The 2010-2011 Season in Review
During the 2010-2011 Youth Folkstyle, Freestyle, Greco Roman & High School wrestling seasons, NWWC wrestlers (ages four through eighteen) amassed 44 State Championship Medals (1st through 8th place), 11 Individual State Titles (1st place), 6 USAW All-American Honors (1st through 8th place at Nationals) and over $25,000 in wrestling scholarships for our graduating seniors. As a team, NWWC placed 1st at the Washington Kids Freestyle State Championships (6-8 year old division) and 6th at the Washington Cadet/Junior State Championships (high school division). Results:
2011 USAW ASICS/Vaughan Cadet & Junior Nationals
NWWC high school wrestlers Brian Burchett (Klahowya), Adam Burchett (Klahowya), Jake Velarde (North Kitsap), Lauren Richardson (Bremerton) and Jessie Vitartas (Klahowya) traveled to Fargo, ND to compete at the 2011 USAW ASICS/Vaughan Cadet & Junior National Championships over the week of July 17th and returned with five top-8 finishes. Adam Burchett placed 3rd in the 98 lb Junior Greco-Roman division and 8th in the 105 lb Junior Freestyle division, defeating seven wrestlers in the process. Jake Velarde bested fourteen opponents through the week, including defending Greco-Roman National Champion Val Rauser (MN), to earn a 2nd-place finish in the 130 lb Junior Greco-Roman division. Lauren Richardson defeated six opponents to finish 3rd in the Junior Women Freestyle 105 lb division and Jessie Vitartas finished 5th in the Junior Women Freestyle 198 lb division.



The USAW ASICS/Vaughan Cadet & Junior National Championships is a precursor tournament to the World and Olympic team trials, a preeminent scouting venue for college wrestling coaches and host to over 2,000 of America's top high school wrestlers from all 50 states.

2011 USAW West Kids/Cadet Regional Championships
NWWC sent eight local youth wrestlers to Pocatello, ID over the week of June 19th to compete for Team Washington at the 2011 USAW West Kids/Cadet Regional Championships. The annual tournament pits the top youth wrestlers from WA, OR, ID, CA, MT, WY, UT, NV, AZ, AK and HI for a seat at the 2011 ASICS Kids Freestyle & Greco Roman National Championships in Farmington, UT on June 27th.

Three NWWC wrestlers brought home four medals for Team Washington. Alex Sinclair of Bremerton, age 8, earned a 4th place finish in the Freestyle Bantam 50 lb division, defeating four opponents including the Idaho State Champion, Nevada State Champion and the Utah State Champion. Thor Michaelson of Bremerton, age 7, earned a 5th place finish in the Freestyle Bantam 55 lb division, defeating five opponents - all by pin - including the Idaho State Champion and the Utah State Champion. Brian Burchett of Seabeck, age 15, earned two 4th place finishes (Freestyle and Greco Roman) in the Cadet 105 lb division. Burchett defeated six opponents including the Montana Greco Roman & Freestyle State Champion.

2011 WSWA Cadet/Junior Freestyle State Championships
Northwest Washington Wrestling Club (NWWC) sent eleven Kitsap County high school wrestlers to Mill Creek, WA on Saturday, May 14th to compete at the 2011 WSWA Cadet & Junior Freestyle State Championships. Jake Velarde and Jesse Vitartas each won individual titles to lead NWWC to a sixth place team finish in the 72-team tournament. Nine NWWC wrestlers finished the day placing in the top-8 (All-State honors) and qualified to wrestle for Team Washington at the USAW Cadet & Junior National Championships in Fargo, ND, July 15-23, 2011.

2011 WSWA Kids Freestyle State Championships
Congratulations to first-time State Champions Lars Michaelson, Savanah Sinclair and Heaven Kemp-Sinclair, and the ten other Kitsap County youth wrestlers who lead NWWC to a first place team finish in the Bantam Division (6-8yrs old), a third place team finish in the PeeWee Division (4-6yrs old) and a fifth place overall team finish at the 2011 WSWA Kids Freestyle State Championships in Spokane, WA over the weekend of May 7th. A total of fifteen NWWC wrestlers made the trip to Spokane to compete in the 65-team tournament - thirteen NWWC wrestlers earned top-8 finishes (All-State honors) and the right to compete for Team Washington at the 2011 USAW Kids/Cadet Western Regional Championships in Pocatello, ID over the week of June 20th.

2011 WSWA Greco-Roman State Championships
All four NWWC wrestlers who traveled to Montesano, WA on Saturday, April 30th to compete at the 2011 WSWA Greco-Roman State Championships earned top-eight finishes and qualified to wrestle for Team Washington at the Greco Roman Kids/Cadet Western Regional Tournament in Pocatello, ID on June 22nd. Brian Burchett earned first place by defeating Bryson Beard 1-0,7-0 in the Cadet 105 lb finals. Brian Burchett also finished the tournament without being scored on.

2011 USAW Northwest Cadet & Junior Regional Championships
Six NWWC high school wrestlers traveled down to Battleground, WA to compete at the USAW Northwest Cadet & Junior Regional Championships March 26th & 27th with nearly 500 other wrestlers representing eight different states (WA, OR, CA, ID, UT, AZ, NV, MT) and two countries (U.S., Canada). Adam Burchett dominated his division to win both the Freestyle and Greco Roman championship. Adam Burchett, Brian Burchett, Jake Velarde and Bobby Reece were all top three place winners and qualified for the Cadet & Junior National Championships in Fargo, ND, July 15th, 2011.

WIAA Mat Classic XXIII
Eleven NWWC wrestlers earned the right to compete for their respective high schools at Mat Classic XXIII, the annual State Championship Wrestling Tournament held at the Tacoma Dome, over the weekend of Feb 18th, 2011. Nine of the Eleven NWWC wrestlers earned All-State honors, placing in the top six. Seven of those nine NWWC wrestlers made it to the finals, and Five of those seven NWWC wrestlers won a State Championship.

2011 WSWA Folkstyle State Championships
Northwest Washington Wrestling Club (NWWC) finished the 2010-2011 Folkstyle wrestling season in Spokane, WA over the weekend of Jan 29th, taking nineteen Kitsap County youth wrestlers ages 5 – 13yrs old to compete at the 2011 WSWA Folkstyle State Championships. Nine NWWC wrestlers placed in the top-8 and brought home medals. NWWC earned a 2nd place team finish in the Bantam division. The State tournament drew 70 teams and nearly 1000 wrestlers.
