourth high school State Title. Bobby Reece won his third high school State Title and Adam Burchett beat the defending State Champion, Glen Robertson, to win his first high school State Title. In total, nine of the eleven NWWC wrestlers earned All-State honors, placing in the top eight.

2013 OREGON CLASSIC
Eight NWWC wrestlers travelled to Redmond, OR over the weekend of Jan 19th to compete at the 2013 Oregon Classic. Lars Michaelson defeated the defending Idaho State Champion to earn a 1st-place finish in the Bantam 50-lb division. Three other NWWC wrestlers earned top-four finishes and returned home with medals. The 2013 Oregon Classic drew 836 youth wrestlers from 167 teams throughout the Pacific Northwest.

2013 Bad Draw Winter Showdown/Oregon Classic Qualifier
Thirty-Five NWWC wrestlers travelled to Glacier Peak High School, Snohomish, WA on January 12th to compete at the Bad Draw Winter Showdown. Fifteen NWWC wrestlers (Bantam-Cadet) earned top-3 place finishes and qualified to compete at the 2012 Oregon Classic over the weekend of January 19th. The Bad Draw Winter Showdown drew four-hundred wrestlers from accross Washington and lower British Columbia. Congratulations to all thirty-five NWWC athletes who competed.

2013 Peninsula/Portland Police Z-Man Tournament
Eleven NWWC wrestlers traveled to Hilsboro, OR on Sunday, Jan 6th, to compete at the 2013 Peninsula/Portland Police Z-Man wrestling tournament. Lars Michaelson earned an individual championship and four other NWWC wrestlers earned top-3 place finishes. The Z-Man tournament drew over 600 youth wrestlers from 87 teams throughout Oregon and Washington.

Twenty-one NWWC wrestlers traveled to Evergreen State College in Olympia, WA on Friday, November 23rd to compete at the 2012 Tough Guy Tournament - five NWWC wrestlers earned top-six finishes and returned home with medals. The 2012 Tough Guy Tournament drew nearly 500 experienced youth wrestlers from 57 teams throughout Northwest Washington.

2012 TOA Northwest Bigfoot Battle
Five NWWC wrestlers traveled to Spokane, WA over the weekend of November 16th, to compete at the 2012 TOA Northwest Bigfoot Battle. Three NWWC wrestlers earned trophies by placing in the top-8. The Bigfoot Battle, a regional-level tournament, drew over 700 of the top youth wrestlers from eleven western states.
