The 2015-2016 Season in Review
During the 2015-2016 USAW Folkstyle, Freestyle, Greco-Roman & High School wrestling seasons, 224 NWWC wrestlers ages four through eighteen amassed 86 WSWA State Championship medals, 7 USAW National Championship medals, 10 individual Regional Titles, 18 individual State Titles and 3 USAW National Titles. Nine NWWC wrestlers finished the year nationally ranked and two NWWC wrestlers finished the year ranked #1 in their weight division. As a team, NWWC placed 3rd at the WSWA Freestyle State Championships, 4th at the Greco-Roman State Championships and 5th at the WSWA Folkstyle State Championships.

USA Wrestling National Rankings
USA Wrestling, the national governing body for the sport of wrestling, just released the year-end national rankings and nine NWWC wrestlers made the exclusive list including Mitchell Neiner of Port Orchard, age 11, and Thor Michaelson of Bremerton, age 12, who both finished the year ranked #1 in their weight class. The USAW Future Olympian Rankings are based off weighted points earned at qualifying regional and national tournaments. Congratulations to the following nationally-ranked NWWC wrestlers:

2016 Battle On The Midway
Three NWWC families and seven wrestlers spent the weekend of August 13th on the San Diego waterfront competing outdoors at the 2016 Battle On The Midway wrestling tournament. Five NWWC wrestlers earned top-6 finishes and the privilege to battle their final opponent on the flight deck of the USS Midway aircraft carrier. The Battle On The Midway drew almost 900 athletes from twenty-one states and three countries. Congratulations to all seven NWWC wrestlers.

2016 ASICS/USAW Freestyle & Greco National Championships

Four NWWC wrestlers traveled to Wisconsin Dells, WI on July 5th to compete among the nation's top freestyle and greco-roman youth wrestlers at the 2016 ASICS/USAW Kids Freestyle & Greco-Roman National Championships. All four NWWC wrestlers returned home with USAW All-American honors after winning six medals and two national titles. Mitchell Neiner of Port Orchard, age 11, earned a first-place finish in the Freestyle Novice 65 lb division and finished 3rd in the Greco-Roman tournament. Thor Michaelson of Bremerton, age 12, earned a first-place finish in the Greco-Roman Novice 90 lb division and finished 2nd in the Freestyle tournament. With the top-3 finishes, Michaelson and Neiner also won spots on the Freestyle and Greco-Roman U.S. Kids National Teams. 

Other NWWC 2016 USAW All-Americans include Diego Clemen of Bremerton, age 12, who finished 7th in the Freestyle Novice 100 lb division and Lars Michaelson of Bremerton, age 11, who finished 7th in the Greco-Roman 70 lb division.

The 2016 ASICS/USAW Kids Freestyle & Greco-Roman National Championships drew 1,300 entries from 40 states. Congratulations to NWWC's 2016 Kids Freestyle & Greco-Roman National Team:

2016 AAU Western Grand Nationals
NWWC's Quinn Lawrence of Poulsbo, age 11, traveled to Billings, MT over the weekend of June 30th to compete at the 2016 AAU Western Grand Nationals, the oldest wrestling tournament in the nation. Over the three-day event, Mr. Lawrence defeated eight opponents while earning a second-place finish in the Folkstyle Tournament and a first-place finish in the Greco-Roman Tournament. 2016 USAW West Kids/Cadet Regional Championships
Nine NWWC families and fifteen wrestlers traveled to Pocatello, ID over the week of June 19th to compete for Team Washington at the 2016 USAW West Kids/Cadet Regional Championships. The annual tournament pits the top youth wrestlers from twelve western states for a seat at the 2016 ASICS/USAW Kids Freestyle & Greco Roman National Championships in The Dells, WI on July 6th.

Over the three-day, three-style event, NWWC compiled 162 matches, twenty-six medals and ten individual championships. Savannah Sinclair of Bremerton, age 10, and Thor Michaelson of Bremerton, age 12, both finished 1st-place in the folkstyle, freestyle and greco-roman divisions and in doing so earned the prestigious Triple Crown and Outstanding Wrestler Awards. Congratulations to all fifteen NWWC Regional wrestlers:

2016 WSWA Freestyle & Greco-Roman State Championships
Forty-nine athletes representing the Kitsap Peninsula and the mighty NWWC traveled to the NW Sports Hub in Centralia, WA on May 7th and 8th to compete among Washington's top freestyle and greco-roman wrestlers at the 2016 WSWA Freestyle and Greco-Roman State Championships. The two tournaments drew over 1300 entries from 89 wrestling clubs throughout the state. 

Over the weekend, eight NWWC wrestlers captured individual state titles including Mitchell Neiner of Port Orchard, age 11, and Thor Michaelson of Bremerton, Age 12, who both earned their second and third state title of 2016 and the prestigious Triple Crown Award (folkstyle, freestyle and greco-roman state titles). As a team, NWWC finished third-place in freestyle -- the seventh consecutive top-5 finish at the Freestyle State Championships -- and fourth-place in greco-roman.

In total, forty NWWC wrestlers placed in the top-8 and returned home with medals. Congratulations to NWWC's 2016 Freestyle and Greco-Roman State Championship Team:

Buckley Brawl FS & GR Tournaments
Twenty NWWC wrestlers traveled to White River High School on Saturday, April 30th to compete at the Buckley Brawl Freestyle & Greco-Roman tournaments. Slamfest 4 FS & GR Tournaments
Twenty-seven NWWC wrestlers traveled to the newly-built Auburn High School on Saturday, April 23rd to compete at the Slamfest 4 Freestyle & Greco-Roman tournaments. Twenty-four NWWC wrestlers returned home with top-3 medals and Thor Michaelson of Bremerton, age 12, came back with the Slam Champion Salami, an award given to the wrestler with the most high-amplitude throws. As a team, NWWC finished first-place in both tournaments. Congratulations to all twenty-seven NWWC wrestlers.

2016 Elma Freestyle & Greco Tournaments
A handful of eager NWWC wrestlers traveled to Elma High School on Saturday, Feb 27th to compete at the year's first freestyle and greco wrestling tournaments (before the first day of practice). Nine NWWC wrestlers made the trip, six NWWC wrestlers returned home with top-3 medals and Koichi Castro of Port Orchard, age 7, and Thor Michaelson of Bremerton, age 12, won their divisions. 2016 Chuck Bullard Memorial WSWA Folkstyle State Championships
Forty-four Olympic Peninsula athletes representing the mighty NWWC finished the 2015-2016 Winter Wrestling Session with a trip to the Tacoma Dome on February 21st to compete among Washington's top folkstyle wrestlers at the 2016 Chuck Bullard Memorial WSWA Folkstyle State Championships. Twenty-eight NWWC wrestlers finished the day with top-8 honors and five NWWC wrestlers returned home with individual state titles including Mitchell Neiner of Port Orchard, age 11, Thor Michaelson of Bremerton, age 12, Haley Michaelson of Bremerton, age 14, Haden Smith of Bremerton, age 17, and Dawson Johnson of Kingston, 17.

The annual tournament drew nearly 1500 wrestlers from ninety-eight wrestling clubs throughout the state; NWWC finished 5th. Congratulations to all forty-four NWWC wrestlers:

2016 Oregon Wrestling Classic
Thirteen NWWC wrestlers traveled to Redmond, OR over the weekend of Jan 16th to compete at the 2016 Oregon Wrestling Classic. Six NWWC wrestlers returned home with top-4 finishes including Jace Brady of Kingston, age 9, who earned a first-place finish in the Intermediate 65 lbs division. The 2016 Oregon Wrestling Classic drew over 1100 elite youth wrestlers from 140 clubs throughout the Pacific Northwest.

2016 Bad Draw Winter Showdown/Oregon Classic Qualifier
Seventeen NWWC wrestlers traveled to Snohomish, WA on Sunday, January 10th to compete at the 2016 Bad Draw Winter Showdown/Oregon Classic Qualifier. Fifteen NWWC wrestlers earned top-4 finishes and fourteen wrestlers qualified to compete at the 2016 Oregon Wrestling Classic. Jace Brady, Stone Hartford, Mitchell Neiner, Thor Michaelson and Diego Clemen each earned individual championships and lead NWWC to a second-place overall team finish. The Bad Draw Winter Showdown drew over four-hundred wrestlers from fifty different clubs across Washington, Oregon and British Columbia. 2015 Northwest Ultimate Wrestler
Sixty-six NWWC wrestlers capped the Fall Folkstyle session with a gritty performance at the 2015 Northwest Ultimate Wrestler tournament at the Kitsap Pavilion on Sunday, Dec 13th. 2015 Steelclaw Folkstyle Challenge
Fifteen NWWC wrestlers traveled to Sedro-Woolley High School on Sunday, December 6th, 2015 to compete at the 10th annual Steelclaw Folkstyle Challenge. 2015 Tough Guy Tournament
Nineteen NWWC wrestlers traveled to White River High School in Buckley, WA on the morning after Thanksgiving to weigh-in and compete at the 2015 Tough Guy Tournament. Nine NWWC wrestlers returned home with top-3 place finishes including Mitchell Neiner of Port Orchard, age 11, who earned his second consecutive Tough Guy championship and lead NWWC to a 2nd-place overall team finish. The Tough Guy Tournament, a varsity-level tournament, drew over 400 young athletes and 40 teams from Pierce County and the surrounding areas. Congratulations to the following NWWC wrestlers:

2015 TOA Northwest Bigfoot Battle
Thirteen NWWC wrestlers traveled to Spokane, WA over the weekend of November 20th to compete at the 2015 TOA Northwest Bigfoot Battle. Eight NWWC wrestlers returned home with individual trophies including Quinn Lawrence, Cole Tate, Mitchell Neiner, Lars Michaelson and Thor Michaelson who also delivered NWWC it's first TOA Tournament Team Trophy (Novice Division Champions). Mitchell Neiner of Port Orchard, age 11, and Thor Michaelson of Bremerton, age 11, led the performance with individual championships. The Bigfoot Battle, a regional-level tournament and national-ranking qualifier, drew over 900 top youth wrestlers from 136 teams throughout eleven western states.

2015 Freak Show
Three NWWC preseason wrestlers traveled to the Westgate Resort & Casino in Las Vegas, NV over the weekend of October 24, 2015 to compete at the 2015 Southwest Kickoff Classic ("The Freak Show of Amateur Wrestling"). Lars Michaelson of Bremerton, age 10, and Thor Michaelson of Bremerton, age 11, both returned home with top-3 finishes. The Freak Show drew over 2400 youth and high school wrestlers from throughout the Western United States. Congratulations to all three NWWC wrestlers.

2015 Thunderdome Throwdown
Sixteen NWWC preseason wrestlers traveled to Highline Community College in Des Moines, WA on October 17, 2015 to compete at the 6th annual Thunderdome Throwndown wrestling tournament. Eight NWWC wrestlers earned top-3 finishes and returned home with medals including Stone Hartford, Mitchell Neiner and Thor Michaelson who each won gold. The Thunderdome Throwdown drew nearly 300 youth and high school wrestlers from Washington, Oregon, Idaho and British Columbia. Congratulations to all sixteen NWWC wrestlers.
