174 NWWC athletes traveled to three countries and 16 states over the 2022-2023 Freestyle, Folkstyle, Greco-Roman and Beach wrestling seasons to compete in 65 wrestling events. Throughout the course of competition, NWWC earned 90 WSWA state championship medals, 26 individual state titles, 13 USAW All-American honors, five national championships and two world medals. As a team, NWWC placed third at the WSWA Folkstyle State Championships, second at the WSWA Freestyle State Championships and third at the WSWA Greco-Roman State Championships. Out of 5,013 sanctioned USAW clubs, NWWC ranked 20th in the nation. Congratulations to all the NWWC wrestlers, family and friends on an excellent year in wrestling.

FARGO 2023 (ND)
Six NWWC high school athletes traveled to Fargo, ND over the week of July 15th to compete for Team Washington at the 2023 USAW 16U & Junior Freestyle & Greco-Roman National Championships. Over the seven days of brutal competition, NWWC wrestled forty-five matches defeating twenty-four athletes from seventeen states (CA, CO, FL, IL, MD, MI, MO, NJ, NY, NC, OK, OR, PA, SC, TN, UT, WI), and Thor Michaelson of Bremerton, age 19, finished the event with two Fargo All-American honors. The USAW 16U & Junior Freestyle & Greco-Roman National Championships is recognized as the world's largest wrestling competition and Fargo 2023 set an all-time record with 7,134 athletes from 48 states. Congratulations to Team Washington and all six NWWC wrestlers.

2023 Ocean Shores Beach Wrestling Championships (WA)
Ten NWWC beach brawlers traveled to Ocean Shores, WA on Saturday, July 8th to compete at the 2023 Ocean Shores Beach Wrestling Championships. After the sand settled and the sweat dried, NWWC stood with 33 matches, 16 wins and three individual championships. Congratulations to all ten NWWC brawlers.

2023 USAW Kids Nationals (UT) 👑 👑 👑
Eight NWWC wrestlers traveled to Farmington, UT over the week of June 25th to compete among the nation's top Freestyle & Greco-Roman youth wrestlers at the 2023 USAW Kids Freestyle and Greco-Roman National Championships. Over the two days of competition, the elite eight wrestled sixty-one matches and finished with thirty-two wins, ten All-American honors, two individual national titles and Paxton Beckett, of Gig Harbor, age 9, captured NWWC's first-ever National Triple Crown Award. The 2023 USAW Kids Freestyle and Greco-Roman National Championships drew over 1100 entries from 42 states. Congratulations to all eight NWWC wrestlers.

2023 WSWA FS/GR State Championships (WA)
Forty-eight NWWC wrestlers traveled to the Evergreen State Fairgrounds (Monroe, WA) over the weekend of May 5th to compete at the 2023 WSWA Freestyle & Greco-Roman State Championships. Over the course of the two tournaments, NWWC racked up 264 matches en route to 162 wins, 61 medals, 18 individual state titles, five Triple Crown honors and another induction into the Legends of the WSWA Freestyle Hall of Fame. As a team, NWWC finished second-place in the Freestyle tournament and third-place in the Greco-Roman tournament. Overall, the annual State Championships drew over 1700 entries from 101 wrestling clubs throughout the state. Congratulations to all forty-eight NWWC wrestlers.

2023 US OPEN (NV)
Four NWWC high school wrestlers traveled to Las Vegas, NV over the weekend of April 28th to compete among the nation's top U17 and U20 wrestlers at the 2023 US OPEN. Over the course of four brutal days of competition and thirty hard-fought matches, NWWC managed eighteen wins and Lars Michaelson of Bremerton, age 17, finished 5th in the U20, 77 KG, Mens Greco-Roman championships. 2023 Slamfest FS & GR Tournament (WA)
A dozen NWWC wrestlers traveled to Fife High School on Saturday, April 29th to compete at the 2023 Slamfest Freestyle & Greco wrestling tournaments. Thurston County Throwdown FS & GR Tournament (WA)
Twelve NWWC wrestlers traveled to Tumwater, WA on Saturday, April 22nd to compete at the Thurston County Throwdown Freestyle & Greco wrestling tournaments. Altogether, NWWC wrestled 45 matches and finished with 28 wins, 13 medals and five individual championships. Congratulations to all twelve NWWC wrestlers.

2023 USAW Women's National Championships (WA)
NWWC's Anaya Patacsil of Fox Island, age 9, traveled to Spokane, Washington over the weekend of April 14th to compete among the nation's top women wrestlers at the 2023 USAW Women's National Championships. Over the course of competition, Ms. Patacsil bested girls from Alaska and Illinois and finished the tournament with an undefeated record and NWWC's first USAW Women's National Title. Congratulations to National Champion Anaya Patacsil.

Takedown Express FS & GR Tournament (WA)
Twenty-one NWWC wrestlers traveled to Covington, WA on Saturday, April 15th to compete at the Takedown Express Freestyle & Greco-Roman wrestling tournaments. 2023 USAW Folkstyle National Championships (IA)
Seven NWWC wrestlers brought the thunder and the tornadoes to the USAW Folkstyle National Championships in Cedar Falls, Iowa over the weekend of March 31st, 2023. Over three days of brutal competition, NWWC racked up thirty-nine matches and finished with twenty-eight wins, five All-American honors and two individual national titles. 2023 USAW Northwest 16U/Junior Regionals (WA)
Fourteen NWWC wrestlers traveled to Centralia, WA over the weekend of March 24th to compete for Team Washington at the 2023 USAW Northwest 16U/Junior Freestyle & Greco-Roman Regional Championships. Over the course of the two tournaments, NWWC wrestled 78 matches, captured 11 medals, finished with four individual titles and qualified four high school boys for the 2023 USAW Junior Freestyle & Greco-Roman National Championships. The 2023 USAW Northwest 16U/Junior Regionals featured nearly 1200 wrestlers representing thirteen states. Congratulations to all fourteen NWWC wrestlers.

2023 Twin City 3-Style Classic (WA)
Thirty-nine NWWC wrestlers traveled to Centralia, WA over the Saint Patrick's Day weekend to compete at the 2023 Twin City 3-Style Classic. Over the three days of competition, NWWC wrestled 226 matches to earn 42 medals, 19 individual championships and both the freestyle and greco-roman team title. Weekend Wrestling Results
Twenty-two NWWC wrestlers traveled across the Tacoma Narrows and over the Cascade Mountains to compete at four tournaments over the weekend of March 11, 2023. Two NWWC brothers traveled to Tulsa, Oklahoma over the weekend of March 3rd to compete among some of the nation's top youth wrestlers at the 2023 WOW Nationals Youth Duals. Eleven NWWC wrestlers traveled to Spanaway, WA on Saturday, March 4th to compete at the 2023 Lions Den Freestyle & Greco-Roman wrestling tournaments. Over the course of the two tournaments, NWWC wrestled sixty-four matches and recorded thirty-five victories, twenty medals and seven individual championships. 2023 WSWA Folkstyle State Championships (WA)
Forty-seven NWWC wrestlers traveled to the Tacoma Dome on Sunday, February 19th to compete among Washington's top 1,815 folkstyle wrestlers at the 2023 WSWA Folkstyle State Championships. Over the course of the 12-hour tournament, NWWC racked up 201 matches, 137 wins (68%), 66 wins by fall (52%), 29 medals and 8 individual state championships. Out of the 106 wrestling clubs, NWWC finished 3rd. Congratulations to all forty-seven NWWC wrestlers.

2023 Oregon Wrestling Classic (OR)
Seventeen NWWC wrestlers traveled to Redmond, Oregon over the weekend of January 14th to compete at the 2023 Oregon Wrestling Classic. Over the course of the tournament, NWWC combined for 73 matches, 52 wins, 14 medals and six individual championships. The 2023 OWC drew over 750 elite youth wrestlers from 144 clubs throughout the Pacific Northwest. As a team, NWWC finished 2nd. Congratulations to all sixteen NWWC wrestlers.

63rd Annual Cultural Exchange Freestyle Dual - Washington vs Japan
Four NWWC high school wrestlers traveled to Edmonds-Woodway High School on Monday, January 9th to compete for Team Washington at the 63rd Annual Washington vs Japan Cultural Exchange Freestyle Dual. Mitchell Neiner of Port Orchard, age 18, was the first of the four NWWC athletes to compete. Neiner, a 2X Fargo All-American, battled Japanese National Champion Shotaro Matsumura at 55 kg. During the first period of the bout, Neiner torqued Matsumura for a 2-point front head pinch to take the lead on criteria but eventually fell to the champion by two points (2-4). Lars Michaelson of Bremerton, age 17, was the next NWWC athlete to compete for Team Washington. Michaelson, also a 2X Fargo All-American, wrestled Japan's Reon Kakegawa, World #5, at 80 kg. Michaelson defeated Kakegawa by fall while down by 4 points late in the first period. Stone Hartford of Port Orchard, age 16, was NWWC's third wrestler to compete during the evening. Hartford, the defending 120-pound 4A State Champion, drew Japan's Yuto Nishiuchi, a 2022 U20 World Champion. After a hard-fought and high-flying campaign, Hartford fell to the champion by tech-fall. Thor Michaelson of Bremerton, age 18 was NWWC's fourth and final wrestler to compete during the dual. Michaelson, a 3X Fargo All-American, wrestled Japanese National Champion Kirill Shimabukuo at 80 kg. After a brutal match of handfighting and Japanese defense, Michaelson finished the bout one-point short of a victory (1-2). Congratulations to "The Quatro," see highlight video links below.

Four NWWC wrestlers traveled to Newberg, Oregon on Sunday, January 8th to compete among 745 local youth wrestlers at the 2023 Oregon Wrestling Classic Qualifier - Metro tournament. Over the course of the big event, the fearsome foursome tallied a 16-1 win-loss record and returned to Washington with ten falls, four medals and three individual championships. 2022 NWWC Holiday Push-Up Champions
Congratulations to the twenty-four NWWC wrestlers, and one NWWC coach, who completed 3,000+ push-ups over the two-week Winter Break. Banks Mat Club Tournament (OR)
Seven NWWC wrestlers drove down to Banks, Oregon on New Year's Eve to compete among 500 local youth at the Banks Mat Club wrestling tournament. 2022 Pac Coast Wrestling Championships (WA)
Ten NWWC wrestlers traveled to Vancouver, WA on December 29th to compete for their respective high schools at the 2022 Pac Coast Wrestling Championships. Over the course of the two-day event, NWWC racked up 63 matches while capturing 51 wins, 23 wins by fall, nine medals, five final appearances, four individual championships and two Outstanding Wrester awards. Altogether, NWWC finished with 238 points, enough to finish first as a high school team. The 2022 Pac Coast Wrestling Championships drew 681 athletes from 57 high school teams throughout the Pacific Northwest. Congratulations to all ten NWWC wrestlers.

2022 Northwest Ultimate Wrestler (WA)
Fifty-two NWWC wrestlers welcomed nearly 300 athletes to Bremerton High School on Sunday, December 11th to compete at the 10th annual Northwest Ultimate Wrestler. Over the course of the day, NWWC amassed 221 matches, 128 victories, 51 medals and 15 individual championships. 2022 NUWAY Bear National Duals & Indv Championships (TN)
NWWC's Paxton Beckett of Gig Harbor, age 9, traveled to Gatlinburg, Tennessee over the weekend of December 2nd to compete among the nation's top 9U wrestlers at the 2022 NUWAY Bear National Duals & Individual Championships. Beckett finished the weekend with 4 falls, a 9-0 record and the 9U, 70 lb individual championship. The Bear tournament weekend drew over 400 wrestlers from 92 wrestling clubs. 2022 TOUGH GUY (WA)
Eleven NWWC wrestlers traveled to Buckley, WA on the day after Thanksgiving to compete among the varsity wrestlers of the Pierce County Junior Wrestling League at the 2022 Tough Guy tournament. Over the course of a tough tournament, NWWC wrestled forty matches and brought home nineteen victories, three medals and Waylon Hoyt of Tahuya, age 12, captured the Over 9, 103 lb championship. The 2022 Tough Guy tournament drew 34 clubs throughout the state. Congratulations to all eleven NWWC wrestlers.

NWWC's Thor Michaelson of Bremerton, Senior, traveled to Spokane, WA over the weekend of November 18th to compete among the Northwest Region's top D2, D3, NAIA and junior college wrestlers at the 2022 NCAA Spokan Open. 2022 USAW Northwest Bigfoot Battle (WA)
Fifteen NWWC wrestlers traveled to Spokane, WA over the weekend of November 18th to compete among the top youth wrestlers in the Pacific Northwest at the 2022 USAW Northwest Bigfoot Battle. Over the exhausting day of competition, NWWC racked up 57 matches, 32 victories, 11 trophies, four individual championships and Paxton Beckett of Gig Harbor won the 10U Outstanding Wrestler award. The 2022 USAW Northwest Bigfoot Battle drew over 1000 entries from 114 wrestling clubs throughout the region. Congratulations to all fifteen NWWC wrestlers.

2022 UWW BW World Championships (RO)
Two NWWC high school wrestlers traveled to Constanta, Romania over the week of August 29th to compete for Team USA at the 2022 UWW Beach Wrestling World Championships. Over the course of competition, the two brothers recorded ten matches, seven individual wins and two world medals. Lars Michaelson of Bremerton, age 17, earned bronze in the U17, 80 kg division before Thor Michaelson of Bremerton, age 18, earned silver in the U20, 80 kg division. Thor's silver-medal finish distinguished him as the first US male athlete to win a world medal in the U20 division. Congratulations to both wrestlers.
